there is no word will describe this site its wonderful place. it's another world when you go underground. you will see a beautiful decorated tombs which dated back to the Graeco-Roman period. this tomb was discovered in 1900 just by chance.

Not everyone could have a pyramid, so the catacombs were second best. An interesting site, although there is only the infrastructure remaining. Try to arrive early to avoid crowds, as there is only one entrnace/exit and the site is small and easily congested.

Catacombs? This word sounds bad. We’re talking here about a little city built in the ground, carved into the bedrock by some ancient families. Don’t make the huge mistake of avoiding visiting this wonder. It is all different from all you have ever seen, as conception, philosophy, tradition and art. The monument shows exactly what we are, different civilizations spinning around the Mediterranean over the millennia, frightened to death and more by solitude after.

We were fortunate that there were no other tourists on site and we had a guide to explain the historical and cultural features of the catacombs. It's a pity no photos are allowed....don't know why, as there is no colour on the artwork that could be damaged. Like many tombs and sites in Egypt the care and upkeep of the site has a lot of room for improvement.
