Paradise Inn Windsor Palace Hotel
Ranked #20 of 39 Hotels in Alexandria
Reviewed 21 January 2013 via mobile

If you are planning for a short vacation you must choose alexandria and if you choose alexandria then choose windsor palace.
Its very clean and near downtown so you can go anywhere in alex. In few minutes by car or taxi, breakfast is good.
However the only problem is parking the car as the hotel doesn't have a parking lot

We only stayed in Alexandria for one night and chose Windsor Palace as a matter of price point and location. The hotel is very European in style and charming. It is, however, dated and could use a few bucks worth of refurbishment. The floors are worn as well as the furniture although the vintage elevator was very cool. The staff was not helpful and could not even provide a tourist map. The rooms are large with high ceilings with great views of the Mediterranean. Make sure to request a high floor though since the Egyptian cacophony of horn honking is never too far away. I will say that the rooftop restaurant was outstanding- fresh, delicious, and quite inexpensive. We ate all of our meals there. All in all, I probably would not stay here again but would definitely eat at their restaurant.

The good:
* The hotel is in the center of Alex, which makes it very walkable.
* Cool elevators
* Decent price for location
* Clean enough
* Free stuff (fruit, pastries, slippers, and toiletries)
* Awesome restaurant view / good food (but you can always go as a non-hotel resident).

The Bad:
* Staff knew NOTHING about Alex. They didn't have tourist map, they could not recommend tourist sites. No knowledge about trains (like which train station to go). Not helpful about Taxis. Basically, I wonder if the staff even lived in Alex. Note: I did ask all questions in English.
* Small rooms, dusty and old
* "Sea-view" room is not really a sea-view room, it's like off to the side with a cheap micro view.
* Noisy, but that should expected if you live on the cornish.
* breakfast, was a bit disappointing for how much selection there was. Not bad, but have had better.

Room Tip: "Sea-view" sucks and I wonder if it's worth the upgrade in price.

We generally had a good stay at the Windsor but it didn't start off well. We called the night before and confirmed our booking and were told that there is plenty of space in the hotel so we could come check in any time we wanted. We arrived and no one knew about our booking and we were asked to wait. After an hour we asked again and were asked to wait for 10 more minutes. We waited for half an hour and still got no service. While we were waiting they brought us cookies and juice which tasted like cheap watered down lemonade. After waiting for about two hours we lost our patients and spoke in a harsh tone with them and only then were we told that they had kept us waiting all this time because the door of our room was jammed and they weren't able to remove a baby crib that the previous guests had used. We told them we don't care and would just like to get our room. Finally we were taken up.

Rooms were clean except for the very thick carpet which looked stained and the dim lighting in the room covered that fact up. Other than that the bathrooms were spotless and the beds were crisp and clean. They changed our sheets and pillows for us every day upon request.

Breakfast was also very good and had a good variety and if the weather was good outside you could sit on the terrace and enjoy an amazing view as well.

The hotels location was right on the sea front at the heart of Alexandria and we had the most wonderful views and good access to many sights of Alexandria. The library of Alexandria was a 10 minute walk away. The only problem was that the noise was constant and didn't quiet down till about 1 AM.

We had to pay extra to bring in a third bed and also extra to get a sea-view room on the top floor. It averaged to about 1000 Egyptian pounds, which was steep considering the hotel provided the basics at a good level.

All in all it was a good stay but overpriced and the initial check-in was a hassle.

Will make long story short: if you want to stay in a crappy, smelly, dirty, ugly room and have the worst service staff in the whole world, then this is the perfect place for you.

The situation is ridiculous! totally overpriced, service is AWFUL! but, c'mon I mean it: they where not even able to call me a cab, I had to go and pick one in the street!! what kind of hotel is this?

did I mention the terrible smell in the rooms?? trust me... it's terrible!

Windsor Palace Alexandria is full of old world charm. They even have those 'cage' elevators - in perfect working condition. The building, of course, is rather old but well maintained. Big rooms, large comfortable beds and a well equipped bathroom.
The staff is very helpful, especially, if you are a single foreign woman.
The breakfast buffet is fantastic! Go for the Egyptian delights instead of the muffins. There is a gorgeous terrace dining area with a view of the corniche - priceless experience!

Windsor Palace is with no doubt a remarkable place to notice on the Corniche of Alexandria. An old luxurious building that has been there for atleast a hundred years.
The hotel didn't loose the royal-luxurious touch, there is always someone there to welcome you with a smile, a drink and dessert. Staff is very friendly, very supportive and helpful.
Totally recommended for business trips or families visiting the city more than only relaxing in a hotel.
