Reviewed 25 August 2014

Just returned from a weeks holiday at the couples sousse/scheherazade hotel, we stayed from the 17th of August to the 24th. Really honestly we have nothing but positives to say about this hotel and the wonderful people who work there. I am a self confessed trip advisor geek and so was a little anxious about some of the reviews people left HOWEVER, I really think these people just like a good old moan. If you are looking for a romantic, luxurious, relaxing holiday in a beautiful hotel being treated like royalty then you'll love the scheherazade. We didnt want to leave, could very easily enjoyed another week here.

On arrival we were welcomed by the hotel staff dancing and singing - despite the fact we arrived around midnight! We were given a lovely cocktail, chocolates and a warm towel before being taken down to the restaurant for a meal, check in was swift, we changed our sterling to dinar at reception, received our wifi codes and had our bags delivered to our room. We stayed in room 103, beautiful room, spotlessly clean, fresh rose petals on our bed and towels shaped into love hearts, wine, fresh fruit, bottled water and coke left for us. Really can't understand why people have complained about the bathrooms, they are in my opinion very fitting with the rest of the room, ours was very large and the bath & shower were both spot on. Our bed gave both of us the best nights sleep we've had in a while, yes they are a little harder than back home but they can offer you memory foam mattress toppers if need be but we felt our bed was great. Our room was situated on the ground floor between two swim up rooms, it was fantastic to sit out at night and we could easily nip upto our room from the beach etc. Air con was a god send and was fab.

The food is truly amazing - how they can cook so much choice to such a high standard I do not know. Everything cooked fresh infront of you - Breakfast, lunch and dinner we really couldn't get over how much choice we had, we ate like kings everyday. We had pancakes for breakfast every morning! The desserts are outstanding, so much to choose from and beautifully presented. We can be fussy eaters but certainly did not struggle, my plates were heaped full all week. Having been to many all inclusive hotels before I must say the food here was miles above my expectations, the chefs and restaurant staff put so much care and attention into taste and presentation and everyones palates catered for. We really enjoyed the Tunisian night, be sure to try the tunisian bread stuffed with lamb and spices, they cook it right infront of you. The waiting staff are always running around doing their very best to see you have a drink, top up your glass, it is polite to tip them although not always necessary.

The beach, pool area and gardens are stunning and the gardeners really need some credit - all spotlessly clean and very well maintained. As everyone has said - if you do want one of the fancier cabana beds then you must reserve them at silly oclock - we were on the beach at 5.15am one morning for a sunrise photoshoot with the hotel photographer (highly recommended!) and there were already people down in their dressing gowns putting towels down. A bit silly - its only a bed, I wouldn't be ruining my lay in to reserve a bed while im on holiday but I guess thats important to some people. There are plenty of normal sunbeds for all us chilled out people to lay on. The pool boys will rush over with little mattresses for the sunbeds and pillows. Lots of shady quieter areas to lay if you want to chill out and read a book or you can join in on the action around the pool and enjoy the music.

The entertainment was good, luckily never experienced the 'resident duo' mentioned by so many people but to be fair we just enjoyed sitting in the pool area chatting and drinking cocktails. The acrobats and belly dancer were amazing and the beach party was fab - shame it rained that night but the fire eaters were impressive!

As mentioned earlier we booked a photoshoot with the hotels photographer while we were there, it was so much fun! We got engaged while there and it was lovely to have some professional photos to take home. The photographers are a good laugh and will spend alot of tine with you. We had photos done at sunrise and at night time by the pool and they are gorgeous. They charge around 8 dinar per photograph which is pennies (around £2.50 i reckon) and they can burn them onto a disc for you too. You'd pay around £30 per print back home!

We went on a couple of excursions while we were here, really the only time we went out of the hotel - there is security on each end of the hotel and grounds 24/7 so we felt very safe. Outside of the hotel on the main streets is really quite dirty with rubbish struin around the streets - if tunisia is serious about tourism they really need to action this - no reflection on the hotel as this was spotless.

Can't mention enough how amazing the staff were, Hedi the guest services manager is just fabulous and so so funny and entertaining. Aussie - I think was the assistant manager cannot do enough for you - he even offered to go out to a back street shop for us to pick up a new iphone charger when ours broke - in his own personal time. The staff seem to love their jobs and this shows in their attention to detail and the smiles on their faces. If you have booked a holiday at the scheherazade you really will have an amazing holiday no matter what age you are - we are not people to return to places as we like to travel to new places every year however we are already considering the Scheherazade for our honeymoon! :)

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are great as you can walk right out your patio doors onto the pool area/beach. It...

We spent 1 week at the Scheherazade for our honeymoon (10-17 August).
We were greeted with dancing and clapping which felt a little unnecessary but an alternative way to feel welcomed.
Hotel made a fuss of us as honeymooners by decorating the room with many rose petals, complimentary drinks and food. We had complimentary slippers (too small for my husband though he was adamant to wear them anyway) and dressing gowns which was a nice touch.
Our room had an excellent view of the beach and pool (we were on the second floor).
Food was of a high standard the majority of the time. We enjoyed the various themed evenings and there was only one night when my husband struggling to find something to his liking and he isn't a fussy eater. The Indian restaurant is exceptional and included in the price. Excellent food, service and ambiance to match. The only criticism of the main buffet restaurant is that it appeared that guests who tipped the waiters early on in their holiday had better service ie drinks being fetched. We're happy to tip, particularly when visiting a country such as Tunisia, but expect the service first.
Excellent service at the beach and poolside. A mattress will be fetched quickly for you when you choose a lounger, forget the day beds unless you're up very early ie 7am
There is a certain etiquette about the hotel which sets a peaceful, friendly and relaxed tone.
All staff great, extremely friendly, but a special mention to Iskander and Amir on reception. Iskander asked many times if we were enjoying our honeymoon which was lovely. It was really helpful that all staff could speak English. We had many conversations with our cleaner who was very smiley, chatty
and hard working.
Affordable water sports at the hotel and Ali baba excursions. We went jet skiing, quad biking and para sailing.
The cleanliness is excellent including the beach area which is cleaned, raked and dampened every morning.
Perfect holiday choice for a couple wanting a quality, relaxing holiday. :))

We stayed here from the 6th to 13th August and wished we'd booked 10 days instead of 7 as it was wonderful. It was very hot but breezy so was very bearable.

The minute we stepped off the coach we felt welcomed and straight away could tell that the staff were going to be great. They were! They all worked so hard and always greeted you when you were walking through the hotel. They couldn't do enough for you. Hedi was fantastic, he does his job really well. Ashraf was a great addition to the hotel, making sure people were entertained during the day and he was really friendly.

The food was really nice, a big variety every day. The restaurant opens earlier for breakfast if you go on an excursion with Thomson which was really helpful.

We went on the Tale of 3 Cities tour which was brilliant. The tour guide's knowledge was incredible; so knowledgable and interesting to listen to. The tour itself was very good and it was good to learn a bit about Tunisia and its history.

The room we stayed in was lovely; very comfortable. The bathroom had everything we needed, we didn't care about the lack of tiles! The cleaners did a good job every day and like the rest of the staff, so polite and friendly.

The evening entertainment was okay; to be honest we met people over there so spent most evenings chatting with them, having some drinks etc and not really paying attention to the music/dancing etc!

Overall we had a brilliant holiday and didn't want to leave!! We would definitely recommend the hotel to people. Thank you for a wonderful holiday and keep up the good work :-)

What an amazing place....

Have just got back after a weeks stay, and what can I say... The accommodation was lovely, basic bathroom, but large and clean...and when the pool and beach are so fab, you won't be spending long there...!!!

The food... Something for everyone, themed nights, and always plenty of choices.soups, salads, vegetarian, meat, fish..no matter your dietary requirements, there is something for everyone...

There is a lovely mix of ages, from 20's up to more senior couples, there are family groups, newly weds, anniversary couples, birthdays...

When we arrived we were greeted with the staff, dancing and singing to welcome us, we were shown to the bar area, were we filled in a form and were given cocktails and chocolates...our room was available immediately so,that meant a quick change and off to the beach!!!!

A special mention must go to Hedi... What a fantastic guy... Always round the pool, making sure everyone is 'very happy' and having a good time... He arranges water aerobics if your feeling energetic and water polo... All good fun, even just to watch..and don't worry it isn't constant activities all day... Maybe for an hour a day, the rest of the time you can just chill by the pool...

There are some water sports on the beach, jet ski, canoeing, water skiing and paragliding.... The water is beautifully warm and clear, snorkelling is fun and there are lots of fish, the sand is soft and fine....

Sunbeds - there are lots available from day beds to wicker beds and the traditional sunbeds, once you decide which you want the pool man will bring you cushions and you can get beach towels with you token (I would suggest taking you own beach towel as they are small) I will confess to being one of the mad people up at 5 to grab one of the sofa day beds, but... It wasn't just because I wanted one of these beds, but watching the sun rise which happens at about 5.30 it stunning!!! So it makes the early rise worth it...once the sun has come up you can snuggle on the bed and go back to sleep until breakfast which starts at 7.....

Breakfast, you cannot miss Mr Egg as I affectionately called him..so smiley and makes the most fantastic omelette, just remember to ask to have egg in it when you choose your fillings lol!!!!

Not sure what else I can add really, other than the place is fantastic... The staff are warm and friendly, the weather was fabulous.....wine is good, food is good....

Look, one thing, tipping.... The staff all welcome tips (obviously!) however, if your not sure who to tip or would like to give a more sharing tip... If you see Hedi there is a staff pot, and anything received is shared amongst all the staff...

On leaving, the staff come out and wave you off with white tissues... All the little things made it perfect... THANK YOU HOTEL SCHEHERAZADE!!!!

Room Tip: All rooms seem to be very good...

Stayed at this hotel from the 30th July to the 14th August
Reception : The swiftness of check in at this hotel is superb, the quickest we have experienced since coming to Tunisia in eight years. On arrival we were given a hot towel to freshen up,a welcome drink & was taken to the restaurant for light refreshments (snacks).

The Room: On entering the room it was clean & tidy, there was a bowl of fresh fruit, complimentary bottle of wine,a bottle of water & in the fridge a bottle of coke, there was also tea & coffee making facilities. Some of the reviews on here have complained about the bathroom having no tiles on the walls etc we really didn't think this was a problem, our housekeeper was Jamila she was very efficient at her job & like all the staff very friendly. Our room was covered in rose petals on our arrival in the bedroom & bathroom with the towels in a heart shape on the bed (such a nice touch ).All rooms are sea view (outstanding )

Pool: There are two pools one in the courtyard & the main one,the pool attendant worked so hard making sure you had a mattress & cushion, the area was very clean the water in the pool was always being tested .The only compliaint we have is that there is a lack of parasols, also guests reserving what is known as 'The Posh Beds' at ridiculous times of the morning as early as 5am if not earlier (sad people ).

Restaurant: A good selection of food for breakfast, lunch & dinner, even a vegetarian section !!! .Every evening it was a different theme : Italian,French. Far East,Mexican,Tunisian etc ,the cooking is all done infront of you with large I can only describe as tureens with the food in keeping piping hot, there was also regular checks with temperature probes making sure the food was keeping at the correct temp whether it be hot or cold food.On Saturday evenings it was Gala Night which is set around the courtyard pool, this is Red & White night or Black & White night, all the tables being decorated & the waiters dressing accordingly.

Entertainment: Could be better its the usual hotel entertainment Fire Eaters, dreadful singers etc .

One final note all the staff in this hotel work extremely hard with long hours nothing is too much trouble for them, that is from the managers to the housekeeping staff, gardeners etc they all deserve a pat on the back for making this hotel great. The Thomson reps were two of the friendliest we have come across in all the time of travelling with Thomson Tammie & Kirk.

And Finally I come to the Guest Relations Manager 'Hedi ' what a guy he was always making sure everything was ok with the guests, always making time for a chat,as well as being very entertaining ( keep up the good work).

This was our first visit to this hotel,we weren't disappointed it was a lovely holiday & we will be back .Deb's & Roy

This was our first experience of a Thomson Couples holiday so weren't 100% sure about what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised and couldn't have been more relaxed. On arrival, we were greeted with smiling faces, a cooling cocktail, warm facecloth and chocolate. What more could anyone ask for when they get off the transfer coach? Our room had complimentary fruit, water, wine and bath robes, and was beautifully decorated with fresh rose petals. Within minutes the phone rang and it was the Rep welcoming us and checking that we had everything we needed. The room had ample storage space, a fridge, hairdryer, wifi, balcony and an amazing sea view. The air conditioning wasn't working properly, but we mentioned it later to the Rep and there was an engineer working on it within half an hour. It still wasn't the most effective we have experienced, but that was the only issue we had with our room.
The hotel itself is well maintained with cleaners working constantly yet discreetly. There are four bars, a main buffet style restaurant, a poolside snack bar which doubles up as a steak restaurant at night and an Indian restaurant. The main buffet offered a variety of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, three times a day. The food was well cooked albeit a bit "samey". The poolside snack bar was fine, offering fast food i.e. pasta, burgers etc, as well as a salad bar and dessert section. We didn't visit the steak restaurant so can't comment on that one. The Indian we felt was a let down, the food was not like anything we have experienced in the UK or in Asia. In fact, it is the first time I have ever left a restaurant without eating the food.
There are two pools, a courtyard one, and one adjacent to the beach. Both were equipped with sun loungers, bedouin style beds, relaxers and sofas. The pool and beach staff cater to all your needs, supplying towels, cushions and drinks! The private beach is spotlessly clean with plenty of sun loungers and sun shades.
The evening entertainment is very "low key" and not of the highest standard, but this hotel isn't about nightlife, it's about relaxation.
All the staff are wonderful, from management to cleaners. They are polite, helpful and very astute at recognising which couples like all the attention, and which ones are happy with minimal fuss.
We would like to thank everyone at the Scheherazade Hotel for a wonderful relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view, but rooms 700 - 715 & 800 - 815 are the most sea facing. We didn'...
