We were on AI basis and found the hotel was kept very clean with cleaners continually doing the rounds. We enjoyed the food but I have to say if you don't enjoy Tunisian food you would probably complain at what was on offer. There was more than enough to choose from at every meal and it waiters kept continually filling our glasses up with wine throughout. They were very pleasant and in no way expected us to tip them every time as some people would indicate. The only draw back was having to return to the hotel dining area to eat lunch as the beach bar was not open at this time of the year and so it disrupted our beach life as we had to go in and get changed every lunch time whereas we would have preferred to eat something light around the beach. We did in fact make up sandwiches at breakfast for the last few days and take them to the beach with us as it was possible to buy drinks on the beach. We were allowed one evening meal in the A La Carte restaurant which was waiter service, this made a nice change. The hotel was in a fantastic location on the beach and within easy walking distance to Sousse centre, we also walked along the beach one day to Port El Kantoui which was nice. We upgraded our room before we went to have a sea view and this was well worth doing as we had a larger room even though we didn't particularly go out on to the balcony that much. We found the staff very friendly and the bar staff did not expect tips either and worked very hard. The local drinks (spirits) left a lot to be desired but we did get used to them, the beer was okay and we found Tiberine and Coke to be the best drink although surprisingly the whisky wasn't too bad. The gin didn't taste anything like gin as we know it but the brandy was palatable too. The only rude person we came across was the person in charge of the sunbeds who was only what I can describe as horrible, he expected tips every day from people just for putting a sunbed out for them. We were quite happy to do this ourselves but he objected to this. To my mind sunbeds should already be set out on the beach when you go down to the beach, in fact every hotel we saw all the way to Port El Kantoui had their beds set out on the beach. One of the reasons for going AI is so that you don't have to carry money around with you. We can't comment too much on the entertainment as we only tried it one night and after about 15 minutes we left as it was useless and geared up for the children. This was held in the disco from 9 pm which I thought was much too late for young children as it didn't finish until about 11 pm. We did try the disco one night which was supposed to start at 11 pm but after waiting for half an hour and nothing happened we got bored and left. I think this needs to start at 11 pm as there is nothing else to do and people got fed up of hanging around and just went to bed. There is a fantastic spa in the hotel and on the second day we spent all morning having various massages and treatments and went back for more on our last day, it is well worth a visit and totally relaxing. We do intend going back next year though as all in all we had a brilliant holiday and will give the entertainment another try. The beaches were kept clean and the resort itself didn't have an air of dirtiness about it. The medina was brilliant for shopping but don't be put off by people trying to drag you into their shops, it is worth putting up with we bought some brilliant pottery. Can't comment much on resort entertainment as we didn't go out in the evening except to watch football. There is a brilliant bar which shows all the games in the Taj Marhaba Centre over the road to the hotel, the Rose and Crown and the staff were really friendly. We loved the resort and look forward to going back next Easter.
