“A good holiday at Marhaba Club”
Reviewed 16 June 2014

We stayed at the Marhaba Club for two weeks returning on 14/06/14
The hotel was very clean and the staff were great especially the pool bar staff and animation crew
We tipped the waiters, bar staff and our maid odd times during the stay and we had fantastic service, the maid who cleaned our room always left it with towel sculptures and if we had any issues e.g. our fridge did not work, mentioned it to her and it was sorted straight away, waiters were always great
The first week was quieter and the food quality was excellent on the second week the hotel filled up and the food quality did go to what I would class more standard all inclusive food, still ok but a definite step change from the first week
Having said that friends we met there asked the waiter if the chef could cook something off menu for them and the kitchen cooked them the meal they asked for
Breakfast was basic but ok fried eggs cooked to order and normal breakfast options but not full English if that's what your after
They do not serve brandy in the all inclusive but do most other local shorts and local beer
They only had one place for night time entertainment that was Neptunes bar wher the animation team did kids club karaoke and put on shows but there was no professional acts in the bar
Other than that you had the two bars at the receptions of the two adjoining hotels

We had a great holiday and would go again to the hotel but I think it's more 3 star than 4 as advertised

The local area was ok to walk around, be careful if you want to cross the roads outside the hotel as the cars take no notice of crossings and keep going, we found that it was easier to buy in fixed price shops rather than have all the hassle of bartering for everything,it started to get a bit wearing after a few trips to the shops so we only used the fixed price ones (turn left out of hotel by farmers restaurant) and to be honest we paid no more than the people who did barter for goods

Couple of scams to watch out for we had no problems but were told to look out so just letting you know
Cover your all inclusive bands outside the hotel, we used towelling sweat bands on our wrists as you get men come up saying they work in your hotel and they know of cheap trips and cheap goods and you end up paying the earth for rubbish
On the beach you get people come up to you with a few pounds in sterling asking can you change it for them, when you get your purse out to change it they grab your purse and run off
In shops Be firm and no matter how funny the salesmen in the shops get, don't let them badger you into buying things you don't want or you think is too expensive, they will get arsey but just walk away
I am not putting this on to frighten you off as we had no problems but you need to be aware

Room Tip: Ask for pool or sea view rooms or you will end up overlooking the main road and car parks Higher up...

This is a nice hotel and our room was nice (room 1158), and was cleaned daily by friendly maids. All of the staff were friendly and the service was great apart from one waiter who seemed to have an attitude problem but we asked to be seated elsewhere and we were moved straight away. No one else appeared to have a problem with him though.
The food was nice with a good variety. Breakfast was buffet with two live stations, one doing pancakes and one doing omelettes and fried eggs. The restaurant in the Marhaba Hotel has a coffee machine which provides a much nicer cup off coffee than the stuff served in the pots. Every day we had lunch by three pool. This was also buffet with a live barbecue station serving a different thing every day, the buffet provided a good selection. Dinner was a buffet with a live pasta and sauce station, and a live station which was different every day.
The bar service was excellent at all times but some areas, particularly the pool bar and the Neptune's pool bar could have done with an additional bartender at times, as the wait was quite long when it got busy and the poor bartenders were rushed off their feet. There is a good selection in the all inclusive drinks options including lager, red, white, and rose wines, vodka, gin, whiskey, various cocktails, and soft sinks. If you wanted doubles, no ice, more ice or whatever you just had to ask.
The pool areas were nice with plenty of loungers which can be reserved by putting a towel on. One day there were no loungers left so we just asked a member of staff to get more and they obliged within about ten minutes. All inclusive bar service started at 9 and ended at midnight.
The animation team were very good, very friendly, walked around chatting to people, tried to include everyone but took no for an answer. The evening entertainment was fun and entertaining.
The grounds looked to be a bit of a work in progress while we were there, but were not unpleasant and improved as the week went on.
The Thomas Cook rep, Marina, was very informative, however did have a couple of issues with her. Firstly, she introduced our group to a Tunisian man who she vouched for and who was willing to take anyone who wanted to on a free trip around the Medina. We signed up for this but the trip turned out to include a journey out of the resort area to a carpet shop where we didn't want to go and had to sit around for about an hour while the rest of our group were being gently coerced into buying carpets. Secondly, she told us that the people who were walking around the hotel grounds getting people to sign up for trips were dodgy. We signed up for the Pirate ship trip with one of them and it was great. We got it for £10 each, but the TC rep wanted about double that amount. We ended up on the biggest and best of the ships, The Hannibal, there were photos with the 'pirates' which offered for sale later, but a polite 'no' was enough if you didn't want to buy anything, The drinks were 7 dinar £2.70) but all of the food was included in the price. There was swimming in the sea and a great Fakir show including beds of nails and laying on broken glass. All in all well worth a tenner!
Overall this holiday was great with plenty of everything for everyone. Don't expect 5 star anything because you are not paying for that level and be prepared to make compromises on what you will be eating because it's likely to be a bit different to what you are used to as they have to cater for all nationalities and tastes.
The area around this hotel has some great shops, restaurants, and bars that stayed open pretty late.
The beach area has a bar serving soft drinks, plenty of loungers and a roped off area to keep the hawkers away.
Most of the sellers in the street will leave you alone after a polite no but some do need to be told twice, and the occasional one will be rude. The sellers in the Medina are very pushy, but it is a shopping area and so they assume people are there to buy stuff.
I would recommend this hotel and this resort to anyone.

I got this hotel on a late staff deal, as I work for a tour operator and after some of the reviews I was really unsure of what I had booked I went to the hotel not expecting a great deal however, I was suprised!!. Firstly the beach was absolutly stunning!! Plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas to choose from and the sunbed man on the beach was a massive help and worked extremley hard!. On arrival to the hotel, check in was smooth and efficent and we were made a welcome drink whilst we were filling out forms. We then made our way upto our room (1302) and our bags shortly followed us afterwards by a helpful porter. The rooms were spacious and clean, just what we wanted (who spends all day in their rooms anyway?) we had a huge bathroom aswell. The towels were sometimes a bit discoloured but they were clean!. On the first night we ate at the Marhaba Club resturant which has two sitting times, Lunch tends to be either by the snack bar or in Marhaba resturant which was the next hotel along. The food in there tended to have alot more selction of food, however the only issue at lunch was that it became two busy as they only had the one sitting, everyone kind of bombarded the resturant as soon as it opened and sometimes it was difficult to find a clean table however, as soon as the waiters saw you looking for a table they escorted and cleaned it for you. My main other issue with the eating arrangements is that you are pre-assigned a table depending on your room number, this was then your table for your duration of the stay however, we were not assigned a table so sat where we wanted which worked perfectly until a rude waiter came upto my partner who said he can not sit there it was for other guests. We were then told that we were assigned table 55, which was fine if thats how they did it. The night after we were preassigned the table some other guests were sat on our table we were then told because we were from Marhaba Club they do not assign tables. Overall I think the whole pre-assigning tables should be scraped as the resturant is plenty big each enough and it just causes confusion for everybody.
As for drinks, they had red, white and rose wine to choose from and general spirits such as vodka. They also had beer on tap and soft drinks. We were given one large bottle of water for our room on our arrival however our fridge did not seem to work that well. One thing is that the drinks tended to be warm and not cold, and in the tempretures that they had over there, you just needed a cold bottle of water!. Coldest drink of holiday was the beach bar slushies!. As for entertainment we were a little bit unsure of where the entertainment building was however, they did offer plenty of activities through out the day which you could get involved with or not get involved with it was up to what you wanted to do on the holiday.
Overall, the holiday was much better than I was expecting and I would certainly return to Tunisia & to the Marhaba Club!.

TOP TIPS:
- At enfhida airport on your arrival, there are porters waiting outsider to take your luggage, these are not part of your tour operator and will expect a tip to do this service. Just a plesant 'No thank you'
- The coach driver expected a tip when he drops you off at your hotel & so does your porter
- We only tipped the sunbed man on the beach during our week stay as we felt he truly deserved it. We did not recieve any different level of service from not tipping the waiters.

We stayed at the Maharba Club from 1st-8th June, The biggest disappointments were no air conditioning allowed until the middle of June, the temperature was 36' and sleeping with the patio doors open all night left us slaughtered by mosquitos. There were only a handful of parasols around the pool and the only way of securing one was to get up at the crack of dawn or tip the sun bed man generously and then you could leave a towel on the bed while you clear off all day leaving those of us that needed shade highly frustrated.
Breakfast and dinner (2 sittings) for the latter we found lack of variety but food was hot and we got no tummy troubles. Lunch was served in the hotel next door where it was utter chaos with queues for food and drinks, they were always running out of cutlery and glasses and one day didn't bother to put out any desserts until after we left.
The safety deposit boxes are situated behind reception with a deposit of 20TD and a daily charge of 1TD, although this is very inconvenient it is advisable as we heard off other hotel guests that there is quite a bit of thieving going off while your out for the day.
The rooms are very basic, no hairdryer, safe, iron, tea making facilities and an old style tv, it lacks drawers, the towels are every shade of grey but the room service could not be faulted and despite needing a good face lift it was always well cleaned.
The animation team were good and tried to get people to do sports etc but weren't pushy. We found most of the staff friendly but got the feeling that people that tipped obviously got better attention.
This hotel is certainly not 4* but we feel we got what we paid for.

My husband and I stayed at the Marhaba Club Hotel from May 25th 2014 for 1 week. From the minute we arrived to the minute we left, staff could not have been more helpful or more nicer. Our room was lovely and the maid did beautiful swan shapes with our towels and left rose petals in the sink and around the room which smelled lovely and even though we were on the top floor, as the hotel only has 4 floors, still wasn't too high. Our rep was so helpful, she couldn't do enough for people. The hotel was beautiful and very clean. The food was lovely, okay, a bit repetitive but for someone who is a very fussy eater, there was always a great selection and I always ate well. The atmosphere in and around the hotel was always friendly and welcoming. The entertainment team were great and very friendly. The pools were kept really clean with plenty of sunbeds, even the beach was kept lovely and clean with no shortage of sunbeds and parasols and it was great that there was a rope fence to stop the locals pestering us with their selling banter. The only thing I would say as a negative was that the teenagers in and around the hotel appeared a bit bored with the evening entertainment. There wasn't enough for them really but the younger ones seemed to love the kids disco etc. We didn't have any children with us so we didn't have that problem, so for us it was a great holiday, we loved it and would highly recommend it, We are already considering going back. 10 out of 10 from us. Donna & Garry Lloyd.

Room Tip: If you want a sea or pool view, make sure you ask for one, we didn't ask so didn't get one.

well after reading all the negative reviews before i went , i say to you people who wrote them , what are you on. people from the uk if your going to tunisia get yourself to this wonderful resort in sousse . From the moment we arrived me and my family were treated with nothing but kindness and respect wether we gave a tip or not , the rooms are spacious and comfortable, the food was fantastic plenty of choice ,even the wife found plenty to eat, and trust me she wont just eat anything. The poolside lunchtime snackbar was fantastic and plentyful and the wonderful staff always made sure the 6 of us always sat together. The 2 swimmimg pools offered something for all , with the quiet pool a real plus for us . Beach was private and clean with plenty of sunbeds to go around and the roped off area meant you could not be acosted by the locals peddling there goods ,unless like us you wanted to . and then you go to them .The animation team were very friendly . but in no way pushy for you to participate , the choice is yours. If i had 1 small request to the management it would be some tea and coffee making facillites in the rooms . but hey its never to long before the next feed up .Really this is a 5 star venue with a 4 star rating .so people what you waiting for , get yourself to the marhaba club in sousse for a fantastic holiday experience.

Room Tip: rooms on higher floors have less a/c unit noise ,
