“I bet it would be a great holiday in the peak season. February was too cold and quiet.”
Reviewed 4 March 2012

The hotel offers fantastic facilities, the water was too cold so we were able to take advantage of the indoor pool which was great. we also used the gym and massage services which was nice. All staff were very kind. Unfortunately we stayed in February which was clearly out of season. There was only a handful of other people in the hotel which meant there was no atmosphere, more like a ghost town.
The all inclusive package only includes very basic drinks. For those who drink alcohol unfortunately all local brews were very difficult to drink and tasted quite disgusting. (and normally I'm more than happy with any old lager, wine or vodka)
The hotel rooms were great, Offering beautiful sea views and cleanliness was maintained to a high standard.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks in April 2010, and it was a really lovely holiday for me and my family, including 2 children (ages 8 and 4).

We had inter-connecting rooms which looked a bit outdated, but were kept clean at all times. The sea view from our balcony was gorgeous, the pool area was nice and quiet, the beach was nice but the sea was still not warm enough to swim in. Food was very good; nothing too spectacular but there was always a lot of choice and we particularly enjoyed our breakfast buffet.

The town of Sousse is just a 10-minute ride away on the Noddy Train, which was so much fun for my children, my husband and myself too! It's also much cheaper than taxis which we tried to avoid because drivers didn't use their metres. We found Sousse itself very charming and friendly, and the food we bought from little shops and cafes was all cheap and very tasty. Tunisia depends hugely on agriculture and they have fresh fruit and veg which tastes real, not plastic like what we find mostly in our supermarkets. Quite a few locals in the old town (Mdina) offering henna tattoos, which my daughter and I liked, but make sure you let them know if you want pure natural henna rather than a mixture which includes ink and which some people actually prefer because it lasts longer.

We booked through Thomson, and their rep Fathi was just great with a cheeky sense of humour. We didn't opt for any of their excursions though because we felt they were a bit too over-priced. We independently booked train tickets to the capital Tunis and visited the gorgeous town of Sidi Bou Said which is a definite must-see wherever you are in Tunisia. Tunisian people were very welcoming and generous, and lots of them speak French and some English, so you'll always find someone willing to help and show you where to go.

First impressions of the hotel were great, very clean and cocktails were given to all who had just arrived while we filled out out paperwork. Rooms were lovely and sea view was beautiful, staff very friendly and helpful. The only down sides i'll mention is that not everything is all inclusive. There is an all inclusive menu and also a menu that you can choose from but have to pay for. The all inclusive menu is extremely limited and the food wasn't anything to shout about (apart from the breakfasts which were great). There's a lovely smoothie bar by the pool, me and my partner could have lived on these the whole holiday, but unfortunately they were pricey. The night entertainment was good and the animation staff were very good. A lot of reviews say that staff were always hanging round for tips - we never experienced this.

The excursions were also great and i would DEFIANTLY recommend the zoo trip as we were able to hold the baby merekats, had photos taken in a gerraff enclosure and and close up pictures of the cheetahs. El Jem and the market (The Medina) are also defiantly worth a visit.

Over all really enjoyed the holiday and would recommend it to others.

Room Tip: Sea view is well worth the extra money and a higher floor obviously provides a better view

Had 2 weeks at Marhaba Beach Hotel Sousse from 28/12/2011to 11/01/2012and enjoyed every minute of it.From Getting off the coach on arrival to getting back on to come home the staff were friendly and helpful, even teaching us a few words of arabic.
The food was well cooked and good selection, the drinks suited our parties taste, beer, red and white wine, gin, brandy and whisky, none of us drink cocktails so i cannot comment on those.
New Years Eve party was as good as any we've been to,[at 80 years old i've seen a few to
compare with] there was a lot of different nationalites all mixing together and it made a great
atmosphere,it was avery good value for money holiday and we wouldn't hessitate to do it again
next year.

My (now) husband (who proposed at during our stay here!) and I had a lovely 10 day summer holiday at Marhaba Beach. The employees couldnt be more please to be of service, they were so enthusiasic about being helpful! Middle of august yet we never had to wait or queue for drinks, or food...
Lovely big bedroom with a stunning view over the sea - only down side was it was a little noisy during meal times as if we had the balcony door open we could hear the clattering of the washing up, but double glazed sliding door - couldnt hear a thing when it was closed.

For those of you who complain saying it wasnt up to "4* hotel standards"... I think you may be forgetting that all of Northern Africa is developping countries - 4 tunisian stars arent the same as 4 european stars!!

As for the local area, Sousse is a bit dreary to be honest.... We got a Tuk-Tuk (an open air cross between a bus and a taxi - cheap and so much fun!!) out to Port El Kantaoui for a catamaran trip which was really relaxing. A MUST SEE around there is Sidi-Bou-Said which is simply stunning!!! We spent a day in Tunis in the markets which was entertaining as an experience, but nothing spectacular....
For those with kids, Friquia Animal park is also really nice - hand feeding the elephants, stroking a giraffe, and an impressive seal show!
The amphitheater in El Djem is also well worth a visit.
Make sure at least one morning while you are there you force yourself to wake up really early to watch the sun rise over the water - it is breathtaking!!!

I stayed at the Marhaba beach for a week in January just to get away from the English winter. I had a problems with one of my bags and the woman in reception was very helpful, made several phone calls and located it for me. This helpful theme continued with all the staff during my stay.

My room and the bathroom were spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable and I slept like a log. There were only two English channels on the TV unfortunately.

As it was the middle of the winter the hotel was not firing on all pistons. The outdoor swimming pool wasn't operating but this didn't matter as the large indoor one was. I can also recommend the gym and if you are AI you also get use of the sauna and steam room free.

The evening entertainment was a bit weak, a guy with a synthesiser quite a lot of the time singing in English, French, German and Arabic and mumbling the words he didn't know!

Both dinner and lunch were excellent with constantly changing menus and the food was first class. Breakfasts got a bit boring after a while and I don't care if it is a long time until I see another turkey sausage! We did have bacon a few times though. There is also afternoon tea with rolls and cake. The drinks varied. There is only one brand of everything if you are AI. The wine is good, the whisky acceptable, the beer quite drinkable but the 'orange juice', which is made from a concentrate leaves a lot to be desired.

If you are thinking of a winter break the indoor swimming pool, gym and spa as well as the good food make this hotel a good choice. I would imagine that in the summer, being right on the beach, it would also be a safe bet.

Room Tip: Go for the top floor, 4 and ask for a sea view. It is stunning.
