Booked through Thompson (and you can never go wrong with Thompson). Such good value for money that we have re-booked for next year. My husband, me and our 11 year old twins. This hotel included children upto and including age 12. We had a family room and it was massive. loads of hanging space and bathroom so big that we stored our airbeds in it! We were on the ground floor (room 2001) and did not have a balcony. This was fine because our patio doors opened onto a large shared garden and we all had a patio chairs&table set. If you had toddelers though it wouldnt be suitable as they could wander off. There are other family rooms, with a balcony, but the room is much smaller with bunkbeds and we preferred the larger room. Loads of toiletries and maid decorated the beds most days. I believe other rooms had plasma wall mounted TVs. Ours was an older TV but worked perfectly. All the usual international tv channels but there was a 24 hr English movie channel which was great when you wanted to get out of the sun for a few hours. We arrived 19th May for 2 wks. The check in takes forever! its not the hotels fault - its just 'red tape'. You fill in long labourious immigration forms on the plane (passport no, date of issue, place of issue etc etc)and you have to complete the same forms again at your hotel. It was about 1.30 am when we got to room and only had 1 pillow each. We rang reception and more were delivered immediateley. The beds were like rock(other reviews have said this too) but all my family slept really well on them! You dont have to tip but if you do then 1 dinar (about 40p) is much appreciated. For the first 3 nights entertainment was really low key and held in the reception area. Then by 23rd May BOOM! the entertainment moved to the outside stage with a full animation team. They were all nice lads trying their best. They got everyone involved and it was a good laugh. They did dance routines, mini disco, comedy sketches etc. They played bingo once or twice and it was a bit expensive at £5 a ticket! The hotel is about half English/half Russian and this bothered me as I had heard tales of Russians being rude and refusing to queue. This did not happen and everyone got along fine. There are some French tourists at the hotel but they were all housed in a separate block with their own resturant(not all inclusive). We went to the spa one day (it lookd magical on the hotel tv channel in your room). It was very pricey! and the staff were not very accomodating to non french speaking customers. My husband and I just stood around like idiots - nobody telling us where to undress, where to go etc - at one point I think they fogot about us in the sauna till we had to walk out of there as it had been so long and we couldnt breath! The spa staff were falling all over the French tourists - giving them free bags, free flipflops etc. I drink vodka and the local vodka that they serve was really decent and my husband thought the same about the gin. They do serve diet coke(cola light they call it) from a bottle so make sure you ask for it. They pour HUGE measures too! The pool was nice. My kids made lots of friends and played in pool all day. There is a life guard on duty at all times. If you cant find enough sunbeds, matresses or umbrellas then he will bring them to you(again 1 dinar/ 40 pence as a tip). Games throughout the day. I didnt bother but my husband played archery and darts etc. The children rehearsed for a kids concert one night-that was good. The beach is gorgeous! again - loads of loungers and matresses. A life guard always on duty on the beach too and he will also get you extra chairs/matresses. There are LOTS of locals selling stuff on the beach but they are not allowed to cross a line in the sand. The only time they bother you is if you cross that line into the sea. Be direct and say 'No'. They will drape necklaces around your childrens necks then demand money!! The water sports are really good value. my husband and son did paragliding and jet skis. Both worked out at £20 for one person or £30 for 2 people Dont make the same mistake that we made! there are a couple of men by the pool, approved by the hotel, that sell you trips. They are decent value. We didnt use them but other families did and were happy with them. They will bug you every day by the pool if you tell them you're thinking about it!!!! just tell them that you have pre-booked all your trips in The UK and that will be enough. We tried lots of excused like 'we're too tired', 'we're waiting for more fmily to join us' - they DONT forget and they would approach every day asking 'are your fmaily here yet?'. We took taxis to a few places. The rep told us to always ask for the clock fayer but not always a good idea. One taxi driver looked at the clock fayer, when we arrived at the medina, and said that all 4 of us had to pay that amount - I just burst out laughing and told him to 'get lost' but others may have fell for this!! Best to negotiate a price before you get in. Always taxis waiting right outside the hotel. There are a few shops outside the hotel but the gift shop on the first right is the best because the prices are set and you wont get them cheaper anywhere else by bartering.. Everywhere else you have to haggle. The haggling can become quite aggressive so you have to be assertive. We have been to Morroco a few times so know what to expect. At the medina they will dive on you as you get out of the taxi!!!! There is a large fixed priced department store and its really cheap - dresses for a fiver and toy camels for a pound! The market traders will follow you and bother you something wicked! They really think that we are millionaires and its all just copy shoes and handbags that we can get in markets back homeor over the internet. We had a lovely day at the marina. We took a taxi from out hotel gate(pre agreed a price of about 5 dinar). The marina is really classy with some fantastic boats moored there. Try and resist the shops until you are right on the marina front because ,again, there is a set price shop and it is really cheap! keyrings and fridge magnets for 1 dinar (40 pence) fake Gucci bag, and watches - you could get stressed out haggling and really wouldnt get them for any cheaper. The copy Converse pumps were a good deal. There were men on the front selling trips on a mini submarine. He charged us the equivelent of £20 and they took us out for an hour! Sometimes you may have to share with others but they must have been having a slack day. It was more like a glass bottom boat but you had to climb down steep steps into the belly of the boat. My daughter got a bit scared so we sat up on deck. My husband and son loved it. Once out at sea they through food over the side so the fish would come over. Tunisia is outside the EU so you can but cheap cigarettes. Dont buy them at Manchester airport like we did! they were about £15 cheaper on the plane. Breakfast and dinner is in the main resturant and you get given your own table for the entire stay. We likes this. Me and the kids are fussy eaters but always managed to have a decent meal. My husband will try anything so he loved it. We were so greedy whilst in this hotel!! we set our bodyclocks around meals and snacks! the pool snack bar is where you go for lunch. Loats of pizzas, burgers, pasta etc but the fresh crusty bread is always gorgeous. The ice-cream was gorgeous too. The ice-cream finished at 3pm but then the pancakes came on-delicious! I really wanted to do the overnight trip to The Star vWars sets but you are on a coach for 7 hours there and back so didnt bother.
