“Such good value for money”
Reviewed 29 June 2012

Booked through Thompson (and you can never go wrong with Thompson). Such good value for money that we have re-booked for next year. My husband, me and our 11 year old twins. This hotel included children upto and including age 12. We had a family room and it was massive. loads of hanging space and bathroom so big that we stored our airbeds in it! We were on the ground floor (room 2001) and did not have a balcony. This was fine because our patio doors opened onto a large shared garden and we all had a patio chairs&table set. If you had toddelers though it wouldnt be suitable as they could wander off. There are other family rooms, with a balcony, but the room is much smaller with bunkbeds and we preferred the larger room. Loads of toiletries and maid decorated the beds most days. I believe other rooms had plasma wall mounted TVs. Ours was an older TV but worked perfectly. All the usual international tv channels but there was a 24 hr English movie channel which was great when you wanted to get out of the sun for a few hours. We arrived 19th May for 2 wks. The check in takes forever! its not the hotels fault - its just 'red tape'. You fill in long labourious immigration forms on the plane (passport no, date of issue, place of issue etc etc)and you have to complete the same forms again at your hotel. It was about 1.30 am when we got to room and only had 1 pillow each. We rang reception and more were delivered immediateley. The beds were like rock(other reviews have said this too) but all my family slept really well on them! You dont have to tip but if you do then 1 dinar (about 40p) is much appreciated. For the first 3 nights entertainment was really low key and held in the reception area. Then by 23rd May BOOM! the entertainment moved to the outside stage with a full animation team. They were all nice lads trying their best. They got everyone involved and it was a good laugh. They did dance routines, mini disco, comedy sketches etc. They played bingo once or twice and it was a bit expensive at £5 a ticket! The hotel is about half English/half Russian and this bothered me as I had heard tales of Russians being rude and refusing to queue. This did not happen and everyone got along fine. There are some French tourists at the hotel but they were all housed in a separate block with their own resturant(not all inclusive). We went to the spa one day (it lookd magical on the hotel tv channel in your room). It was very pricey! and the staff were not very accomodating to non french speaking customers. My husband and I just stood around like idiots - nobody telling us where to undress, where to go etc - at one point I think they fogot about us in the sauna till we had to walk out of there as it had been so long and we couldnt breath! The spa staff were falling all over the French tourists - giving them free bags, free flipflops etc. I drink vodka and the local vodka that they serve was really decent and my husband thought the same about the gin. They do serve diet coke(cola light they call it) from a bottle so make sure you ask for it. They pour HUGE measures too! The pool was nice. My kids made lots of friends and played in pool all day. There is a life guard on duty at all times. If you cant find enough sunbeds, matresses or umbrellas then he will bring them to you(again 1 dinar/ 40 pence as a tip). Games throughout the day. I didnt bother but my husband played archery and darts etc. The children rehearsed for a kids concert one night-that was good. The beach is gorgeous! again - loads of loungers and matresses. A life guard always on duty on the beach too and he will also get you extra chairs/matresses. There are LOTS of locals selling stuff on the beach but they are not allowed to cross a line in the sand. The only time they bother you is if you cross that line into the sea. Be direct and say 'No'. They will drape necklaces around your childrens necks then demand money!! The water sports are really good value. my husband and son did paragliding and jet skis. Both worked out at £20 for one person or £30 for 2 people Dont make the same mistake that we made! there are a couple of men by the pool, approved by the hotel, that sell you trips. They are decent value. We didnt use them but other families did and were happy with them. They will bug you every day by the pool if you tell them you're thinking about it!!!! just tell them that you have pre-booked all your trips in The UK and that will be enough. We tried lots of excused like 'we're too tired', 'we're waiting for more fmily to join us' - they DONT forget and they would approach every day asking 'are your fmaily here yet?'. We took taxis to a few places. The rep told us to always ask for the clock fayer but not always a good idea. One taxi driver looked at the clock fayer, when we arrived at the medina, and said that all 4 of us had to pay that amount - I just burst out laughing and told him to 'get lost' but others may have fell for this!! Best to negotiate a price before you get in. Always taxis waiting right outside the hotel. There are a few shops outside the hotel but the gift shop on the first right is the best because the prices are set and you wont get them cheaper anywhere else by bartering.. Everywhere else you have to haggle. The haggling can become quite aggressive so you have to be assertive. We have been to Morroco a few times so know what to expect. At the medina they will dive on you as you get out of the taxi!!!! There is a large fixed priced department store and its really cheap - dresses for a fiver and toy camels for a pound! The market traders will follow you and bother you something wicked! They really think that we are millionaires and its all just copy shoes and handbags that we can get in markets back homeor over the internet. We had a lovely day at the marina. We took a taxi from out hotel gate(pre agreed a price of about 5 dinar). The marina is really classy with some fantastic boats moored there. Try and resist the shops until you are right on the marina front because ,again, there is a set price shop and it is really cheap! keyrings and fridge magnets for 1 dinar (40 pence) fake Gucci bag, and watches - you could get stressed out haggling and really wouldnt get them for any cheaper. The copy Converse pumps were a good deal. There were men on the front selling trips on a mini submarine. He charged us the equivelent of £20 and they took us out for an hour! Sometimes you may have to share with others but they must have been having a slack day. It was more like a glass bottom boat but you had to climb down steep steps into the belly of the boat. My daughter got a bit scared so we sat up on deck. My husband and son loved it. Once out at sea they through food over the side so the fish would come over. Tunisia is outside the EU so you can but cheap cigarettes. Dont buy them at Manchester airport like we did! they were about £15 cheaper on the plane. Breakfast and dinner is in the main resturant and you get given your own table for the entire stay. We likes this. Me and the kids are fussy eaters but always managed to have a decent meal. My husband will try anything so he loved it. We were so greedy whilst in this hotel!! we set our bodyclocks around meals and snacks! the pool snack bar is where you go for lunch. Loats of pizzas, burgers, pasta etc but the fresh crusty bread is always gorgeous. The ice-cream was gorgeous too. The ice-cream finished at 3pm but then the pancakes came on-delicious! I really wanted to do the overnight trip to The Star vWars sets but you are on a coach for 7 hours there and back so didnt bother.

Room Tip: If travelling with older kids then ask for a family room on the ground floor. You will have a shared...

We have just returned from a great 2 weeks holiday here.

After reading the reviews before we went i was a bit worried but soon found there was nothing to worry about.

The recption area of the hotel was stunning as soon as you walk in you will say WOW. There are 2 bars in this area the all inclusive bar is the best and the bar man Jimmy was ace the kids liked the milkshake from here. The recepion leads to the terrace this area is great at night if the footy is on the have a bar and large screen.

There was 6 of us 3 adults and 3 children. We had 2 rooms with a fantastic view of the sun terrace, pool and sea.
The rooms were cleaned every day with clean sheets and towels. There was a TV in the room but only 2 english chanels would have been nice for kids chanel just for when we were getting ready at night. But a TV isnt a big issue when your on holiday. The bathroom is huge with a bath and shower.

The food was good. Breakfast had a good mix but dont expect a full English. The sausage are like hotdog sausages and there is NO BACON. I loved the omlettes which were made to order and you could have anything in them. Ask for them well done though. If you like fried eggs get them to turn them because they are very under cooked. Lots of people did like them gooey.
They also did fresh pancakes and doughnuts. If you have young children ask for a mickey mouse pancake our kids loved that.

For dinner we only used the pool bar so not sure what is on in the main restaraunt. The pool bar had Burgers and pizza every day then a selection of other dishes like turkey kebab, meatballs, pasta, rice etc there was also fresh bread, salad, soup. Ice cream, cakes and fruit.

Tea time was again a good selection always something for everyone. They did a different roast every night the best were beef and chicken. The tunisian rice and cous cous were very nice.
The first week didnt have a big selection for kids we were asked to fill out a questionaire and we mentioned this and within 2 days there was chicken nuggets, spagetti, pizza. It shows your opinion counts.

The pool was fab we never had trouble getting a bed. The animation team was great always trying to get everyone involved. Jaki was the best always happy and put a smile on our face but they were all good and work very hard.
You can use the pools in the Maharba hotels next to Tour one has water slides but we enjoyed this one.

The beach is lovely. Again no trouble getting a bed. They do have people selling things on the beach but they are not allowed up to the sun beds so no issues if you just want to relax. If you do want to buy something remember to barter you will get a good price.
We also did the paragliding it was great was 45dinar (£20 approx) for 2 people but well worth a go.

We also did 2 trips the pirate ship and the camel ride. We booked these with the guy at the side of the pool bar as they were a lot cheaper than the rep prices. Again remember to barter with them we paid 100 dinar approx £40 for all 6 of us.
I was sea sick on the ship but the kids and my husbnd loved it. The price included transport there 3 hours sail and food. You could even dive in.
The camel trip we didnt want to go on Smiley Miley asked us everyday for a weeks and after speaking to a few other families we decided to give it a go. It was the best out of the 2 trips. Just be aware if you have young children it is very hot and you are out for 3 hours in the direct sun so take a hat. You get food on this trip also. You stop in a little village and a lady makes fresh bread.

The entertainment at night was ok it was the animation team do a lot of this and really try their best. Get involved in the activities we did and was very fun.

All the hotel was very clean and all the staff were friendly. The staff on reception were misserable but you dont speak to them much.

The only big issue we had was the RUSSIANS. I have never met people who are so rude in my life, They push in all the time and i think the staff are to scared to say anything but get them told.

All in all great place and highly recommended

Room Tip: Best rooms are at the front of the hotel. There is a night club at the back so would be noisy

It was our 3rd trip to the Travel agents and after disagreeing on 20+ holiday destinations we were beginning to loose hope. Then the agent said what about Tunisia? Tour Khalef, 2 free child places left and at a reasonable price we snapped his hand off. Then we read the reviews and I was a bit put off to say the least. I needn't have worried though as it was absolutely amazing. There was just me, my fiance and our 3yr old son for 2 glorious weeks. Our son is a very fussy eater but found something every mealtime even if it was just pizza and chips followed by ice cream which was very yummy!! Everything was perfect, food, staff, cleanliness, entertainment was repetative but hillarious, drinks, (apart from poolside bar for lager as it was watered down). No one will believe me but even managed to find some lovely Russians!!! (A whole 5!!!) They were the only let down but would definitely come back again as you can ignore people!!!

went as a family of 3 plus 2 other familys of 4 so 11 in total and we all enjoyed.
the hotel well it should be higher than 3 and half star it was really nice and very clean.
on arival you have to book your table for evening meals and that table is yours then in either the 6.30 or 8pm sitting your choice food was very nice and non of us had any problems.

the pool was a tidy size and very clean but a little slippery around the edge of it, loads of free sun beds on offer without going down at the crack of dawn to get some, the Animation team were brill JAKI was our fav but they were all ace give the waiter a tip 1st day and they bring you drinks all day. the mahaba beach hotel right next door has water slides which you can use any time as well.

the beach was nice and all of 30 seconds from the pool again lots of free sun beds on offer and loads of water sports @ a very cheap price and there was a beach bar there too part of the all inc.

we went on the pirate ship trip and really enjoyed it and we went by the little raod trains to the aqua park which cost the 3 of us about 23 quid and once inside very cheap too coke fanta was like 50p beer £1 not alot of slides but enough and straight up and down no long waiting times loved the lazy river and wave pool too.

its werth paying for a sea view room too as it over looks the gardens the pool and sea well werth the ex 25 quid and to top it of they had a massive screen out side showing the euros at night.

the only bad thing was the russians very ruud and just push in front of cues all time and try avoiding leaving half drunk drinks around your sunbeds as the bees will soon show up.

all in all fantastic holiday and look forward to going back the tunisians were really nice people and the weather was amazing.

Room Tip: get a sea view room opening your balcony doors to the fantastic views is a perfect start to each day

Just returned from a week at the Tour Khalef. Great hotel with plenty to do. Animation team did a great job around the pool most of the day and the girls in the kids club kept the kids occupied. Sunbeds around the pool and on the beach were free of charge and there was no hassle getting a bed at most parts of the day, poolside staff were great.
Lots of activities going on at the beach as well, locals trying to sell there wares but didnt really pose a major problem!

Bar Staff and waiters were great, always willing to help and well deserved the tips they received.Good choices of All inclusive drinks, beer, vodka, brandy, gin, soft drinks, tea, coffee and hot chocolate.

Meal times- supposed to have table allocation but the russians didnt seem to grasp this and were always found sitting at others tables, drove the waiters mad and us at times. Would perhaps be better for the head waiter to allocate a table as you entered the dining room???

In general the hotel had lovely staff and was clean tidy and lots going on. We met some great people..hi Flinn and Gloria!!! and would go back again.

The downside to our holiday, apart from the rude, ignorant russian people were the last two nights when the open air rave started next door. The thudding music went on from midnight until 4 am with no let up and was extremely loud. Richard turned into the boyfriend form hell and ended up dragging his duvet into the bathroom and sleeping on the floor leaving me alone in the bedroom with toilet roll stuffed into each ear....still we didnt sleep!!! A number of others experienced the same problem and we were told that in high season this happens every night and not just the friday and saturdays...Good luck next week Flinn???

May be worth checking your room position when you get there..the hotel reception did offer to move us to another room.

Last but not least the Thompson rep Zak was great ,very knowlegeable as he is half tunisian and half English and lives there so any advise from him is good.

Room Tip: Make sure your room looks out over the pool or is the marahaba palace side to avoid the rave music.

We booked this hotel because of the price so were expecting a lot less than what we discovered. This hotel is fantastic and should be at least a 4 star.
we arrived in the morning and felt relaxed straight away. We booked a superior family room, there are 5 of us, and this room was huge, actually it was 2 rooms interconnecting.
The entertainment team were fantastic, they work hard for 10 hours a day. They are always playing with the children and getting adults involved with darts, archery, volley ball, aerobics etc.
The food was fine, many people have said differently on here but dont worry its completely good enough for my 2 fussy girls.Pancakes for breakfast every day or continental. Salad and fruit at every meal. Meat and veg or spaghetti or pizza and lots more.
The pool was never busy and beds always available.
The two neighbouring hotels let you use their pools, one has slides, but the Tour is the better hotel of the 3.
This hotel is spotlessly clean and the maids and gardeners work long hours to ensure its all perfect.
if you want to do trips, book with the 3 guys round the pool, fabulous value and much cheaper than the reps price. We went camel riding, quad biking and on the pirate ships ( with 3 children aged, 4, 7 and 13)
Overall this is the first hotel in 10 years that I would return to. Our neighbours are returning for the 4th time in October.
We have made some wonderful Tunisian friends. They are so friendly and always go the extra mile to make sure your happy.
The only negative was the Russians, they just treat life differently than the British. They dont smile, cue or say thank you. But they dont mind if you join in and push in front either, so we did.

Room Tip: WE STAYED IN BLOCK 3 LEVEL 5 ( 3505,3506) Lovely see view and away from the disco. this was a superi...

We moved here after a week in Houda golf in Skanes! ( don't go there!)
All staff were very friendly and helpful the animation team were great with the children.
This hotel is rated a 3*+ with thompson so we did not expect, beach towels hair dryers or a iron, although a fride would of been nice.
The food here was good always a good choice for most people, and the waitting staff were excellent our waiter was charlie and he was most welcoming everyday.
The beach is two mins walk and really is a great clean beach along with a bar for residents of the hotel.
Our room was a good size and very clean maids coming in every day.
Getting a sunbed was not a promblem for us and the pool side staff could not do enough to help you!
There were alot of russians here and I have never meet so rude pig headed peole but if you can over come that you will be fine here.
Overall we had a great stay here and would recomand this hotel to anyone.
