Arrived back yesterday and already looking at returning. Spent a week here which unfortunately for us was not quite enough. Went with my wife, daughter (20) her boyfriend (23) and our 8 month old granddaughter. We did spend the bulk of our holiday on the hotel complex which had plenty of pools, bars, restaurants and snack bars. The service was great, a few dinar tips here and there made a big difference. We had our own waiter in the restaurant who reserved the same table every day and ensured our glasses were never empty. The food was always freshly prepared and always plenty of it with a good variety to suit most people's needs. The animation team were always friendly and tried their best to entertain in their evening shows, we would recommend the fire show if you get the opportunity. The beach is kept as clean and tidy as possible in a country that still haven't quite grasped the concept of the litter bin and is worth spending time there if just for the water sports. Parasailing, jet skiing and water skiing 30 dinar (45 for 2 people) banana boat, rings, sofa and flying fish 15 dinar, and at 2.5 dinar to the pound that's £12 and £6 respectively, absolute bargain. We were taken around Sousse by a hotel guide for no more than a tip, recommended as he also helps with the haggling (firstly takes you to government shop to see rugs being made and local jewellery and leather goods, but are quite expensive). We took a taxi to port el kantoui for the day, there is a funfair (we never tried) and a small "zoo" a few birds, a camel and some goats but at 5 dinar(£2) it's worth a wander round. Just outside the hotel to the right is a souvenir shop with a boutique style shop of "genuine fake" designer clothes and just past is a bank with cash machine. To the left is a large 3 floored souvenir shop with lots of bargains and a great little engraving guy that costs peanuts to have your gifts personalised in both Arabic and English. A little further down the road is Casa del Gelato, the ice cream restaurant with great, cheap ice cream sundaes and proper coffee with the added bonus of free wifi access. All in all We loved the whole experience and highly recommend it for a cheaply priced African holiday with everything you need to make it as relaxing or as active as you would want.

Can't believe people's reviews on here raving about this hotel where to start 1.Food well the fruit and pancakes were nice most of the food was reheated gunge 2.Pools nice pools though the salt water ones were not the cleanest and woe betide if you didn't get up early for a sunbed (unless you tipped a lifeguard) 3.Entertainment awful unless you were female the shows of a night were of the lowest standard I have ever seen 4.Rooms basic but kept clean 5.Drink watered down shorts and the flattest lager I have ever tasted

I have never considered going back to somewhere I have already been as I feel there are far too many places to visit on the earth but my heart officially now belongs in Tunisia and more specifically with the animation team here who really made this the holiday I needed! I have been back less than a week but already looking at booking to go again as the only thing the animation team can't do for you is help you to adjust back to life in cold dreary England!
Would also recommend the camel caravan and friguiera park excursions!
A massive thank you to Mario, SAM, Bibo and Nino!

We were from 6 September to 16 September
One of the many positives of this holiday is the fact you can use all 3 of the hotel facilities, ie the pool and the bars, however you can only eat meals in your hotel.
The food was lovely and there were lots of choice. Freshly prepared meat every night cooked in front of your eyes, pasta, vegetables, soup, fruit, salad, the list is endless. .
The beach was nice:) the best part was the beach bar where you can also eat:)))Our room was adequate for the price we paid.
The maid service was excellent and the room was always cleaned to a very high standard. They put fresh towells down every day,if you leave a tip every day you will have beautifully :)
So in short, the people moaning obviously paid well over the odds, because for the price we paid this hotel was perfect!!!!!!!
The only thing we did not like, is that how we got there the room was not ready and we had to change it 3 times: (

Room Tip: Higher floors have less A/C unit noise" Room NR.420:)

Arrived back from a one week all inclusive stay at The Marhaba Salem on 27th September with my husband and 2 year old son…and we absolutely loved it!

Was bit worried when had read other reviews before we went and started to think had we made a mistake….but absolutely not, it was a great hotel, staff were AMAZING, great selection of food, really clean rooms, beautiful weather, what else do you need, it’s a 3 star, although I would easily say it could be a 4 star. Also we didn’t realise but there are 3 hotels on the complex so you can use all their facilities too, although you can only eat in your hotel restaurant – there are different coloured wristbands.

Food :
Breakfast – selections of Cereals, Jams, Yoghurts, Pastries, Croissants, Fresh Bread, Toast, Pancakes & Tunisian doughnuts (freshly made in front of you). Fruit – melons, grapes, apples, plums. Aswell as hot food – tomatoes, sausages (frankfurter type) scrambled eggs, omelettes (made in front of you with your choice of filling)
Lunch & Dinner – Salad bar with over 10 dishes to choose from. Fruit bar – melons, apples, plums, grapes. Dessert Bar – over 8 choices, homemade little cakes and pasties and tarts with creams and custards. Hot food – about 14 different dishes – chips, pizza, spaghetti, pasta, bolognaise, carbonara, potatoes, lasagne, vegetables, stuffed peppers, rice, cous cous, chicken, lamb, fish, and much more.
Drinks:
There is a drinks area where you can choose from Soft Drinks, Wine (although they didn’t have any red) Beer, Juices. Tea and Coffee at breakfast. Tea and Coffee was served in the indoor bar just outside after lunch and dinner.

For people to say there wasn’t enough to choose from or the food was poor is quite mindboggling!?

We always had a clean table to sit at, a couple of times there might not have been cutlery ready but there was always a waiter there within 2 minutes to lay fresh ones and napkins. Very attentive and didn’t at all feel like you had to tip them, only if you wanted to.

Rooms:
The maids did a fantastic job, they were so thorough, and so polite and smiley, always offering kisses to my son – think it was the blonde hair and blue eyes!
The rooms had everything you would need and enough storage. We requested a double room with cot space and ended up getting 4 singles, which was fine – there were cots available but as our son is fine in a bed we left as it was. There was plenty of storage – large 3 drawer chest, triple wardrobe, 2 bedside tables, dressing table, 3 mirrors. There was air con with 3 levels, little tip is to remove your key from your tag, leave the tag in the slot so the air con stays on so you come back to a lovely cool room!
Bathroom was good too, pretty powerful shower – constant pressure and water temp.

The maids always leave a lovely little touch – whether its making the towels into animals, folding pjs beautifully, or leaving flowers on the bed – nice to return to your room and wonder whats been left!

Even the public toilets thoroughout the hotel were always clean and smelt nice, with fresh flower displays.

Beach:
We did only go to the beach once – we’re more pool people especially with a 2 year old – sand & suncream does not mix! It did get quite busy down there unless you went down first thing – but if you just say to the lifeguard/beach man that you need a bed, he will hunt around and pull them into place and get you cushion matresses for them. There were about 4 different Tunisian people trying to sell you things but if you say no thanks and turn away they get the message, not pushy – theyre not allowed to come into the sunlounger area so maybe just don’t lie in the front row. There a few men trying to sell trips – donkey/camel rides, pirate ship, watersports etc – they sit near the lifeguard area so may hassle you a bit but they’re polite enough just say maybe tomorrow! There was quite a bit of seaweed, but they wok hard to remove it with a tractor first thing and rakes, it didn’t stop us going in the sea.

Pools:
There were 6 pools in the complex – the main pool is salt water – which did get a bit much for the eyes after a while – this is the one where they do all the water activities like water polo, aqua aerobics. They also have 3 slides in this one and one for children – they were great fun – although be careful my husband managed to cut his nose – but that was his fault trying to dive head first down the slide!? There is a great baby/toddler paddling pool which has shelter and a pool to the side – these are not salt water. There is another pool around the main bar area – which is where they do the evening entertainment. Then there is a small one at the back of the Royal Salem and an indoor one.

Staff:
I can not get over how friendly, smiley and helpful the staff were, definitely the best hotel ive stayed in for that. I did not come across anyone grumpy – although the entertainment manager should have tried to crack a smile once in a while especially considering how AMAZING the animation team are and how hard they work! There was a slightly snappy receptionist but that only really stood out cos everyone else was so lovely. The maids, waiters, bar staff, life guards and animation team were all GREAT! Alex, Adrionas (Willy) Sam, Manu, Bebo, Nino and Mario were all great – it is impossible to see them without a smile on their face and impossible not to smile when you see them – such lovely lovely people that work so ridiculously hard from 10am till 3am – with breaks! – they are definitely a massive part of the hotel that leave you with lovely memories from your holiday! Oh one more thing they shouted “Oh My God – Oh yyyyeaaaahhh” when they used to pass us so my son soon started copying them and shouting it out which was funny! Cant speak highly enough off the team!

Just arrived back yesterday from a 2 week stay at the Marhaba Salam with my husband. I was slightly worried about some of the comments from previous guests, but there was no need to be at all.

Food - Lovely always fresh and hot and I never once saw them run out of any of the food items. They had a fresh meat or fish on a carvery every night which was always delicious. Breakfast was also great, the pancakes were to die for.

Room - The rooms could possibly do with some attention but they were always clean. I was slightly worried about the theft that some people had mentioned but we didnt hear of any cases of this whilst we were there. Just one thing to look for though the maids do tend to leave your patio door open when they have cleaned the room. Not a major problem if like us you are on the 3rd floor, but I would be slighly worried if I was on the lower floors.

Staff - I have never met such lovely people as Tunisians. They are always smiling and extremely friendly. I dont think its fair that people say they are just after tips this is entirely not the case. Yes we did tip some of the waiters but to be honest even the ones you didnt tip couldnt do enough for you. The animation team were fantastic always happy and worked some very long hours. Look out for Sam, hes the mad one - to be honest though you will probably hear him long before you see him!!!, but he really got people involved.

Beach - Yes the beach does have a problem with Seaweed but I would certainly not describe it as filthy. The beach itself was always really clean. As with the seaweed people were there clearing it every day and it never stopped us going in the sea.

In all I would go back to this hotel anytime, having stayed in Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico and Dominican this was definately my favourite. Really cant understand people complaining abut the hotel, I think some people just arent happy unless they are moaning!!!
