I stayed in this hotel for 10 days. We didn't like bungalow we got, so we asked for the room in the main buliding, which was good. Food was tasty, but not various. Beach is very nice. Hotel has big and beautiful garden. Stuff is ok, most of them are very friendly and kind. All in all, it was ok, but I wouldn't go back here.

I came for one week, jan 2013, I didnt look for luxury. just wanted to be quiet, comfortable, swim and relax. The hotel is one of the oldest, dirtiest I ever saw! and i live in Tunisia and i work in Tourism!!! In the restaurant the cats eat directly from the buffet. There is NO heating in all the hotel, even the pool you can use, if your strong! no heating for the water eather! Not one smiling face, director not available.. next morning I checked out as quickly as I could! I spent a great relaxing week in Vincci Kantaoui Center. I found all that i needed and more!!
The Hill Diar needs a big big make over and an other director to have a chance on the market! No good idea for the moment

Room Tip: choose a room in another hotel

Stayed at the Hill Diar for 10 days from Oct 10 2012, the only possitive from the experience was
the maid who was fantastic and kept our room very clean. The rest of the staff have not grasped exactly what "ALL INCLUSIVE" is they must think it's free...beer is served in small plastic water drinking cups unless you ask for a glass which again will be the smallest they can find. You are only allowed to use one bar for all inclusive drinks, only rose wine is available which again will be served in a plastic cup, The food is very poor, the best meal was always breakfast. Do yourself a favour....avoid at all costs!!!!!!!!!

I've stayed in Tunisia many times and even have Tunisian clients. I can tell you, Tunisian hotels are not known for their luxury. The Hill Diar in Sousse claims three stars but, after a week there on half board in August 2012 with Turtess, it's difficult to figure out what they were awarded for. The restaurant serves the most appalling rubbish. We resorted to eating water melon in an evening and tomato salad in the morning. The rooms were dirty and in poor repair, the staff were slow and full of promises they had no intention of keeping. "Sorry the room's not been cleaned, sir," said one of the over-stressed receptionists when we also reported a basin that didn't drain. "If you go out and enjoy yourself, we'll move everything to a new room for you." We returned at 8pm to find they hadn't. The new receptionist knew nothing about it but eventually found us a new room. We moved our own bags. The following morning, we were back at reception: "The drain is blocked, the shower is broken, the bath is blocked and the air conditioning doesn't work." Rather than send someone from maintenance, they offered a second change of room - and the same story: "You go out and enjoy yourself, we'll move everything to a new room for you." Returning late, we asked which room we were in this time but nothing had been changed. Eventually, a runner was found and handed a bunch of room keys by the receptionist with an instruction to try each and find out which one had been cleaned and was fit for occupancy. The runner returned: none of them were fit for occupancy. Another bunch of keys was handed over and the runner dutifully went off to try rooms on the 'luxury' third floor. Half an hour later he returned. Deep joy! He'd found one. Hastily, we packed and moved for a third time. All seemed well - the beds had been changed, there wasn't sand on the floor from the previous occupant and the air conditioning worked. Bliss! But sadly, all was not well. The following morning, with wifey in the shower, I leaned gently on the basin as I brushed my teeth. Horror, of horrors! In slow motion, it left its loosely-screwed plugs in the wall and descended to the floor. With water spraying everywhere, it smashed to a thousand pieces! We'd asked to see the elusive hotel manager on several previous occasions; our morning visit to reception finally elicited an appearance from the duty manager who, through a translator, apologised and presented us with a full board bracelet so we could now enjoy lunch in the restaurant we'd already vowed never to dine in again! The holiday was most enjoyable with excellent trips to Carthage, the ruins of El Djem, camel-riding, a fishing trip (the boat broke down at sea and we had to be rescued but it was fun), visits to the caves and the site where an episode of Star Wars was filmed, and a fun afternoon off-roading in the southern Sahara. Tunisia is a wonderful country and it's well worth seeing. However, if you want any semblance of comfort, go for a four star hotel - and whatever you do, avoid the Hill diar in Sousse! It's truly the bottom of the pile!

Room Tip: There appear to be two grades of room. If you specify a 'luxury' room, you get slightly bett...

We stayed at the Hill Diar hotel from 8th-15th July for a week with 2 parties.

On arrival at 3am in the morning, we were kept waiting with no info while the receptionist tried to find us both a room, we were checked in to room 233 which was disgusting, dirty, conjoining door was broken and was open so anyone could come in and smelt musty, the other party were checkd into a bungalow which on arrival was not clean and the porter had to mop the floor and take out the rubish before the other party were allowed into the dirty room, we were advised by the old man on reception we would be moved first thing in the morning as he was leaving a note for the morning team.

Morning came and went to reception to be told we could not be moved until the following day as no message had been left! also we found out the air con was turned off from 4am to 3pm in the day (peak time), there was also no aircon in any other part of the hotel, not even in the reception.
We were ready to check out of the hotel, but the reservations manager ensured that we would be moved the following day to a better room, so we stayed to see if this would be any better.

We were moved into a better room, still not great and very tired and shabby, but there was a tv (which are only in half of the rooms), no fridge in any of the rooms, but all in all it was 100 times better than room 233.

Meals in the hotel are disgusting and we ate out most mornings and evenings, you had to fight for glasses/cups and plates and then people would try and argue with you if you had more than one, food was bland and inedible and you were lucky if you found somewhere to sit to eat. No waiters, so bring your own drinks to the restaurant.

Its a shame as the hotel has such potential and is only a few in Sousse which is located directly on the beach without crossing a busy road, the beach bar is nice as it is located right on the beach and the grounds and bungalows could be better if they were maintained/cleaned and had aircon all day.

I contracted a tummy bug on the 2nd day of our stay, which im sure was caught from the restaurant food which i had eated on the first day.

Tunisia is lovely and my husband is Tunisian. We have been several time and stayed in amazing hotels, in my opinion stay in either 4* or 5* hotels as they are on a different scale to this one, which in my opinion should only be a 2* in its current situation.

Please book somewhere else, Tej Marhaba or Marhaba Palace are miles better.

Room Tip: Stay in the main building as the bungalws are like ovens with no aircon during the day.

I was very happy with all aspects of this hotel. The room was spacious, the bed very comfortable, the cleanliness very good and the maids kept the room very clean and tidy. The food was simple but sufficient and the overall service was very good. Mohamed the manager was very attentive at all times to the standards and always made a point of asking you if everything was satisfactory. I consider this hotel excellent value for money. One has to remember "you get what you pay for". I will certainly go back if circumstances permit.
