Rupar Mandalar Resort
Ranked #4 of 112 Hotels in Mandalay
Certificate of Excellence

The Rupar Mandalar Resort is a beautiful, quiet resort just outside of the busy hub bub of Mandalay. The staff are excellent and the room we stayed in was simply beautiful. Our room was a room with the porch outside looking at the entrance driveway to the main lobby. The hotel itself is wonderfully quiet at night. Our group found the food at the hotel to be quiet good. There have been some comments about the puppet show each night. While the show may not have been my favourite item each night at dinner, I did appreciate the work and effort of the performers. If we wanted a bit less show, we just eat further back from the show and conversed during dinner. The staff could not do enough for you. Laundry dropped off in the morning would be back by early afternoon. Cost was very reasonable too. Wifi was free in he lobby and some of the closer rooms where the signal would reach.

We had to leave the Rupar on our last night for the Mandalay Hill in the city. In comparison, the Mandalay Hill was fine, but charmless. Any high rise Miami hotel would be the same. BUT BEWARE: we went to the Mandalay Hill in early December when the moon festival was on. The monks chanted on loud speakers ALL NIGHT. This apparently goes on for about a week at a time. The Rupar Mandalar was beautiful, food was great and staff very helpful. It was wonderfully quiet at night. A great sleep to get you on your way in the morning.

Room Tip: We had a room with a porch that overlooked the gardens and entrance driveway. Nice big room all in...

A nice hotel. Our room ("007") was large, clean and well-appointed, although the bathroom was a little poky. We had been a little worried when we checked in, because there is building work on site, as they're extending the hotel, but the building work was well-managed, and wasn't obtrusive. Nice large, clean, pool area but no pool bar. If you want a drink you have to go and find the (often quite elusive) staff. Breakfasts were a little chaotic - the food was good, but there weren't enough tables for the number of guests!
One evening we watched a puppet and dance show put on by the hotel, which was a lot of fun - particularly the xyophone player, who occasionally managed to hold a tune or rhythm for all of 10 seconds!
The hotel is a little out of the town.

On the plus side: the property is lovely, the rooms are large and well-appointed, and the free 15 minute foot massage offered to each guest is a welcome touch. Now the negatives: the hotel is located in a somewhat random neighborhood a 15 minute taxi ride from the city center; there is ongoing construction as the hotel builds a new wing; and the pool area was completely overrun by about 25 local children and teenagers the day that we were there. As other reviewers have noted, the hotel allows non-guests to use the pool for a fee; given the popularity of this activity, the managers might want to considering limiting the pool hours for non-guests and/or limiting the number of non-guests that can use the facilitity at any one time so that hotel guests can also enjoy the pool area. The hotel also would benefit from better anti-Mosquito measures; one of our rooms was filled with both live and dead Mosquitos and the outside restaurant/bar area is situated on top of a pool of stagnant water.

The hotel located out of town but as they provide as Dance/Puppet show nightly for a few days stay you are entertained.
The rooms as spread out over very nice landscaped gardens, with a very large pool area.
Rooms spotless and large.

Anyone who would want a hotel in the heart of the city of Mandalay needs their head examined. There is nothing exotic or, to say the least, pleasant about Mandalay. It is a crowded, bustling, noisy and unkempt city. Therefore, being a bit removed from the centre of the city, the Rupar Mandalay, for the two nights we spent there, was a godsend. We stayed in the family suite, which to our surprise was humongous beyond our wildest expectations; an anteroom, living room with a bar and fridge and 3 large bedrooms. All of the rooms panelled and floored in teak. Our bed was the largest I have ever slept in. The grounds and the pool are gorgeous and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet was good - not outstanding. The room service we ordered was disappointing but it was probably a mistake to order pizza in Myanmar. They are constructing a new wing so there is some unobtrusive noise during the day. We had a lovely stay and would not hesitate to stay there again.

We stayed one night on Jan 26,2013 and this was one of the worst hotel experiences i have had in my many years of travelling in Asia. We had a confirmed prepaid reservation for a deluxe room and on check in we were taken to a tiny closet like room in which the bed hardly even fit. We spoke to the manager on duty and were told absolutely no other rooms were available. After 15 minutes we again called him and he moved us to a regular room which was bigger but very noisy as it was on the main road.We settled down and went to dinner. We ordered Thai food which was bland and tasteless. Then on our return to the room the worst part of this stay happened. At turndown service the housekeeper took the wet dirty towels which were crumpled on the floor and folded them and put it back on the rack.We called the manager again and explained how unsanitary and unhealthy this was. Again like with the room he was arrogant and nasty and really did not care. To further insult me he offered to take 10% off my dinner bill. We told him it was one of the dirtiest experiences ever experienced in a hotel but he did not care or even apologize.Lastly as other reviews have said sleep was not possible as the pillows were rock hard.

We stayed there for 3 nights early March. The hotel is certainly a boutique hotel and a good one (less than 30 rooms). The location is at the outskirts of Mandalay (10 minutes' drive from down town) so if you don’t have a guide and a driver it's a bit far to get there, though the advantage is that the surrounding is quite and it's all surrounded by beautiful and large garden ( in any case, down town Mandalay is not a great place to spend the evening in). Rooms are all wood, very nice and well equipped. Hotel staff are helpful polite and friendly. Rooms are clean and the breakfast buffet near the swimming pool is good, as well as the dinner.
At the beginning we received the villa which was specious and very beautiful but it had 2 beds instead of one king size, so at the second night, upon our request they moved us to a king size bed which was nice but not as nice and as specious as the villa.
The overall review is- Yes! Good hotel, good atmosphere and a good relaxation after a busy day in Mandalay.
