“Palace”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2014

Nearly in the middle of the town you will find the Palace. There is only one gate open for foreign visitors where you have to buy your 10000 kyat ticket per person valid for the next three days for the rest of all your visits in town. arround the palace runs a wide canal as they told me for about 7 miles arround.Inside you find the home of lots of military families who live inside the compound. The Palace it self is not realy what i expect to see,.
All the the rooms or hall ar empty, dark and dirty so there is nothing to see except maybee if your intrested in the construction.

“Fit for a queen”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

Surrounded by a moat, there are over a 100 buildings, many which are carved and adorned to please the royals of ancient Burma. Apparently 4,000 jewels have been 'lost' to unknown persons which highlights just how beautiful and important this palace was. The carved interiors are a delight and you will enjoy just wandering and imagining the past. Myanmar is filled brimfull of such rich heritage and art but this beautiful palace is definitely a must-see for any visitor to Mandalay.

“Boring”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2014

I love cultural and historical sites, but this was just disappointing.

The grounds are in great disrepair and there is an air of neglect and a real staleness and a lack of authentic feeling. This is a rebuild, and we read that it was under forced labour terms. There is a weird feeling here.

I wouldn't recommend it. There is very little in Mandalay to do as it is so perhaps go as "something to pass the time" as we did, otherwise, it is over rated.

“Must See”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

If you can look past the people trying to sell you things, thus is a great site to visit. Take your shoes with you if you don't want to pay 1000 ($1au) to leave them at the entrance.
