The hotel is calm, the staff was very friendly
Five minutes away from the touristic center
No breakfeast and very weak WIFI signal
Try to call to ask them to pick me up at the airport but I could not join them

This is a nice little guest house with possibly the best location in Luang Prabang. Rooms are large and very clean if a little spartan. There were no televisions in the rooms. Bathrooms are also big. But the location is the real draw. The monks' morning Tak Bat takes place right outside the door (literally). So if you're a late riser (6.30AM) you can catch the end of the Tak Bat as the monks silently walk past the guest house. If you get up early, you can get to the beginning of the daily procession (a block and a half way) and see the beginning of the morning ritual and go back to guest house for the end of the procession. The free wifi worked well for me.

We stayed at this guest house for 5 nights and while we had a comfortable, clean room, and found the location to be very good, we were put off by the lack of staff around. We rarely saw any staff at all. When I tracked down someone to ask for a map, their English was not very good, and they didn't have any maps. The absence of welcoming, involved staff to answer our questions or to offer recommendations which is what we normally experience in a guest house was a real negative. It was a shame, because the guest house itself is lovely, with loads of character and beautiful wood finishes, but without the human touch, it left us cold.

Located on a quiet street and quite central to the night market and sites like Wat Xieng Tong, the houses are traditionally styled and kept very clean with a nice balcony that gives a great view of the morning alms rounds of the local monks. The rooms are pleasant, but simply furnished with larger than usual bathrooms. There are two buildings, an older and newer on opposite corners of the same intersection. There is no breakfast, but just across the street is a good place for any meal and it is a short stroll to other fantastic food options and bakeries. The managers are pleasant and helpful. All in all, a very good mid-range choice.

Room Tip: Try for a room in the new building, upstairs and on either end. (the middle rooms are smaller)

Ammata guesthouse is a plain , clean guesthouse on a quiet street along which the local monks walk early in the morning receiving alms and food.
The guesthouse does not include breakfast, but there are good local spots to get that , especially the nearby french bakery cafe.
The rooms are clean, adequately furnished and quiet. But do not include a fridge.
The staff are helpful and there is WiFi and a computer in the small lobby that guests can use.
Bicycles can be rented by the guests and there are many areas to visit by bike.
Altogether a pleasant but not luxurious guesthouse which I stayed in 3years ago and was happy to return and stay again recently .

Room Tip: Ask for the front facing room upstairs

The rooms at Ammata are quite adequate for a mid-range guesthouse. Clean. Comfortable bed. Staff are friendly, but English is limited-to-moderate. The best thing with Ammata is the location - on the monks' alms route, but a quiet part of the route where locals giving alms outnumber the tourists watching. If you want to give food to the monks, ask at the restaurant on the opposite corner from Ammata - they do high quality sticky rice and will also give you a mat and cushion to kneel on. Wifi is quite slow.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms in Building 2 share a great balcony.

This is a lovely old house, with incredible polished woodwork throughout (at least where we were). We had a large room on the ground floor. Staff were very friendly. There are only a few facilities (a safe, laundry, coffee/tea, computer with broadband) but that is typical of the guesthouses here. The cost was reasonable - and much less than the Apsara, from where we had moved. A lovely little place.

Room Tip: the double bedded ground floor room is large and beautiful. no noise.
