Stayed in the 10 bed dorm. One of the worst ones I've ever slept in as it was extremely hot each night and the one fan in the room doesn't reach 50% of the beds.
Beds and pillows are very uncomfortable, old and dirty. My sheets were stained with blood.
Staff are lovely and friendly. Vibe is great.
Super cheap but you really do get what you pay for.

Lemon Laos Hostel (used to be spicylaos, they changed the name) is a great and cheap place (2$ a night in the dorm) for hanging out on the terrace with fellow backpackers and meeting up nice people. They also organize trips to the waterfall every day. The matresses are not the most comfortable in the world and it's basic but I loved staying there and finding my place in the backpacker's community in luang prabang :)

It really seems like a backpackers' mecca, but has enough space to host lonesome souls as well. Free wi-fi, a few big (up to 10 people) and a few smaller (3 people) dormitories without doors, but lockers are available. Fans in every room. You have to get outside the house to get a shower, but the toilets and showers are surprisingly clean for the price. The staff is really nice - the owner's son was having a birthday party the day I came and everyone was invited.

Spicy Lao (now officially Lemon Lao) is without a doubt the best backpackers in Luang Prabang. The World-Heritage listed building has several dorms with fan/air con options and the place has the classic friendly sociable backpacker buzz that so few places truly create. The owners offer all transport/sightseeing/food & drink/laundry services at competitive rates and are more than willing to go out their way to help you out such as a loft to the bus station. This is a fantastic place to meet people and have fun in Laos.

The hostel was a bit hit and miss on the social vibe, but given, this could have just been a timing thing. Probably best suited to the fresh out of school type travelling with a group of friends.

The facilities are less than desirable (not clean) but bearable. Uncomfortable beds and no mosquito nets. Since this is the cheapest hostel around, you get what you expect.

Good points? Internet was free and worked in most locations of the hostel and the laundry service was quick and cheap! Having a pool table will always win me over.

Loads of dorm rooms with loads of beds. The only good thing about the beds is that they are built-in beds with plenty of space so you don't hit your head when you sit up. But the matresses are old and uncomfortable and the rooms are so hot it's almost unbearable, despite all the fans.
The food in this place is not good, although cheap, and it's difficult to know who to order from as it seems that no staff here speaks English or wants to speak to you. There's 1 nice guy here, the rest (whoever they all are) are rude. It's quite ironic as it's written on the walls how this place is "your family", when it seems they are all family and you're intruding in their house.
