Stayed here for about a week in May 2013. We managed to get one of the newly fitted private rooms which was huge! Didn't get to see any of the dorm rooms so cant comment on them but if you want a large double room for a relatively cheap price and still be able to chill out with the drunken backpackers then this place is perfect. Staff were friendly, the baby was cute but watch out cos he likes to pinch! The only problem we had here was when our lock broke on our room and we were unable to get in. This issue was fixed promptly and a new lock was fitted within the hour.

I've been meaning to write a review for this hostel for sometime. I stayed here for around a week, after having stayed in SpicyLaos in Vang Vieng. At both the Spicy Laos hostels there was always a great vibe and atmosphere. I had a dorm room here, sharing with around 5 others. Very central located. Staff are very helpful and friendly, free internet is available and breakfast.

Would go back there again.
Thanks SpicyLaos :)

My experience at Spicy Laos may differ from others, but I have never ever had such an amazing time at any other hostel. Everyone was so unbelievably friendly and we all spent a lot of time together on the balcony playing games, cooking and eating, drinking etc. Such a sociable atmosphere. The staff get involved sometimes and are helpful when needed but generally do their own thing. It's cheap and in terms of comfort it's nothing special, but the building is beautiful - old and wonky! The staff organise daily trips and parties, there is a movie room, table tennis, pool and food available any time. It's also close to all the amenities in Luang Prabang (THE best city in Laos!)

Although the accommodation itself is basic, the atmosphere of this place more than compensates for that. The owners are a lovely Laotian family who really create a great vibe in the hostel. They even had a free noodle party while I was there! They organise trips to the waterfall (a must-see) and it's a great chilled-out place. The location is good and central, and you can go with the owner to the alms-giving and the market in the morning if you wish. I met a lot of fellow backpackers here and had such fun in the common areas. I would definitely recommend this place if you want to have fun and meet people.

My boyfriend and I booked in at Lemon Laos after reading many reviews saying that it may not be the most posh place, but a good cheap backpacker central--sounded good to us. We're all for cheap, moderate accommodation, but this was something else.
The beds are horribly uncomfortable, a wooden plank with a thin cushion on it, an one light blanket, which was not nearly enough given the cold temperatures and paper thin walls. I froze all night.
There are two female and two male toilets, clean-ish and passable, but awkward to get to.
The owner was extremely friendly and helpful, offering us a map to help get to the centre of the city (even though he told us we were on a different street that we were).
In short, yes it's cheap, and if that's your only criteria this might work for you. But you can find rooms in guesthouses for similar prices that are much, much better quality at a better location.
Would not recommend to anyone.

A family-run business, very cosy. Super chill, there was a nice fire pit where everyone hung out with at night with guitars and some people brought s'mores! Not too far from the main road. Cheap prices were a bonus. We went in December and the rooms were cold, but so was every other hostel we went to.

Stayed here for a couple nights with a big group. The dorm room was clean the laundry service okay and the fireplace is the place to be after Utopia! I really would recommend this place but I can't. During our 4 night stay in beginning of December each days were many robberies (in total I heard about 14 robberies of 100 usd each ) by cleaning ladies. They only steal money (not cameras or phones ) while you're sleeping or while you're gone... Please use the lockers with your own locker!!! The last day did a guy a test and left 5000 Kip in his wallet under his pillow... Of course gone... I saw the cleaning lady giving the walllet to the owner and after a hour the guy get his wallet back empty of the (always drunk) owner !!! The owner wouldn't call the police and said he didn't knew who stole it... And maybe the strange robbery effer was the same morning when the cleaning ladies stole tampons... Yes tampons... It were them for sure because she was the only one who get in the room while we were sitting outside for 20 minutes! Please owners and cleaning lady stop this... You would earn so much more money if you have a safe hostel! And please travelers dont go to this place!
