A very pleasant stay at Chanthavinh Resort and Spa! The view of Mekong River from the resort is surprisingly wonderful. Their staffs were very friendly and helpful which they are so attentive and took good care of their guests. The room is so spacious, very clean and comfortable in typical Laotian style. Their beautiful garden is also the highlight since I can relax in their peaceful garden with my book. The only access to the resort is by their own ferry which the resort provides a free shuttle bus to town as well as the ferry according to their timetable. Make sure you wake up early one morning for the morning alms!

I've been to LPQ many times and always stay at Chanthavinh. I have a pleasent stay and good time for all my stay. Staffs were really helpful and attentive with a friendly expression. The resort gives a good impression of Lao style in all wooden building. A panoramic view of Mekong River is a must for your stay to have breakfast and dinner at the terrace to enjoy the view. Also if you have time make sure you walk around the resort to Ban Chan (the pottery village) to see their life and making pots and ceramics. Even though the resort is situated on the other side of Mekong river which you have to take the resort's ferry to get there but it's really worth it!

I must say Chanthavinh is a great getaway if you're looking for a place to take a break from work.

The week of July 19 our organization held a training retreat at the Chanthavinh Resort.. We booked 18 rooms for six nights plus the conference centre. From the moment of our arrival the staff were efficient and friendly. The manager especially went out of his way to make sure that our retreat was a success. Participants arrived on different flights and the hotel met each flight. The accommodations were all clean and updated with many of the participants commenting on the quality of the rooms and setting. We also found the food at the hotel and the conference arrangements to be of the highest standard. The conference room was large, furnished nicely and had wireless Internet, a projector and microphones. The boat trip across the river was pleasant (however, the stairs were a bit of an excercise) and matched the retreat style of the session. The hotel was very flexible in arranging transport across the river for attendees when required. All in all it was an excellent experience and I would recommend this site for retreat style planning and training functions. The only issue I saw was the lack of a swimming pool.

I would also recommend this resort to those who want to relax in a quiet place on the river in a park-like setting. Ask for one of the Lao style houses. They are a real treat.

The Chanthavinh Resort is located across the Mekong River from Luang Prabang and about a 15 minute tuk tuk ride. The location is a bit of an issue as it costs money and it takes extra time to go to and from town and the hotel boat only goes across the Mekong 3 X per day otherwise you pay extra. When we were there ,there was plenty of noise as there were parties across the river that went on until 2:30 a.m. and during the day there was construction noise as they are building another 16 units. Otherwise, the staff are incredibly polite and helpful. The gardens are wonderful. The small village next door offers an opportunity to see how the local people live. The units themselves are clean, spacious and good quality.

Lovely place on the side of the Mekong river, reached by their own ferry.
Very kind and helpful staff and my villa was set in a beautiful garden setting.
On the minus side there are many many steps down to their ferry and indeed it is a mighty climb up to the resort which I at a very young 65 had to pause half way up to get my breath.
Laos is a poor country and on the Sunday I checked out there was a day long power cut which meant no water/shower/air con. Whats more of course no facility to pay by credit card.
It is quite normal for the whole of Luan Praban to be without power for a day and I eventually had to pay my bill in 3 different currencies. Had I insisted in paying by card, I dont know what would have happened.
I would certainly return to Luan Praban but would next time stay in the town itself with its many little guest houses.
The resort was 3/4 k out of town which gave it the advantage of sirenity but they had the builders in during my stay and it shattered the calm from 8 a.m to 8 p.m daily. But I still loved it
