we rent a motorcycle, and went there with a map and we found a nice place with a beautiful view from the top, the temple is very beautiful too, and the monks are available to talk about their lives and practice their english.

This is the attraction about Luang Prabang. View over the top is really beautiful and by chance you won't have too much people there to enjoy it peacefully.

We were out on a bike trip, on bikes we rented at the city. After a long and tiring ride all around the city outskirts we decided to halt at the Wat Pa Phon Phao which is around 10-15 minutes from the city centre. Situated slightly uphill , this place offers some fantastic view of the south-west fringes of the city. Beautiful temple with some impressive stone carvings. The garden all around the temple is nice and relaxing. We spent around 2 hours sitting at the garden. It wasn’t very crowded which is good for some peaceful time away from the city chaos. Recommended for some cozy moments.

This new temple has five levels, do not fail to climb right to the top. The 1st floor has paintings all round the walls - scenes from the life of the Buddha above and blood curdling visions of Taoist hells below. The second floor has wooden shutters at its windows and wooden doors to its balconies, from which spectacular views reveal themselves. Above this level, the windows provide no views but illuminate more and more extraordinary decorations. The third floor is a chapter house, and the fourth (a dome) and the fifth (a cupola) are glorious. If you are at the Wat at about 4:00 in the afternoon you will see and hear a great work on drum and cymbal.

I went there riding a bike (about 15-20 minutes) from the city centre. It is a nice ride. The temple is beautiful, located in the middle of a garden. It has a great view to the city, to the mountains and to That Chomsi.
