It is not one of the guest houses that you need touts to fill them in with people - once you get there you will probably stay.

They are located just opposite the Xieng Mouane temple (it can be seen from the windows of 1st floor rooms located above the lobby), they are run by a group of friendly and helpful local people and offer very nice rooms (clean, big beds, A/C, hot showers, big windows etc.) at very competitive prices.

Some bonuses:
- free bottled water
- complimentary lao tea in the lobby
- you can actually witness the morning alms ceremony from your windows

Highly recommended!

We stayed in Luang Prabang for six days, moving to the Xieng Mouane guesthouse on our third day because we were so unhappy at our previous hotel on the outskirts of town. Moving to this hotel completely transformed my experience of Luang Prabang, and made me wish we'd stayed here from the very beginning. We had two rooms, as we were traveling with a 3-year-old, an 11-month-old, and my 72-year-old father. The rooms were really comfortable, well-lit and clean, the showers hot, and best of all, they always had an electric kettle of hot water ready for you to make your own coffee or tea on demand. The staff were really helpful: they played with our children, called the airline to check our flight departure time, called us a tuk-tuk when we needed it, and even let us use a room downstairs to clean up before our evening flight after we'd checked out of our regular rooms. The wi-fi worked well and there was a fridge in each room. The location was great, as i could literally walk a block to the night market or to grab sandwiches for the family. The biggest thing for me about staying here was peace of mind: i didn't have to worry about whether my elderly father was comfortable or if he needed a hot drink. I didn't want to leave!

Room Tip: We liked our rooms on the second floor of the main building. They were quiet and overlooked the Wat Xieng Mouane.

I arrived in Luang Probang after 6 days on a bicycle in the north. I found the acoomodations to be most welcoming. While there were no special services, my room on the second floor was very clean, the bed extremely comfortable and the shower awter very warm. My room looked out on street level yet was not noisy. The main street is a short walk down a narrow street. The night market is very close.

Xieng Moung Guest House is situated in the heart of old Luang Prabang, opposite the temple of the same name and on a street that runs parallel to the main street for shopping and restaurants on one side, and the street next to the Mekong on the other side.

Our room was in an old colonial building that had lots of character, including shuttered windows and high ceilings. As an old building it did have a few creaky floorboards and the air-conditioning on its own without assistance from the fan wasn’t sufficient to cool the room (although we did stay there at the hottest time of the year). But there were other compensations that made this a good place to stay. For a start the room was spotlessly clean and new towels were provided every day. Guests also received two free bottles of water and could obtain more from the water dispenser in the reception area or the hot water flask (with tea making facilities) on our landing. In fact, the guest house was very well managed and the daily servicing of rooms was undertaken without prompting, unobtrusively and to a high standard.

The street on which the guest house is located is quiet despite its proximity to the busiest parts of the old town. There was some early morning noise from the temple opposite on “sin days” but for us this was one of the unique attractions of the guest house and of Luang Prabang.

just back home after 6days at xieng mouane. highly recommended for location, value for money & ambience. rooms are very clean with everything in good working order, great little balcony if u stay in rooms out the back. loved to hear the owner's son singing as he went about his work & the beautiful chanting & drumming from the temples opposite. The temple drums are in NO way annoying-quite the opposite. I'm very noise sensitive but this was a most serene & beautiful sound- enchanting. best location- 2 mins walk thru the temple to main street. Unless of course, you stop to talk to the monks.
nicer location than along Mekong & morning monk procession on the doorstep.
only 1 little grumble- bed far too hard for our Western bones but we did get used to it.
no breakfast but great choice of baguettes down the road.
