We arrived with a 2 night booking, stayed 3 nights and came back for another 3 nights. We spent 2 weeks in Laos and paid higher rates and lower rates. For $52/night it is worth every $. Yes you can pay less in Luang Prabang, but not for the high standard and location of Villa Chitdara.
First visit we had a corner room facing the road and watched the monks in the morning. 2nd visit we had a garden view. We enjoyed both and are indifferent which was "better".
Location is perfect. Close enough for a quick 5 minutes to be in the action of the Night market or a stroll along either river bank, yet tucked in a side street for peace and quiet.
Rooms are spotless and very comfortable with furnishings and extra's (shampoo, bottled water, mini bar, TV with English, in room free WIFI, etc).
Breakfast was tasty and ample featuring fresh fruits, juices, breads and made to order eggs.
Staff was helpful when asked. There was an English speaking attendant at the front desk most of the time. She had very good tips on what to see, where to get bus tickets. All the staff seemed happy and pleasant. We were made to feel welcomed which does add a star to any rating. Cheap and good laundry is across the street.
We would go back to Luang Prabang in a heartbeat. We would definetly stay at the Villa Chitdara.

I enjoyed my stay at Villa Chitdara. Room was clean and nicely decorated, comfy beds and AC worked well. I asked for a front view and got it. Staff very nice. Great location within walking distance of everything but slightly off centre for a bit of peace and quiet. I thought the breakfast wasn't great, and ate out after the first day. LP is expensive, but since there are so many guesthouses if I went again I might see if I could find a similar hotel at a slightly lower price.

We recently stayed at the Villa Chitdara Guesthouse for 3 nights in March 2012. Great place. Very clean with all the modern conveniences one might need. Location is tough to beat. Good sized room with nice bathrooms and great hot showers with lots of water pressure. The staff was very professional and courteous. Breakfast was simple and tasty. We had a second floor front facing room that suited us well. The garden was also very pleasant and made for a nice place to relax. I would recommend the Villa Chitdara to anyone looking for a good guesthouse in Luang Prabang.

We stayed three nights. Breakfast was better than described on other reviews, and you can request Laos noodle soups if you ask the night before. Breakfast is out on a covered veranda next to a pleasant and cool garden. Rooms were fine, large enough. Bed was good, air conditioning worked well. Location was very good, slightly to the east of the main tourist activity. Monks walked by every morning around 6:30 am to accept food offerings. People were friendly, but English is limited. French works much better. They met us at airport and picked us up. Room was held though they do not take deposits.

We'd agree with the positive comments about this guesthouse, the garden is pleasant, the rooms very clean and for us we thought the breakfast was good. We have few tips -
Do specify what room you want, we'd agree that the garden view is the best but ask for one of the upper rooms as the ground floor balconies have no daytime shade
While the hotel staff were helpful in phoning our next place to stay when we asked about hiring bikes we were told to look up the road – it is easy to organise bike hire etc in Luang Prabang but don't expect the hotel to suggest stuff for you to do, they are helpful when asked but not in anyway proactive but many may love this laid back style. Shame the garden does not have softer seating, if only the bag allowance would stretch to a sun lounger (maybe I need to go on some sad beach holiday to rest my big behind!).
