We had a splendid stay at Villa Maly. The place itself is beautiful and full of charm. It is located at walking distance from the center, places to visit, bars and restaurants. Far enough to avoid the noise but close enough to go out easily.
rooms are nicely decorated with an obvious feminine touch. Staff is helpful, friendly.
The swimming pool is just great.
this is really the place to stay at LP.

When you stay at nice boutique hotels, it turns you off to those large hotel chain hotels irrespective of how many stars they are. We stayed here 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, which had great personalized service, nicely kept and comfortable rooms, a really nice pool area, and yummy breakfast.

The hotel isn't right in town if you want to live right in the middle of everything, but it only a short 10 minute walk which was not a deal breaker for us, and the town is quite small and easy to get around in a tuk tuk or walking. The night bazaar is 10min walk away. Free airport pickup and drop off would have been nice if they offered it (they don't). Also, we found that many times, all the sun chairs would be full in the afternoons leaving people with no where to sit, so perhaps they could look at that.

We recommend staying here in this lovely town.

Dear YiliKR,

We first would like to thank you for your comments regarding your stay at Villa Maly.

We are pleased to learn that you enjoyed your stay in our hotel and appreciated our services. Indeed, we strive to make every guest’s stay at Villa Maly a satisfying and enjoyable experience.

We also have taken notice of your observations concerning the airport transfer and please be kindly advised that most of the hotels in Luang Prabang charge.

Regarding the sunbeds quantity around the pool, we do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you, as they are located all around the pool, and more sunbeds would not fit properly. However, on very few opportunities, they are all occupied during the year.

Best Regards

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this charming hotel. The rooms were stunning - comfortable and very well maintained, the surroundings were beautiful and quiet, the staff were very professional, friendly and accommodating. The swimming pool was definitely a highlight and it was open until late which was a nice treat after spending the day exploring Luang Prabang.
I would highly recommend Villa Maly to other travelers.

Great hotel in an excellent position.Management are helpful & the front desk has excellent English. We took our washing to the family across the road. Great fun seeing your underpants all hanging in the street! Laos New Year was noisy & kind of annoying being drenched continually, but hey, we were on holidays. Luang Prabang is rather special & worth a visit any time of the year.

Just back from our holiday in Luang Prabang. We really enjoyed our staying at villa Maly, classy hotel with plenty of old "charme".the property is very well kept, the bedding is good, breakfast delicious with quality products ,local fair trade honey and jams, good coffee and teas (they also cater green tea, additional good point for someone like me who doesn't drink black or coffee), plenty of fruits, crepes and savoury dishes like rice, eggs etc.you can also ask for omelets that are very good. A big thank you to Marie Helene who has well advise us on activities and restaurants and has help made our holiday even better. My husband and I will highly recommend villa Maly

The location is very good, just a 10-15 min walk to the city center and the night market. The service was satisfactory, they can help you arrange tours and acivities. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated. Breakfast is ok but there is not much option. Overall a very nice hotel but a bit expensive for this country.

Having been to LP a few times we deviated from our favourite hotel & tried this one as we had friends staying nearby.
To summarise, it's a perfectly ok choice but for the price there are better options in LP with exquisite rooms.

The good:
- it has a clean pool!
- gorgeous well maintained gardens,
- easy check inn & staff with a good level of English,
- a clean room with several sitting chairs & lots of light,
- expansive buffet breakfast, plentiful coffee refills. Do order an omelet - the one I had was delicious
- there are mosquito nets which are draped over the bed posts guaranteeing a mosquito free sleep. We didn't notice many Mosquitos at the hotel with the exception of dusk.

The average:
- there would have been a dozen sunbeds which was not sufficient for the number of guests. We were disappointed that we couldn't obtain a sunbed at times. Why not put sunbeds where you have a dining table setup?
- hotel restaurant food was average (actually my husband said his western sandwich was pretty good) and commanded high prices for Laos. I think places should be upfront and include taxes etc in the advertised rates.
- The ease at which you could order drinks from the pool varied tremendously with the bar been left unattended for large periods of time during our stay
We noticed other guests just buying beer & drinks at the local shop (even baguettes & a pizza) & drinking them by the pool so maybe we should have been more prepared like them ha
- No poolside bathroom and no bathroom at the restaurant - only one in the reception area - really?
- the room decor. When you arrive you are greeted by this beautiful wooden lobby. The rooms have exquisite furniture which is beautiful. But..I was so disappointed that every piece of timber in the room had been painted in colour (yes even the beams & floorboards). Combined with the hideous pink the room was painted it just ruined the room - I'm sure it had so much potential. The bathroom is pokey and very dark. My husband found it very difficult to even have enough light for shaving.
Why are there no proper pillows? And why is there no where to put your bathroom amenities in the shower? The turndown service consisted of putting brochures on our bed & leaving cheap candy. No quick room tidy up or emptying bathroom bins to be seen here.
- the rooms are noisy. We were woken up both nights by guests returning to their rooms and gossiping in the hall. We also heard noise from the pool. Perhaps if we had upgraded our room there might have been less rooms in the block.
- we called the hotel on the number on their website for several hours before we landed but no one answered. When we enquired about this on check in, all they said was 'we don't know'
- although not the hotels fault, the other guests ruined our stay. There was a particularly noisy group of young people who insisted on playing their own music loudly by the pool, swearing continuously, consuming the entire pool with their blow up floaties and making lots of noise in the corridor when they got back at night. A tricky one.

We're glad to have tried it but won't be returning for our next weekend trip
