I really liked this hotel. It was centrally located, the staff were very helpful and they spoke reasonable English. The night staff seem to spend their downtime studying and writing essays. The are keen to engage native English speakers as this helps them improve their language skills.
We chose two wooden rooms on the ground floor in what I assume was the old part of the hotel. The rooms are quite charming, and have a real Laos/ colonial French feeling.
The windows and doors had shutters and extremely efficient air-conditioning. After a hot day on the river or going to the caves it was a pleasure to close the shutters, have a warm shower and enjoy the air-conditioning in a darkened room.
Of special mention is the manager is Mr Yann. He engaged us soon after our arrival and made us feel very welcome.
I mentioned to him that I had not made ongoing flight bookings to Vientiane and back to Siem Reap. He accompanied me to his local travel agent (the White Elephant) in the main street.
He reminded the staff of various discounts that were available and made sure they were offered to me. It required a slight readjustment in our trave plans, but the air fare savings are considerable.
All in all, this was everything I required. Small enough tp establish some rapport with staff, and local knowledge freely given.More
