There are not enough superlatives to describe this hotel. Everything about it is perfect- the friendly, helpful staff; the delightful breakfast area and delicious food; the informative, welcoming host, Mr Urban; the heavenly location and of course the beautiful rooms. We stayed in room 27 towards the back of the property, which suited our desire for peace and tranquility. The verandah, overlooking banana trees, was the ideal place to sit and wile away an hour or two, before strolling along the river to eat. The recommendations on the excellent map, given at check in, are all worth a visit-you certainly won't go hungry in Luang Prabang! After six nights we really didn't want to leave and we are looking forward to returning in the future.

We stayed at the Mekong Riverview Hotel in the first week of September for three nights and were truly astounded by its quality of service and comfort. We stayed in a superior mekong river view room and enjoyed relaxing on our spacious balcony in the late afternoons after a day of exploring the temples, swimming in waterfalls, or mountain bking and elephant riding in the nearby countryside. The hotel is in a gorgeous part of town where the two rivers meet. So peaceful and quiet and while a decent (but pleasant) stroll to the centre, the hotel provided a free golf cart shuttle around town if you needed to get somewhere quickly. We were impressed by all the staff - their knowledge of Luang Prabang was extensive and not only were any requests immediately actioned but we frequently found our needs anticipated. We simply had a perfect four day weekend in Luang Prabang and it had a lot to do with staying at such a professional, atmospheric, welcoming hotel!

Room Tip: The extra dollars spent on a river view room were worth it!

This is a lovely hotel and we really enjoyed our stay there. The owner, Mr Urban, meets you when you check in and gives you all the information that you need for a perfect stay in Luang Prabang. He is incredibly knowledgable and his obvious love and enthusiasm for the town is infectious. Don't worry if you don't remember everything, he is around the hotel and the town all the time and is always ready to advise, as are all of his helpful and well-informed staff. The service is excellent and the experience for us was unbeatable. Mr Urban even gets his guests together every other evening for a wine reception, another personal touch which adds to the home-from-home, friendly feel of this hotel. Everything is good about the Mekong Riverview, but if I had to single out one thing I'd say the staff are the jewel in the crown - they are truly excellent.

Room Tip: Try to get a room over-looking the Mekong River - we sat on our balcony watching the sunsets, and it...

It is located in a quiet location with lovely views over the Mekong River 5 minutes from the central street. The rooms are very comfortable and have everything needed. Breakfast was fantastic with great fruits, breads and juices and your choice of cooked dishes.
The owner greeted all new guests by inviting them to join him for a glass of wine in the evening.
The next time we are in Luang Prabang, we will stay here again.

I stayed there 5 nights, and had a delightful stay.
But perfection started even before the stay: as I was due to arrive by bus, I was told that it was not possible to arrange a pick-up at the bus station, because of frequent bus delays. But I received a direction written in lao to give to taxi driver in order to arrive safely at the hotel.

The room, upstairs (Superior Mekong River View) was perfect, very large and comfortable double bed. The chairs outside the room under the veranda were perfect to enjoy a complimentary drink watching the rainfall ;-)

The staff is charming and very helpful.
I appreciated to be presented a map upon arrival, with a lot of information about places of interest in Luang Prabang. Note that this map is not a full of ads one, but a nice plain map, with street index. In every room there is also a very comprehensive home made book with lots of information about Luang Prabang and its area.

This hotel includes many things in the room rate. Some are quite usual (room safe is usual, but its super-king size is very unusual!), some are not like free airport transfers, free golf cart into the city (OK, the center is only 10-15 minutes walk, but sometimes you do not want to walk...), free beverages in the minibar (about 12 cans and 4 bottles of water in the minibar, filled every day).
I also appreciated that they proposed to a friend who didn't stay at the hotel to have the breakfast with me.
Everybody in this hotel is customer and service minded, not money-minded at all.
The owner is also very kind, greeting us every morning, having a chat and giving us valuable information.

I also can recommend the excursions they organise with known lao people. We had the Pak Ou caves cruise, only two of us on a boat with the captain, a full afternoon. The morning trip to Kuang Si falls is done with an english speaking driver, and a very comfortable and powerful minivan (again for two only). And these excursions are not expensive at all for the quality.

But avoid to go to Elephant Village (an excursion not organised by this hotel). This organisation is clearly mistreating its customers (see reports by Imacatrancher July 30, Sarah B August 26, and myself August 29, all of us victim of an accident on Elefant Village trip). The owner of the hotel was scandalised to hear how we were mistreated !

The place for breakfast, just along the river, is also delightful.
The location of the hotel is not in the touristic center of Luang Prabang, so the nights are very quiet. The location just next to Wat Xien Thong allows you to spend relaxing and meditating moments in this beautiful (the most beautiful) temple of Luang Prabang.

To summarise this report, I am just dreaming to come back there tomorrow !
Thanks a lot for these exclusive moments in Luang Prabang.
This hotel really deserves its #1 ranking.

I rarely give a 5-star rating to a hotel, but Mekong Riverview definitely deserves it, as well as its number one ranking on Tripadvisor for its superb service!

Both arrival and departure airport transfers are included in the room rate. Upon arrival, the owner himself gave me a helpful welcome orientation on Luang Prabang, and the free map even had their personal scribbled advice. It is not in the town center, but you have the river view. If you don't want to take the 10 to 15-minute walk to the town center, then you can ask them to drop you off in their golf cart for free.

As for the room, I got the Superior Suite Side View Room, and it was huge and tastefully decorated! I might have had just a fragment of a view of the Mekong River from my balcony, but then there will be no lack of it once you step onto the road beside it. The bed was soft (as well as the pillows), and my only complaint about it is there was a perceptible division into two. Since one side can be adjusted to go up or down, as a single occupant I am forced to stay on one side because of the slight indentation in the middle. But it is a minor quibble. The toilet is on one side while the bathroom is on the other, so I had to cross through the hallway to get to the other. But I did have a personal jacuzzi though! Most probably it was just me who didn't know how to get hot water there though. It has free wifi which goes down at times, and there free mini-bar is fully stored with softdrinks and bottled water.

Quite frankly, one of the reasons I chose this hotel was the rave reviews about the breakfast, and it was worth it! You can have the kitchen prepare fried rice, eggs (with ham, bacon and/or sausage), banana crepe (they call it "pancake") with vanilla or chocolate sauce, the "special" (caramelized banana and pineapple), and the fruit shakes (I had dragonfruit and green melon shakes, even though it was not in the menu). And you have that with a good view of the Mekong River.

But what I really like most about the hotel is their service. Everyone is friendly and helpful with genuine smiles. I highly recommend the Mekong Riverview Hotel.

The other reviews are right: this is an absolutely excellent hotel. We stayed for four nights in August 2012, and everything about the stay was perfect. Booking was easy and we had really good email advice from the hotel staff about the choice of rooms in advance of confirming our choice. We opted for a river facing junior suite, on the upper floor. This was exactly the right choice for us, as we used the balcony to sit and watch the world go by. The room was well designed and functional, with all the facilities needed for a very comfortable stay. The bed was, as everyone says, great. Breakfast was provided in a magical location, right on the banks of the Mekong River. The choice of food was really good, with hot choices cooked to order. But what sets this hotel apart from anywhere we have stayed was the quality of the staff and their willingness to be as helpful as possible in every single instance. This clearly comes from the owner, Mr Urban, for whom this hotel is clearly a labour of love. His wine receptions, held every other night, were lovely, honest occasions for travellers to meet and chat. He was always to be seen around the hote, or around town, and we were genuinely impressed with his commitment to running not simply a first class hotel, but also one that provides good employment and remuneration for its staff. His knowledge of the town was incredibly helpful, and his tips on where to eat, or what to visit, or where to shop were all, in our experience, absolutely accurate. Luang Prabang should not be rushed. The staff will willingly take you to dinner reservations or to temples in the hotel golf cart, which makes this hotel the perfect place to stay.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the upper floor, facing the Mekong River. The views are fantastic.
