We just got back from our trip to Thailand and Laos. One of the places we stayed was Amantaka in Luang Prabang. Great little "Unesco" town and Amantaka was an incredible place to stay. The General Manager, Gary is a world class host and the entire staff follow his lead and deliver a class of service that is beyond expectations!

Amantaka is certainly a jewel in the crown of lovely Luang Prabang. This historic, rather quiet( by Asian city standards), and well preserved city is a feast for the eyes. And Amantaka is the place to stay ...very well located, lovely rooms( we were upgraded so our experience was extra nice),mesmerizing evenings of lantern light and music, helpful and charming staff, and all very well overseen by Bernice. Make sure you seek her out. Also make sure you use AsiaDesk(USA) travel service as they provided us with a wonderful topnotch guide here and as well as in Cambodia. This city and this hotel was well worth the journey.

Spectacular resort, perfect for a long holiday. The Hotel has been thoughtfully redesigned from an old French Colonial Hospital. The rooms are adequate and worth the price, though we found the room-service slightly slow. For example the person who was supposed to receive us at Airport reached late by 30 minutes, during which we had to wait at the Airport lobby. The ambience at the Hotel is different from the more commercialized counterparts. The courtyard looks mesmerizing when the hundreds of paper lanterns are lighted up during the evening. The Hotel had a huge pool and equally vast green lawn which added to the beauty. Owing to the hugeness of the property the atmosphere in general is calm and peaceful.

The Amantaka has a perfect position in Luang Prabang just yards from the Night Market and as you would expect from an Aman hotel it is very well run and beautifully maintained. Our room had a private heated plunge pool but unfortunately the position meant that it did not get the sun that often.

It is a shame that the main pool was not heated as we were there during a cold spell.

Nice touches include the hotel's own Tuk Tuks.

They do however sometimes struggle with communication. The staff are very charming but do not always understand what you are saying. Hence we had a wake up call 35 minutes late one day and another day they failed to book the restaurant they said they had.

On the whole I would say that you should definitely stay at this hotel when in Luang Prabang but just have a little patience.

We also very much enjoyed our stay at Amantaka and for the same reasons as already so often mentioned by other reviewers. The room, food, location and, most of all, the staff, are terrific. I don’t feel a need to go into detail about these items as so many other reviewers have done such a nice job of that.

It is such an easy place to stay. There are no specific times for meals - just come when you are hungry. If you need laundry done just toss it in the hamper - no forms required. Housekeeping just knows when you are away to tend to your room. We wanted to send some purchases home to avoid carrying them - no problem, just drop them off and they shipped them back. For us everything was effortless. I'm sure it isn't effortless to create this environment but we sure enjoyed the fruits of their work.

Amantaka is a great hotel if you are looking for a sanctuary of luxury and quietness in Luang Prabang. The hotel is in the center of the city, and most other restaurants and city attractions are walking distance. The restaurant is very good, with a choice of Western and Laotian food. The service is excellent, and the spa is highly recommended as well. No TV in rooms, but wifi available everywhere. Note that the hotel offers several excursions with your own private guide and car, and these are very well organized and planned. We will definitely return there.
