“Too short a stay in Luang Prabang”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 April 2014

The Belle Rive is a boutique hotel that is really a combination of some charming heritage colonial houses, and it is well situated on the Mekong River. I found the Frangipani room very charming with the four poster bed with mosquito netting (although the room smelled slightly musty). Despite the hotel rooms opening right on the street, life in Luang Prabang is at a much slower pace than other Asian cities and I could not hear any motorcycle traffic or street noise unlike in other hotels elsewhere (the Luang Prabang curfew likely helped in that respect). The hotel terrace across the road where breakfast was served was incredibly peaceful, and I found it really relaxing to have breakfast or a glass of wine later in the day and watch the river. I enjoyed the Bircher Muesli and cappucino for breakfast although there are somewhat limited offerings at other times of the day. Hotel staff speak English and there were a few communication gaps from time to time, although they tried to be helpful. The charm of the hotel, however, won me over and I found Luang Prabang a very special place that I would love to come back to. If we had been there longer than two nights, my daughter and I would have used the hotel bicycles to ride around town. L.P. is relatively compact which makes it very easy to explore on foot and the hotel is well situated -- 10 min. from the night market, and close to restaurants (L' Elephant around the corner was very good) .There were many things about Luang Prabang that I loved - the night market, the monks collecting alms, the restaurants, the wats....so much to see in too short a visit. I was glad I stayed at the Belle Rive, although it is a little more expensive than hotels in most other cities. But the charm and sophistication of the Belle Rive and Luang Prabang will make you want to stay longer.

Room Tip: There are only about 8 rooms, and they open directly upon the street and Mekong River (they were for...

Luang Prabang is a remarkable place. I highly recommend it as a must visit destination if you happen to be in the area.

Recently, I got a chance to see the town and stayed at the Belle Rive. This property sits on a quiet corner of the peninsula facing the mighty Mekong and within close proximity of most points of interest in town. I booked one of the balcony maisonettes right on the second floor of the main building. It's a spacious dual level apartment-style room. The sitting area that leads out on to the balcony is on the main level while the sleeping loft sits right above. It's more than enough space for one and easily sleeps two. You may just want to watch it on the steps as I found it to be a tad slippery, at times.

I found some of the little perks charming -- bottled water and most soft drinks were free, plus there was usually fresh fruit and a times a snack placed in the room daily. A kettle was present in the room for on demand tea or coffee and though there wasn't a television in the room, I understand this can be delivered on request (should you need it). I enjoyed the quiet mornings on the balcony as the town woke up to their daily chores. It was blissfully relaxing to sit there, watching the Mekong, as the city went about its business.

Breakfast is enjoyed at the property's restaurant just across the street with unobstructed views of the Mekong. Take advantage of their free bicycle rental and pedal your way through the town - it's a fun ride.

Overall, enjoyed my stay.

Hotel has eight rooms and is on the Mekong. Eight distinct rooms. Breakfast is served, outside overlooking the river. Easy walking distance to all of old town. Associates speak English. Internet is poor.

Great location... just far enough down the peninsula to be quiet but not too far to walk to most everything. Very nice rooms, ours was on the first floor so we didn't deal with stairs. The hotel's restaurant across the road was very addictive. Once we got seated with a drink and started watching the traffic on the river, it was hard to get up.
We liked the staff; they tried hard to please even if their English wasn't the best . What we liked best about the staff was that when my wife left her pocketbook with a fair amount of cash at table while at dinner one night , it was waiting for us the next morning at the reception area.
All in all, a very classy place.

Two friends and I stayed here for four nights at the beginning of March 2014. A lovely boutique hotel beside the Mekong, very quiet at night, with beautifully furnished rooms and excellent breakfasts and meals beside the river. Quiet and attentive staff. The sort of hotel you always go back to if you are in the region. Not cheap, but excellent quality. The WiFi worked; a minor miracle in Laos.

Room Tip: Ask for ground floor if you have leg problems; some of the stairs are pretty steep, and there are no...

I stayed at this lovely hotel in February 2014 for 3 nights and can highly recommend it. The hotel is situated at a great location, minutes away from the "downtown" of old Luang Prabang and right on the banks of the Mekong. The hotel has plenty of charme and the rooms are well appointed. Staff is very helpful and attentive. I looked at some other places in Luang Prabang but think this is the best choice.

When I visited Laos in the summer with my girlfriend I boarded at this hotel. Excellent hospitality was provided by the caring hosts who were waiting for us once we arrived from the airport. Their friendly team of staff helped us in unloading the luggage and escorting us through the inside of the hotel. The hotel is a beautiful colonial style hotel in a perfect location within easy walking or bike (provided for free) ride distance to restaurants, night bazaar, temples, wine bars and other tourist attractions. Rooms are very well situated and it come fully prepared with 5 star amenities, the best part is the view with the serene river running beside it.
