“An excellent charming place”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

This lovely little gem is tucked away in an authentically local alley adjacent to the very lively market. The owner lady is very kind and helpful and she speaks English very well. The rooms are clean spotless, although just a bit too small, but the real big PLUS of the place is the very cosy outdoor veranda rich in plants and shade, where you can enjoy your take away from the market or just have a beer. Definitely recommend this place!!

Tephavong Guesthouse is just a skip away from all the markets, the Mekong river and the tuk tuk stations.
Rooms, although not huge are very comfortable, clean and have hooks, desk and a chair as well as hot showers in all rooms and flush toilets. Towels, TP and soap provided.
Housekeeping for rooms can be done upon request.
The owner Boonkurt is a kind man who is always available if you need something.
Cold water is always on tap and in the mornings, hot water with free coffee and tea are provided. There is also laundry, motorcycle and bike rental on site and decent WiFi in the spacious rustic garden type lounge.
Entrance may be hard to find.. Just walk down the soi across from the morning fresh market about 300 ft. There is a hair salon right across from the guesthouse.
Prices here can be negotiated.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to lounge will be more noisy but you will have better WiFi reception.

Outstanding cost benefit. Well located and offers a great outdoor area to rest and meet other travelers. Small but cozy/clean rooms. Not to mention the free coffee policy - loved it! Was crucial for making our stay in LP even nicer.

The couple who own it are very sweet and helpful. The beds were SOFT and comfortable. Rooms were clean and tidy. Main area was great place to chill out, with FREE drinking water and coffee in the morning. Also one of the cheapest guesthouses we could find and it was certainty a step above the rest. As well a great location, you cannot go wrong!!

We booked a double room for 2 nights initially and ended up staying 5 or 6. The guesthouse is in a fantastic location, only minutes from the night markets and bars/restaurants around that area. Family that own it are very sweet, quiet and friendly and very helpful at booking buses and tours for you, without forcing anything on you which we've come across more often than not. Clean rooms with a comfy bed and hot shower. Wifi not great but same as most places in Laos. Amazing communal area with free tea and coffee, great for meeting other travellers!

This guest house is located in a great location. Its just walking distance from the morning market, night market dozens of temples and restaurants. The GH had all the basic necessaries i needed ( Wifi, air conditioning, coffee, sandals, hot showers, soap & free bananas). It's very new and was very clean. I see many people are confused with the name but make sure you go to Oudomphong 1.

After a long day of traveling, we arrived in Luang Prabang without a reservation and headed to the city center to find a place to stay. After checking out two places on the waterfront which were way overpriced with mediocre rooms, we happened upon a little lived-in, full of personality side street just a minute from the river to find Oudomphong Guest House.

When I asked to see the rooms available, I didn't have high expectations after seeing the other guesthouses in the area. I was quoted a room of 150,000 kip a night--I checked out the room, and upon first glance it looked good and we decided to stay. But it wasn't until we put down our bags and had a moment to breathe that we realized how great this place where landed truly was. Calling this place a gem doesn't even capture how wonderful this place is or the amazing experience we had here.

Our room had a huge AND comfy, (did I say comfy?! a rare find!) king size bed--we had the best sleeps in Laos right here, the room was clean with a nice ambiance, had lovely views of the neighboring guesthouses, ...talk about amazing value!

On top of this, the family who owns and runs this establishment was incredibly friendly and helpful. We originally only intended to stay one night, but after one night, we didn't want to leave this place and decided to extend our stay by another day. We needed to change our flight to make this possible, and were concerned about the hassle of doing this, but one of the daughters let us use her phone and helped us out with the entire process. Talk about helpful!

Every time we left and came back to the guesthouse we were met with smiling faces, questions regarding whether we needed anything...on top of that, there was filtered water, coffee, tea, and bananas out and available to guests all day. We stayed at a lodging more than double the price when we first arrived in Luang Prabang, which didn't provide anything to its guests in terms of refreshments. This little personal touch was so nice and made us feel welcomed and refreshed after a day out and about and during our check-ins and rests during the afternoon.

The location of this place is perfect. Set back about a minute from the waterfront, the street feels real and lived in.

Our only regret is that we only stayed here for two nights! We would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is on a budget (or not!) and wants to have a great value for money comfortable stay with a memorable personal touch from the family who owns and runs the place.
