We didn't know about this place until we actually found it one day while walking around the Morning Market and liked it so much we decided to switch the next day and spent a couple of nights here..

We got a fan room which we didn't even use since it was just the beginning of the warm season...everything was clean although our room wasn't made everyday...bathrooms are good sized and everything worked well...WiFi available but you have to sit outside since reception is weak if you try using it in the room..staff are friendly and discreet...decent rates considering hotels in LP can get quite pricey...basically all the same positive things that have already been mentioned here.

Only suggestion I would give is that it would've been great if they offered bicycles but you can still rent them easily from one of the shops by the river (5-minute walk)..

Wouldn't doubt to stay here again and will recommend to friends/family..

This was our third visit to Luang Prabang in as many years but Lao Lu Lodge would have to be our best guesthouse experience so far.
Arriving by slow boat from Huay Xai via Pak Beng we were gratified to find that Lao Lu was only a short 5 minute walk away from the boat ramp, located on a small side street adjacent to the morning fresh food market (location hint: directly opposite Manichan Guesthouse).
From there it is only an equally short walk to the main street bustle, the night market, Mount Phousi and the plethora of restaurants and shops along the Mekong road.

Noticing our travel-worn condition the owner considerately ushered us straight to our room so we could relax, unwind, and do our formal check-in later. We stayed in a corner downstairs fan room (101) which had numerous mosquito screened windows opening up onto the immaculately maintained front and side gardens. For us this was a big plus because we like to have lots of fresh air and light in our rooms.

After experiencing a number of hard mattresses on our way from Chiang Mai the king-sized bed at Lao Lu was a blessed relief as was the beautifully appointed en suite bathroom. Seven blissful nights sleep ensued. It must be noted, though, that we personally don't mind the occasional cock crow and dog bark; we come to S.E. Asia to escape the incessant background drone of city life. Travelers who require a somewhat more sanitised experience should book a remote generic resort (or just stay home).

The staff at Lao Lu are friendly and helpful without being too intrusive. Room-cleaning and provision of toilet rolls, fresh towels, bedding, and bottled drinking water is available on demand rather than requiring the guest to vacate their room at a regular time each day. Another advantage, we think.

Breakfast is not included in the tariff however, a small set range is available from their own kitchen on request.

All in all, a blissful seven nights stay for barely more than AU 20.00 per night (we were given a 5% long-stay discount).

Stay there. You (and they) deserve it.

The owner speaks French and is very helpful and nice. The guest house is very well located between the Morning Market and the Mekong.
The only drawback is the quite noisy environment with barking dogs and morning market rumors.

We stayed at the Lao Lu Lodge twice on our trip through Laos - the first time rather by accident, the second time, because we liked it so much.

Lao Lu Lodge is located in a colonial style complex with light rooms, comfortable beds, pretty bathrooms with hot water. The river boats up and down the Mekong leave pretty much just down the street.

The staff was very friendly and helpful.

There was only one small shortcoming: The people in the neighbouring house and especially their animals (dog and chickens) woke us up every morning around 5 o'clock.

As I am writing this I have extended my stay at the Lao Lu four times. I came across the place from a review and found it by walking around asking people where it was. It is tucked in between the Mekong and the morning market and not touristy at all - and it doesn't have a website. The rooms are clean and beautifully decorated and the bathrooms are pristine with decorated ceramic sinks.
What is amazing about this place is the family feeling you encounter when walking in. You really feel right at home. I have never in my years of travel come across such a considerate warm couple as the owners of this place as well as the people working here and that transcends to the guesthouse. The French colonial style and the halls upstairs and downstairs plus the area in front of the reception makes it a perfect palace to hang out. Wi-Fi works well and if you need info on Laos or what to do and see the owners are happy to help. I will definitely come back and after a couple of weeks here I will be moved when it is time to say goodbye. Wish I could extend my stay once more...;-)
