Our four days in Luang Prabang were among the most memorable we have ever had, and the location of the Xieng Thong Palace at the quieter end of the old city, very near Wat Xieng Thong, made our stay perfect. Our suite on two floors was compact and restrained in decor, in keeping with the historic building which has actually been a royal residence. The service by the young staff was delightful, and the manager Guillermo was always around, being friendly and helpful. Breakfast overlooking the Mekong river was wonderful in content and situation, again with lovely service, and the final touch for me was traditional Lao music in the background. We used the hotel bikes one day, which are unusually made of bamboo. They proved quite an attraction as we toured across the Nam Khan river and the outer areas of Luang Prabang.
