Firstly, when reading the reviews please bear in mind there are two hotels with this name and some of the poorer reviews refer to the other hotel which is at Phoneheung..

There is nothing bad I can say about this place - this boutique hotel is well placed right by the night market and night food market and a good location for visiting the other sights here.

The rooms are all named after a sign of the zodiac and are really well decorated - there is free water and fruit provided every day -there is good Wi-fi and the showers are open planed which we loved.

The breakfast is provided downstairs at their bakery./cafe site and is fantastic with a variety to choose from - the muesli is exceptional also their cakes and coffee make a great afternoon treat.

The staff could not do anything more for you and are always happy and smiley - they will even teach you some Laos language too if you want.

There is also free hotel pick up and drop off

Was very sorry to leave...

Room Tip: The little stalls opposite the hotel prepare baguettes starting at just over $1 and for dinner the night food market has plates starting again at just over $1 - great value and good fun mixing with other travelers..

We stayed at Ancient Luangprabang - Phoneheung for 10 days in the king room that consists of 2 balconies and a jacuzzi. The room was clean, spacious and the staff were attentive. The breakfast is a little average however there is a French patisserie around the corner that did the job. Location is fairly quiet (15 mins walk to city centre) and the monks walk past every for 'tak bat' which is lovely to see or be part of.

If you are heading there during low season, you may find you have more variety to choose from and more competitive prices. I thought Ancient LPB was slightly over priced. Otherwise, book early during high season so you're not disappointed.

I love the fact that they dont have room numbers, but rather little animals to show you which room is yours. Staff is so friendly and helpful and wants to do everything and more for you. Rooms are bright, clean and beautiful. Open bathrooms make traveling with friends of opposite sex a bit tricky, we had the rule that the person not showering was not allowed to peek, but had to watch tv, play on computer, or be outside. It worked for us.
Breakfast choices are great. Free car service to airport or bus station. Good working wi-fi. Loved it there!

When I checked in, they required that I pay for 4 nights in advance. I have never experienced this. The rooms are nice enough and you can't beat the location but they didn't tell me that they would be doing construction during my stay. I wanted to leave but they acted like they didn't understand. After complaining, they promised that construction would only be from 10 until 4. Sure enough bang bang and power drilling bright and early in the morning. The alley next to the hotel has some loud scraping and something going on in the mornings as well. At $60 a night, even with a discount for off season to make it $45, this was really lame. The place has a lot of attitude as well once you seem disappointed. Look at my other reviews, I am easy to please. Avoid this place and get a cheaper and quieter place anywhere else near the night market. There are dozens of quaint and cheaper places.

Room Tip: I suppose you should not pay in advance. Also, there are two Ancient Hotels...the other one might be ok. Don't know.

This is our first visit to Laos. Our travel agent book the room for us. We stayed in Ancient Luang Prabang for 3 nights, we stayed in Cow room. the location accessible to everything, it is near the Phousi Hill, temples and next to the night market. The noise is bearable, anyway one will not go to bed very early specially if they are on holiday, night market close until 10 PM.
The room is not big, not small either, simple decoration and comfortable bed. Open shower room (not really a shower room), its a little bathtub where you stand and take a shower :).
The breakfast is ok. can't say anything much about the breakfast. The staffs are very friendly and very helpful.
