“Upscale on a small scale”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 November 2013 via mobile

Le Sen: lovely English speaking front desk staff; food excellent. Small scale but upscale. Located a bit out of the city center which we preferred. The hotel offers shuttle service to the post office (located right at the night market) or you can walk yourself in 15 minutes time. They have an excellent gym and the pool is good for a dip and short laps. For spa treatments, they have arrangements with three different outside vendors at varying price points. They arranged 'Banana Boat' tour to Pac Ou caves for us which was excellent as well. If your plan is to sit by a pool all day in the sun, ask for a ground floor room so you have a sun lounger. Rooms on second floor have reading chairs but no sun lounger.
(We are a family with older children but lots of couples and solo travelers here as well.)

A group of 14 spent 4 nights at Le Sen Boutique Hotel in late September. Excellent!!! The facilities, location and staff were all fantasti.. The pool and surroundings were clean and well maintained. The shuttle Bus service to the main post in Luang Prabang was very good, the staff were very obliging and ran us into town when we asked. The rooms were modern and very clean. All the buildings and grounds were very well maintained. The service is excellent – the staff were friendly and well trained. Breakfast was very good and the selection varied which was a great bonus.

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground could be a bit noisy as the pool is very close to your room

This is an excellent hotel that is clean, safe, and well run. It is a 15 minute walk away from the hustle and bustle of Luang Prabang but there is a good bus shuttle service that the hotel runs for its guests. Being out of the throng of things is a plus: the hotel is quiet and a genuine retreat. Everything works and is much cleaner and more modern than most hotels in Laos. LP is a great town to spend a few days in. Worth doing the rounds with the agencies and spending a day combining waterfalls, elephants and caves.

Room Tip: Get a room that is on the first floor. The pool is in the middle of the hotel and having people swi...

I stayed for three nights in June and enjoyed this stylish boutique hotel. Good value for money and a little off the main stip of town, it offers a quieter experience in a beautifully designed setting.
The staff are friendly, although English is limited.
The breakfast was wonderful, I tried almost everything!
The rooms were wonderfully designed, the pool a cool relief, and the gym pretty impressive for such a small property.
I would definitely recommend and stay here again!

I stayed at Le Sen the weekend of October 2-5. I was there for the Luang Prabang 1/2 Marathon and traveled with a friend. The hotel is brand new, rooms are spacious and very comfortable, bathrooms super nice. The breakfast was really nice every morning and we had lunch one day there before we left and the food was amazing! wish we had eaten there more. The hotel is set a little bit out of town but not too far (tuk tuks are not cheap in LP (not like thailand or Cambodia) the cost in and out of town was about $7USD each way and it's a 3-5 minute ride. We were quoted many different prices so it was never consistent and it's per person not per ride...just a tip) Overall an excellent staff and wonderful place to stay. Great value!

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely - maybe a bottom floor room closer to the restaurant will give you chairs t...

I really enjoyed my stay at Le Sen. It was relaxing and very satisfying.

There are not a lot of negatives but the two main downsides to this wonderful hotel are the location and the breakfast. It's located away from the sights and night market. A free shuttle bus service was offered and that helped a lot. It'll drop you off at the Post Office right next to the night market on the main street. As long as you aren't picky about waiting for and taking a shuttle bus at designated times, the location issue isn't a big deal.

The breakfast however, could be much improved. There weren't many options available. There was an egg and fresh noodle station but not much else, only a handful of fruit plates and pastries. However, the breakfast area was shady, not hot and relaxing to be at every morning.

On the other hand, the gym was fantastic and honestly, its rather difficult to find a gym of this standard in Luang Prabang. If you're a fitness buff who loves to work out, this is probably the best hotel gym (for this price range) in Luang Prabang. No questions about that. If working out every day matters to you, you will thoroughly enjoy the small but well equipped gym here. There's a Smith machine and even a free weight Olympic Barbell.

We stayed in a suite room and enjoyed the jacuzzi bathtub in the room. Take note that the Suite and Villa rooms are right next to the breakfast/dining area so you will hear some noise in the morning. Not a problem if you are an early waker. In any case, the noise is minimal. Also, the suite rooms are located on the second floor so that's a bonus.... you won't hear anyone walking around above you.

There are black-out curtains so they do keep the room nice and dark. Sound-proofing wasn't too bad. You could definitely hear other guests at the pool and sometimes your neighbors but generally, its much better than expected. When it gets dark, the hotel gets really quiet and is very conducive to sleep.

The service was excellent. Shuttle bus drivers were polite at all times. Front desk people as well. It's nice to see smiling faces when you walk around the place!

Room Tip: Suite rooms come with a nice jacuzzi bathtub for relaxing soaks after a long day out!
