“Lovely hotel and wonderful staff”
Reviewed 25 April 2012

My fiance and I spent a week at the downstairs rooms of apsara hotel, we had a great stay. From the friendly staff to great room, we were not disappointed. The location is also great too, very huge bathroom and delicious food. The hotel has arrangements with tuktuk drivers which ensure you get a good deal on trips to the temples or just around town.
I would highly, highly recommend this hotel to anybody travelling to Siem Reap, it's a warm, welcoming paradise for travellers.

What a disappointment. We had read such great things about the Apsara, but were shocked to see what our money bought. Having just paid $70/night for an outstanding hotel in Hanoi, we were amazed to find that $130 at the Apsara didn't buy us much (and in fact the room was of a lower standard). We rented bikes for $5, but immediately returned them as the brakes were worn and unlubricated (we rented much better bikes elsewhere in town for half the cost). The manager couldn't answer simple questions about opening times or locations of tourist sights. The breakfast was pretty simple, and one morning we weren't even offered the menu but were just given what we had eaten the previous day. We didn't have working air conditioning. The room had no luxury extras, such as a fruit bowl. Baffled as to where our money was going, we moved to a much simpler guesthouse on the other side of the peninsular overlooking the Mekong. It was a third of the cost, and far better value for money. Think twice about booking this.

We spent 4 nights here and loved every minute. We had an upstairs room overlooking the Nam Khan river with a tiny balcony but big enough to sit on and watch the world go by. The room was spacious ,and well eqipped with everything we needed including hair dryer and safe and very comfortable. There is also free wi-fi in the rooms. What mkes this hotel stand out is the excellent service given by every member of staff - nothing was too much trouble - we asked for towels to go swimming - they appeared neatly packed in a bag, The staff remembered how we liked our drinks made and our breakfast eggs cooked - that's service and, no, we weren't the only guests! We liked the fact that although the restaurant is excellent they recommended other restaurants appreciating that tourists like to explore.
Back to the food - worh the trip to eat one of their omelettes for breakfast! We also had dinner and again we were not disappointed - excellent meal.
The location is perfect - approximately 2 minutes from the main high street - we found Luang Prabang to be a very safe place - we wandered everywhere both during the day and in the evening.

We've been here twice before and our third visit was just as good. We stayed seven nights which just about says it all. Rooms are chic and comfortable. Bathroom have lovely showers. The room price includes breakfast which is very memorable -warm lightly toasted baguettes, home made jams, Lao coffee and eggs if you want them. The service is first class. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone.

We stayed at the Apsara for 4 nights in a standard upstairs room and we were very happy with our stay. The rooms were lovely and the breakfast that was included was delicious.

The location was great as it only took 5 minutes to walk to the main street and markets. The staff were all very professional and helpful.

The only negative comment I can give is that the air conditioning was a little noisy at night and the floor boards were quite slippery but neither of these issues effected our stay in the slightest bit.

I would highly recommend this hotel to others.

One of our favorite hotels during our nine week journey thru SEAsia. It was a gem. The lobby /restaurant was filled with good modern art, Asian lighting, 1940's jazz and swing music. It had a lovely east meets west lounge aura. Our room was large with a comfortable bed, and splendid view of the Nam Khan river.
Breakfast was ordered off a menu and had the best omelette, Masala with tomatoes, onions, mile chiles and vaguely Indian spice.

Room Tip: Get a room on the second floor with river view.

We stayed at the Apsara over Chinese New Year and loved it. I must say that the photos don't do it justice. I was pleasantly surprised by our room which was a downstairs standard room. As a lot of the reviews mention already - the bed was amazing! The bathroom was also really great.

The staff were lovely and attentive. It was the kind of place where you could just sit around the lobby or balcony reading a book all day long. The breakfasts were excellent and I love that they were served until midday. We also had a very nice dinner at the hotel sitting by the riverside. Try the fish for two!

I also really liked the location on the Nam Khan river. It was much nicer than the Mekong river side of town.

Our room was really great value for money and I have very few complaints, but if I were to critique the hotel I would say:
1. Being on street level we couldn't really open our doors and windows as there was no privacy, so the room was fairly dark. It was also quite noisy during the day, but it was quiet at night.
2. There was no swimming pool, but we knew this before we booked. It would have been nice to have a pool, especially as Luang Prabang is a quiet, sleepy town conducive to relaxing. One day my boyfriend and I went rented bicycles and rode to the pool at the Kiridara hotel, which is open to the public for $5. I would definitely recommend doing this. We were thinking about staying at the Kiridara, but having seen the rooms, we were very glad we chose the Apsara instead. The Kiridara was nice, but it definitely wasn't worth the price - it was almost 3 times the price of the Apsara.

Room Tip: The downstairs rooms lack privacy. If possible, choose an upstairs standard room

The first and still one of the most beautiful boutique hotels in Luang Prabang, the Apsara was originally a rice warehouse situated on the banks of the Nam Khan [The quieter side of town]. The Apsara is also right in the heart of the heritage village, making it the perfect place to stay. From the comfort of its large, airy bedrooms, rated by the Washington Post as "an inch beyond decadence", it's easy to explore temples and the lanes of Luang Prabang. After which you can relax on the river terrace and enjoy the spectacular views and a refreshing Beer Laos. But that's not all, our restaurant is well known for having one of the most interesting menus in town as well as a superb wine list and the driest martinis in Laos. As Hip Hotels said "Both the restaurant and bar reflect a refined sense of taste" and who are we to argue with that. ... more   less
