“A slice of paradise”

We stayed for only 3 nights but would have loved to have stayed longer. The hotel was utterly charming - beautiful location overlooking the river, large and quiet room and staff who genuinely enjoyed making our stay memorable.

Room Tip: First floor rooms have a balcony and river view.

The Apsara is great. Clean, spacious and comfortable. It is an extremely attractive hotel which is well located. Breakfast was great. They kept our bags for us whilst we were on an overnight trek and we felt that our belongings were safe throughout our stay. The in room info pack was really helpful.

Our first trip to Laos and a wonderful place to start. Luang Prabang is pure magic, and this hotel added to the experience. Clean and stylish rooms in a quiet location that is still close enough to all the action. The balcony was perfect. The locks on the door could be made to feel a bit more secure, but no issues on that front. Staff were helpful and friendly. In room safe was great to have. When we return to LP in the future this will be our hotel choice without a second thought.

For our first hotel in Laos, we couldn't have made a better choice. The Apsara is wonderfully located overlooking the river and just far enough away from the center to be quiet. The rooms are spacious and well appointed with comfortable beds and beautiful linen. The bathroom was huge with a great rainwater shower and good pressure. Staff at the Apsara cannot be faulted, they really did look after us. The restaurant is also highly recommended eating on the veranda was one of our most pleasant experiences. Overall this is a hotel with considerable style. We loved Luang Prabang and will come back again to the Apsara.

Our first visit to Laos and we would go back here in a heartbeat. Staff was friendly and helpful in every way. The location is perfect and LP is small enough to walk almost everywhere in the old city from the hotel. Our room was on the front and overlooked the river with a narrow terrace. Bedding was high quality, rooms and lobby were beautifully furnished and food was great.

This place is a total winner!

It just doesn't get any better. the setting is beautiful, overlooking the Nam Khan River with excellent inside decor and ambiance, especially with the sounds of lounge jazz wafting onto the veranda. The Service was excellent (a special shout out to Tom who was faultless and made us feel truly pampered - thanks), and foodwise, the celeriac soup and salad were both great, and the buffalo fillet with peppercorn sauce and chips was faultess. The wine list is also great, with some acceptable cheaper wines or the more pricey yet excellent extravagant ones. We visited twice in 3 days as it was just that good.

Room Tip: Try the buffalo fillet with peppercorn sauce, it's amazing. Look out for Tom (waiter), as he...

Every year I come back to Laos, some years twice, and I start or end my trip with a few days in Luang Prabang and to me that is synonymous with a stay in The Apsara Hotel. With my friend I stay in one of the superior upstairs rooms, when I am alone, a standard rooms fits my not so modest requirements perfectly. I tried them all.
Don't expect roomy hallways or spacious corridors. It is an old building, not an ugly high rise. The rooms are spacious enough and the bathrooms clean, in good working order and of a good size.
If you like to have lunch or dine in, the restaurant provides good Lao and french fare. The wine list is very ok. And they serve a good cup of tea and excellent (Lao) coffee.
The staff is welcoming and nice. Sometime wifi does not work. But hell, it's Laos. What do you expect?

Room Tip: Quality is high overall, upstairs superiors are very nice and that reflects in the price you pay.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The first and still one of the most beautiful boutique hotels in Luang Prabang, the Apsara was originally a rice warehouse situated on the banks of the Nam Khan [The quieter side of town]. The Apsara is also right in the heart of the heritage village, making it the perfect place to stay. From the comfort of its large, airy bedrooms, rated by the Washington Post as "an inch beyond decadence", it's easy to explore temples and the lanes of Luang Prabang. After which you can relax on the river terrace and enjoy the spectacular views and a refreshing Beer Laos. But that's not all, our restaurant is well known for having one of the most interesting menus in town as well as a superb wine list and the driest martinis in Laos. As Hip Hotels said "Both the restaurant and bar reflect a refined sense of taste" and who are we to argue with that. ... more   less
