“A nice birthday treat”
Reviewed 22 December 2010

Although this hotel was a bit out of my budget, I thought it was worth every extra kip (Lao currency). The location is superb - a quiet area along the river near the old city center. The rooms are spacious, clean and very comfortable. But above all else, I was overwhelmed by the gracious hospitality of the staff. Traveling alone on my birthday, two of the hotel staff actually took me out to dinner, and one asked me to join his family for the annual boat races in a nearby village. It was one of my most-memorable birthdays ever! Please do consider this place if your budget will allow. You won't regret it!

Well decorated, with reach detaills, The Apsara was a good place to arrive after a long drive from Vientiane. The room was confortable and special the bed (not to hard, not to soft). The location of the hotel (near a street) is not the best for the sleep quality (some noise from cars and motorbykes).

Breakfast could improve.

Overall it was a good experience.

This hotel is in the best location. When we arrived in Luang Prabang we thought the town was the most tranquil, idyllic, serene place but we had not driven through the centre of town yet. We were located only 2 minutes from the main street which we discovered the next day would have been very noisy to stay on. Many of the hotels and guest houses are located here. The day in Luang Prabang starts very early and when you are on a break from your young children the last thing you want is to be having a bad nights sleep and getting woken up early. Saying that the roosters did start their cock-a-doodle-dooing very early but I don't think you can avoid this. The beds were fantastic. The rooms were lovely with a nice big bathroom and very clean and tasteful decor. Staff were also very helpful. Great value for money. What a lucky find! this hotel also has a more upmarket location called Apsara Rive Droite which is located directly opposite over the river. It is beautiful and probably better suited to couples after more romantic accomodation.

We stayed at the hotel for fours days. Very lovely staff and courteous, they always kept the smile forward guests. The room was nice and comfortable. The breakfasts were enjoyable with fresh fruit. We were realley pleasant staying there and would recommend to our friends.

The staff was very courteous. The room was decent sized. Bathroom was large, with nice rain shower. The best part of the room was the bed. The most comfortable I have slept in in Asia. Location is nice, one block off the main strip. Also had free wifi and breakfast, which was nice (coffee/tea, bread with local jams, eggs, fruit). Hotel also arranged my pickup to/from airport, and some sightseeing excursions. Overall, I had a nice stay and I would repeat.

I really enjoyed Luang Prabang as a destination and much of that was due to The Apsara. The staff were so friendly and accommodating and the food at the restaurant was excellent. We stayed in a room at street level which was really big but I would have preferred a room upstairs overlooking the street and river. The bathroom needed a bit of a reno but that's being picky. The only other minor issue was they didn't have a room with twin beds so we had to flip a coin for who got the four poster double and who ended up on the small single cot...

The Apsara is very good value: the rooms are good size, confortable and very clean. The reception works in the same room with the restaurant, bar and living room. Its is pleasent to stay in this room reading a magazine, drinking the excelente limejuices and seeing the city passing by and hearing the Nam Khan river flowing.
It is just 50 metres from the most sophisticated area of Luang Prabang's main street, where you can find some of the best restaurants (3 Nagas), caffes, shops (Caruso, Naga creation, etc), alms giving in the morning and some of the most exquisite temples in LP. Definitely a great location for living the city. The decoration is nice, but to get amazed visit the Apsara Rive droite (same owners) on the opposite margin of the river. The service is excellent (we were having a light meal at rive droite and the staff just put the bill in our room account on The Apsara when realized we were staying there - perhaps a small detail but shows interest on making things very simple for customers).

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The first and still one of the most beautiful boutique hotels in Luang Prabang, the Apsara was originally a rice warehouse situated on the banks of the Nam Khan [The quieter side of town]. The Apsara is also right in the heart of the heritage village, making it the perfect place to stay. From the comfort of its large, airy bedrooms, rated by the Washington Post as "an inch beyond decadence", it's easy to explore temples and the lanes of Luang Prabang. After which you can relax on the river terrace and enjoy the spectacular views and a refreshing Beer Laos. But that's not all, our restaurant is well known for having one of the most interesting menus in town as well as a superb wine list and the driest martinis in Laos. As Hip Hotels said "Both the restaurant and bar reflect a refined sense of taste" and who are we to argue with that. ... more   less
