Must do in Luang Prabang !
The view from the top is amazing and worse the climb to the summit.
There is also a cave to visit on your way up (it's closed after sunnet).

More to see on climb up from south side than I expected - Budha's footprint etc. Excellent views over Mekong and mountains, sort of 360 if you walk around a bit. Popular sunset location - good for people watching

As other reviewers have mentioned, after paying the entrance fee to climb the steps to the view, the first thing you come to is a vendor selling tiny traps containing live birds (the cages are only just bigger than the sparrows inside them). It disgusted me so much to see the birds desperately trying to peck their way in the searing heat of the day and it ruined my enjoyment of the view. Tourists can buy these and set the birds free...that's if they manage to do so before the birds die of shock or dehydration. And so the cycle of cruelty and trapping will continue as long as tourists continue to hand over their money. I would urge everyone to please refrain from buying these traps, as this is the only way to stop this kind of cruel practice. I just wish I had known what I would have to witness before paying to go up the hill. Buddhism is supposed to be largely about kindness to animals!
