Large selection of wood pieces beautifully carved by Laotian artisans. Multi-colored woods --blond, dark red, brown, black--make these unique. Prices from $25-$5,000 reflect the size and quality of each piece. Staff friendly and multi-lingual, and they put the pieces in bubble wrap for safety. Credit cards accepted, will charge 3% fee unless you ask for waiver.

This gallery has the finest works of art and household goods that we saw throughout Luang Prabang. There are wonderful bamboo and rosewood objects (bowls, vases, serving pieces, trays, chairs), textile items (pillows, scarves, blankets), all artfully displayed. There were many different size Buddha statues carved in various types of wood. I purchased a rosewood Buddha, which the gallery artfully packed for me to take home on my flight. THey also ship, but the salesperson priced the shipping for me (which was over $300 for a statue about a foot tall) and assured me they could properly pack it, and they did. THey also kindly packed another decorative object that I had bought on the street and both arrived from Luang Prabang to New York in excellent condition.
The prices at this gallery are as extraordinary as the art -- not for the faint of heart. The salesperson pointed out some of the hallmarks of superior quality of these pieces compared to what is commonly found throughout Luang Prabang, and I agreed that the quality of these pieces was far superior. One of differences the salesperson touted was that the piece was signed by the artist and that I would recieve a certificate of authenticity identifying the artist. When I got home and unpackaged it all, I was very disappointed that the certificate just generically referenced teh types of works sold by the gallery, and stated that the piece was made by "a Lao Craftsman." Hardly the proper certificate I was promised! I will be following up with the gallery to try to secure the proper paperwork based upon the signature on the base of the statue. Let's hope for the best -- will update if I get anywhere with this.

Woody was delightful to work with. Tastefully displayed exquisite Lao textiles and unusual very high quality, hand carved wood pieces you will treasure and you will use if you care for them. If you want inexpensive, go to the night market. If you want one of a kind, true treasure pieces that help Lao artisans, come to Caruso Lao.

As soon as you enter the store you know that your a up for a treat. Every single piece is so beautifully made with huge attention for details. They use different types of wood, with different shades, making every single piece unique.
I highly recommend a visit there. You will see things that you won't see anywhere else.

The elaborate design and work of these precious wood pieces and handwoven silk patterns belong to the finest in Southeast Asia. They combine traditional skill with today's sophisticated demands, hence represent a way to guarantee work for locals in modern times. They are in this way, of course, unique to Laos, that is why one should not leave the country without having a look to Caruso shops, even if one does not decide to buy. We do have already a small collection, among which our elefant family still likes some members. An exquisite shop is in Luang Prabang, and some representations in Vientiane, where also the factory can be visited to see work in processes.
