“A real gem”
Reviewed 24 January 2014

Stayed at the Villa Maydou in January. Initially booked a room for two nights but the moment I checked in to my room it was clear to me: I need to extend my stay for at least one more day.

I had a very lovely room with access to the nice garden. The garden was more than lovely.

The hotel is just next to a temple (Vat Meuanna) which gives it this special touch.

Albeit the hotel is not in the city center, they more than helpful and friendly staff provide all guests with bicycles and the ride from the hotel to the town takes not more than 10 minutes.

Riding with a bicycle around Luang Prabang is probably the best idea.

If you stay at the Villa Maydou you will feel like in a different world. The hotel matches the wonderful city of Luang Prabang: out of this world, peaceful, charming and endearing.

Helpful staff as we were travelling with 3 month baby. We had planned a 3 night stay, and were allocated rooms together on the upper floor of one of the two converted original Lao houses that comprise the hotel. This would have been perfect if there had not been a 3 day/night Basi in the temple next door. The hotel were understanding of our need to move hotel and allowed us to pay for the one night. The rooms had adjoining bathrooms and we enjoyed having a hot bath. There were no drink facilities in the rooms, but small fridges. The hotel is a 10/15 minute walk to the main attractions, or bicycles are available.

The hotel is located between a pagoda and the nam khane river, 5 mn by bicycle to town . The buildings are in the typical architectural style of Luang Prabang , in a charming garden . I travelled with my sons (8 and 12), they also love the place as they can play and run in the garden.
The breakfast is delicious with fresh juice and French bread, croissant . You can also order an American breakfast with eggs or an Asian breakfast with fried rice or pho the noodle soup. The staff is very kind , and the owners will give you advices for tours or restaurants . You will be able to enjoy the new swimming pool in a few months. Will go back again next year

Stayed 3 nights in this hotel and really enjoyed it.
Rocked to sleep by chanting monks and sqicky old floors, it felt very authentic and special. The days were spiced up by the idea of coming back to the hotel. Breakfast was basic but pleasantly served and the staff was friendly. We used bicycles provided by the hotel to visit the town. Very much enjoyable stay.

The hotel is far away from the city center. Consists of several buildings, in part in renovation - there was noise ; located next to a monastery.
The the room is nice but not fancy. The blanket was dirty and when we have asked to replace it we were told by the receptionist that the keys of the linen store with the owner and he is not there. He didn’t arrived to open the warehouse; we slept with only a sheet and were freezing cold. We have not received any compensation for this night.
The breakfast was basic: every morning we have to ask for products, not offered voluntarily. Was not value for money.
