Stayed 4 nights at Maydou. Great place. The hotel is next to a Wat (pagoda) 5 minutes from the center, in a "local" neighbourhood.
Great rooms, really beautifully appointed, lots of wood, traditional wood floors (which means they creak a bit but that is part of the local habitat). Bathtubs in the bathroom for those who want to relax a bit.
The swimming pool is green but don't think it is mold, it is simply that the ceramic is green! The water is salt controlled with minimum chlorine.
The staff is Lao! that means nice! The owners are always there to help you, including the young son of the owners who speaks french and lao and other languages.
The hotel staff can organize for you various excursions around LP and on the Mekong, with integrity. They can also direct you to some very very good restaurants in town, low to high price, whatever you are looking for.
The breakfast is great with fresh croissants and bread and homemade jam.
Some guests have written that it is "far from the center". With the free bicycles, it is about 5 minutes pedaling and I walked from the boat landing on the Mekong all the way back to the hotel, about 20 minutes walk.
Great experience. Would definitely go back. In the high end of the LP hotel offer, if you exclude the 700 dollars a night hotel (s?).More
