“Nice room, great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 November 2013 via mobile

We stayed at the Lotus Villa for the last two days. The room we had was great. No tv, but beautiful wood walls and a nice balcony. Our room had A/C, and a very soft and nice bed. The hotel is very close to the Meekong and just 5 minutes from the main way and the tourist area. There were lots of cool shops to explore. We would highly recommend.

Dear Mike K,

It's so nice to hear that you were so pleased with your stay here at Lotus Villa. Thank you! We are indeed fortunate to be able to offer our guests such a marvelous location, and delighted you enjoyed the room too.

Your comment about our being "TV-free" is most helpful, as it gives us the opportunity (as pointed out on our website) to remind Trip Advisor readers that this is indeed the case. There are no TVs in our rooms. So if, like me, you need the "white noise" of a TV to sleep, we may not be your hotel of first-choice. But if you are looking for a hotel where you do not have to listen to the "TV-next-door", especially when you are trying to sleep, you know that won't be a problem here.

Thank you Mike, and all the best for all your travels.

With Best Regards

Stayed there for 4 days sandwiched around an overnight trekking trip. Accommodations are comfortable and well located. Breakfast is very good and staff was exceptional. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a nice mid range hotel in Luang Prabang. Good value.

Dear Jim B,

Many thanks for taking the time to post this - much appreciated!

In particular, your comment that you feel we are of "good value" is very important to us. Travel in Southeast Asia is not as inexpensive as it was even five years ago. Travelers need to know that they are getting the best value possible for their travel dollar. We're delighted to hear you felt you received full value at Lotus Villa.

Happy Travels Jim,

One of the most enjoyable stays at any hotel ever! We stayed here for 3 nights and wanted to stay even longer. It's a great location - near all restaurants and shops. The room was perfect, peaceful, and quiet. Every morning breakfast was served on the patio - not your typical breakfast buffet of dry pastries and questionable fruit. Everything was fresh and delicious. There was a whole menu of food to choose from. We couldn't believe it was all included!

I'm giving this hotel five stars mainly because of the staff. They were simply the nicest people. They spoke great english and were always ready to help you. They were kind and friendly. We met the hotel manager, Evelyn, who was also amazing. I live in NYC and rarely do I come across genuine people, especially people whom I've just met. We stayed a different hotel outside of town for the rest of your trip and we found ourselves missing Lotus Villa. We even went back to say goodbye before leaving Laos. We will definitely be back for sure.

Dear Monica W,

This is Evelyn writing - notwithstanding the name above! (in the bold type).

Monica, your review is much appreciated. Thank you. And we were delighted when you made a point of coming back to say good bye. That was a first for us!

You mention our location, and we are indeed fortunate in that regard, to be able to offer our guests peace and quiet in the heart of the Old Precinct, a stroll away from the Night Market, Wat Xeing Thong, and the mighty Mekong, to name but a few.

As for the staff - well, I cannot say it any better than what you did. We are extremely fortunate to have staff who genuinely care about our guests. A number of them - Watt (Vath), Kham, Than, Khem - have been with us for several years. And I think that continuity adds to the quality of the experience here.

Thank you again Monica! We wish you all the best for your future travels.

With Best Regards,
Evelyn

We stayed here overnight after spending time up river and in town at another hotel previous to this. The place itself is quite nice but there were a few disappointments . First we were booked into a room with a balcony and refrigerator . On arrival we were put into a downstairs room with no outside area and a lack of a fridge . As I have medication that requires refrigeration it was an issue and having to go to reception to take it was a pain. When we enquiries we were told we had been upgraded with no offer to give us what we had booked .Our previous hotel in LP was on the river , came with free mini bar, cosmetics including a natural mosquito repellant, and an exceptional breakfast. It was similarly priced. At Lotus Villa there was soap and shampoo only, no fridge and as it turned out for us as we had an early departure , bananas for breakfast. Despite asking at checkin for a take away breakfast for the next morning, we were given a bag with 5 bananas in it as we left the next morning. How we envied other travellers at the airport as they ate their packed breakfasts while waiting for the plane. Unfortunately we had to wait for the plane food as there was no food available at the airport. All in all a poor performance for a hotel that charged similar prices to other far more generous hotels.

Dear 'mumofharryandtoby',

First, we do want to thank you for writing. Full and frank reviews are what make Trip Advisor work!

One of the things I want to emphasize is, if you are not happy with something, tell the hotel immediately. Preferably someone at the management level. A quality hotel will do their absolute utmost to ensure you are satisfied. Because we are a boutique hotel we have a manager either here on site, or only minutes away, 24/7. That way we can attend to any problems immediately.

Refrigerators for all rooms are, I'm happy to say, on order, and should be here in a few weeks. But again, if something is not satisfactory, let your hotelier know.

In closing - the mistake regarding your take away breakfast is unacceptable, and the staff have been notified accordingly.

Thank you again 'mumofharryandtoby'! Your review means we all (and when I travel, I use Trip Advisor' too) can be confident that Trip Advisor is helping maintain the highest possible standards, wherever we are traveling.

With My Best Regards
Evelyn

My family just spent 5 nights at Lotus Villa in LP, and enjoyed it thoroughly. The suite in which we stayed is nicely laid out, and perfect for a family with one or two children (or anyone who likes a little space). We found this particularly advantageous as our young son was very tired after mornings filled with activities, so we spent several afternoons recovering at the hotel.

Mornings start early with the alms procession in the streets, which was viewable from the room's balcony. We watched it every morning. Breakfast was very good and substantial. The staff at the hotel were invariably helpful, starting with the manager Evelyn but really encompassing everyone we spoke with. While we were fairly self-sufficient, when we asked for advice from the staff they were happy to help.

The hotel is well located on the peninsula, close to major sights in the old town and yet very quiet and peaceful. It is worth noting that the hotel is not, and does not hold itself out to be, a place with amenities such as a pool or TV in the rooms. As a result it is cheaper than some others and has a different vibe, which worked very well for us. We felt very welcome and comfortable there, and would go back again.

Room Tip: We had an orchid suite, which is perfect for a family of 3-4, or couples who like a bit of space. Co...

Dear 'Ken R',

This is Evelyn Napier, the manager, writing - notwithstanding the signature at the end of this reply! (It will hopefully be adjusted shortly.)

Ken, your comments are very much appreciated, especially about our not having TV's in the rooms. TVs are the biggest source of noise complaints in boutique hotels (i.e., not concrete block hotels) and we made the decision not to have them here. We're delighted to hear that this was a plus for you.

You say " We felt very welcome and comfortable". Thank you! That's always our goal. We're very pleased indeed to hear you felt this way.

Thank you for writing

Spent 3 nights there in September/October this year (2013) and booked the hotel directly based on a lot of research (Frommer's, trip advisor and so on). Smooth booking process with either Bounta or Evelyn. First night we had 2 adjacent rooms and the other 2 nights a suite was available. You could save around 100 $ a night for a family of 4 by staying in 2 rooms. Hotel staff is very helpful and accommodating. Hotel will give you a small map with their recommendations, but the copy of the map is very poor and difficult to read. Get a bigger map for free at the local tourist office.
Location of the hotel is very convenient, all sights, attractions and good restaurants (there are so many....) are in walking distance and it is just a 15 drive to the airport. Great tropical garden with lush vegetation where they serve breakfast. It is not a sumptuous breakfast but very good, especially the fruit and their local made jam. Arrangements for sight seeing can be made and also the hotel will prepare food for you which can be given to the monks who pass by the hotel very early each morning.Have a chat with the staff or Evelyn, she has a very interesting back ground. hotel is eco friendly and supports a local orphanage. Besides donating cash, maybe you save your amenity kit from the plane and make them happy with simple things like toothpaste and tooth brushes.Very relaxing atmosphere in the entire town, but especially in this charming hotel. There is no TV in the room, but we certainly did not miss it. Internet is pretty good, but slow sometimes.
Rooms (except the suites) have no refrigerators, but there are so many small businesses around where you can get things until late in the evening. Only breakfast in being served. You wish to also having dinner in their garden, would be a very romantic affair.

Dear 'Riedel208',

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed review. That's what makes Trip Advisor work: the contributions of travelers like yourself.

Some updates you (and readers) might be interested in. We are in the process of purchasing mini-bar fridges for all our rooms. They should be here is a few weeks. And - don't be shy when ordering breakfast! As long as you ask for items from the menu, we'll keep bringing them. We don't limit your breakfast.

Yes, internet can be slow at times. We are upgrading our capacity, but Laos is still very much a developing country, and internet service can at times be inconsistent. We keep a 3G on hand so if the service is low on a given day, please ask and the 3G will be supplied, free of charge.

In closing, you referred to us as "a gem". Thank you so much! We'll do our very best to live up to that.

With Best Regards
Evelyn

Lotus Villa Laos is a cute, little hotel located in Luang Prabang, and we had a very nice stay here a while back. It`s situated very close to Mekong river, giving you a very nice view to look at. The service and the staff here are the best things about this hotel because everybody was very friendly and helpful to us, making us feel like home. Another plus for me was the breakfast we had every morning in its beautiful garden. Overall, we had a very comfortable stay here, and I have no complaints regarding this hotel.

Dear 'Audrey_Deal',

My name is Evelyn Napier and I am the manager here (Trip Advisor has not yet updated the name, but hopefully that will be taken care of soon!) and we just want to thank you for taking the time to write.

In particular, we appreciate your commenting on the service. We here at Lotus Villa care very much about our guests. This is not just a "business" for us, and providing the best service possible - going the 'extra mile' - is of first importance to us. We are delighted to hear you felt at home. That is the best compliment possible.

Thank you again, and we wish you all the best for your future travels.
