We stayed in a twin garden courtyard room at this central comfortable guesthouse for 3 days. Room is decent size, nicely ac, and overlooks the garden courtyard wherea generous hot and cold breakfast is provided and included in the rate. Airport pickup and return is available at a taxi competitive rate and without the hassle. The Wat Xian pagoda is two blocks beyond the hotel near the end of the peninsula and just past it is a comfortable river terrace for viewing the water traffic and having a cold drink on a sizzling afternoon, and another pagoda.. LP is essentially a main pedestrian street with cafes , and pagodas, the palace and diagonal to it the Mt Phios and a small local museum worth visiting.

Room Tip: ask for a room on the 2nd floor fronting the courtyard.

A great location on a quite road between the Nam Khan & Mekong rivers in the Heritage area.
We spent 5 nights here and enjoyed every moment, our very large room, on the ground floor, opened directly onto the lovely garden where an excellent breakfast was served.
The buildings are culturally significant and showcase the beauty of the ancient Lao architecture.
The staff were fantastic, so polite and with a ready smile, all overseen by Evelyn the Canadian Manager who went out of her way to ensure we were happy with all aspects of the place. She in a mine of local information and has many recommendations for interesting visits and restaurants.
There are so many restaurants close by on both riversides and it is only a 10 minute walk to the night market
The hotel helps to sponsor local people in getting started in the tourist trade.
Would certainly stay again on the next visit to Luang Prabang

Room Tip: Larger rooms on ground floor but a little more privacy in the rooms on the first floor

Dear 'Bricodust',

Thank you for taking the time to write!

For those readers who might be wondering, the large ground floor rooms that open out into the garden are our Waterlily rooms, and are a departure from the "usual" hotel room design, with terra cotta floors and - a truly unique touch - a lovely in-room bathtub in a wood-casing. (Privacy screens available on request, of course. And the shower and toilet are separate and fully private.)

A five-day stay really gives a guest the opportunity to test a hotel for consistency in service, facilities, and amenities. We're delighted we passed the test!

And yes, restaurants and cafes abound, moments away. And both rivers - the Nam Khan and the mighty Mekong - moments away as well.

We're so glad you enjoyed all the aspects of your stay with us, Bricodust, and we wish you all the best in all your future travels.

With Best Regards,
Evelyn

In the heart of Luang Prabang's World Heritage area between the Nam Khan and Mekong Rivers. We recently stayed at this relaxing, laid back hotel for 4 nights in a 2nd story double room, the front facing the street where the monks alms procession occurs every morning shortly after 6 am, and a lovely rear balcony overlooking the courtyard where breakfast is served. The room was a little small for two, but the bed was comfortable and the bath was fine ( no shower curtain where the toilet is located). You get used to this setup and was no problem for us. No TV and why come to LP needing one? Once you get into the flow of life here, you do not miss it at all. WIFI is available throughout the hotel. Evelyn, the manager, makes you feel most welcome. Breakfast is adequate with fresh fruit, French toast, eggs any style and home made jams. I would highly recommend this hotel for its value, comfort and ambience and would stay here again!

Room Tip: Do spend extra for the frangipani room on the 2 nd floor and facing the street for the convenience o...

Dear 'travelwise07',

To say that we offer value, comfort and ambiance, is to highlight the aspects of our hotel that we are always trying our best to offer. In particular, as the overall world economy is not what it once was, value for one's travel budget has become more and more important. So we're delighted you felt you received full value during your stay with us.

And you would stay with us again? Thank you!

I'll just close here by noting that the room you are describing - in case readers are wondering - is a Lotus room (not a Frangipani). And unlike many hotels, which take a "cookie-cutter" approach to room design, our room types are quite different from one another, as a visit to our website shows. I can't give your our web address here as Trip Advisor does not allow it. But 'google' will find us, no problem.

Thank you very much for your kind review, 'travelwise07'! It's much appreciated.

With Best Regards,
Evelyn

The beds were heavy, that’s one thing I would want to express out loud. The thing with the hotel is that is so full of culture and history that I fell inlove with the place in an instant. The hotel showcases the beauty of Luang Prabang and the country’s architecture. It looks like an old colonial house from outside, and when you go in, you will really feel being thrown back in time. The place is well maintained and the bathroom already have modern facilities.

Greetings Dianne G!

We're delighted you appreciated that our beds are solid, and not 'flimsy'. And yes, we offer modern facilities in an old-world setting, in keeping with our surroundings. We wouldn't have it any other way!

Thank you Dianne G, and perhaps we will see you again.

Lotus Villa was a highlight in our 3-week trip in Cambodia and Laos. Evelyn, the manger, a Canadian, is friendly and chatty. Breakfast in the garden is pleasant and an easy way to meet and converse with other travelers. A bonus: the monks come down the street each morning on their regular walk with their begging bowls. Other travelers get up before dawn and battle crowds to see them begin their daily walk, but at Lotus Villa you just step out the front door at about 6:30 a.m. and there they are! The desk will provide you with a container of sticky rice if you wish to engage in the custom--or you can just enjoy the scene. Recommend visiting Big Brother Mouse organization, right around the corner, where English-speaking visitors are invited to come chat with young Laotians who are studying the language and want a chance to converse with native speakers.

Hello 'welovetotravel032',

This post is particularly useful to the Trip Advisor community, as you highlight an important point about the monks, and the morning alms-giving. Unfortunately, up on the main street, it is indeed the case that large crowds gather and disturb the monks with excessive noise, camera flashes, and intrusiveness.

But here on Kounxoa Road, moments away, the alms-giving is as it should be: quiet, respectful, and a chance to take part in an important Lao tradition.

I should point out that the sticky rice (and hard-boiled eggs, if you wish, and which the monks greatly appreciate) are available for a fee. This is to cover the cost of the rice (and / or eggs and fruit) and to remunerate the couple who get up at 5 a.m. to prepare the rice fresh, and deliver it, still hot from the stove. The hotel does not receive any revenue for this.

So many thanks, 'welovetotravel032', and we are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us!

With Best Regards
Evelyn

One would never guess that the Lotus Villa is a purpose built hotel. I thought it had been transformed from an early 20th century French colonial residence. So one can enjoy modern conveniences in a traditional setting. No TV or coffee machines here, but a refrigerator is provided. My room was on the small side but pleasantly furnished and equipped. My room's terrace overlooked the garden where breakfast and refreshments are served. Of course noisy, smoking guests have to be accommodated but that is not generally an issue I was assured. My only concern was for the meowing of a cat/kitten at night across the road!

Room Tip: The building at the back may be quieter.

Dear irobertson14,

Well it's lovely to hear that you found our design so compatible with your surroundings. Thank you!

As for being TV-free, that's a conscious choice. And as per our in-room information book, coffee-and-tea making facilities can be set up in your room, on request.

Noisy smoking guests are the exception, alas, but not the rule. We do our best to (gently, and tactfully ) discourage same. For those of you who are reading this, please do let us know if there are problems in that regard, and we will deal with it. We're pretty creative when it comes to that sort of problem-solving!

Thanks very much for posting, irobertson14. And all the best for your future travels.

With best regards,
Evelyn

This was our second stay at Lotus Villa. First stay June 2013, second stay Feb 2014. We chose to return to Lotus Villa based on our previous experience. The location is perfect, a block away from the main street and within easy and enjoyable walking distance from all LPB town offers. Lotus Villa is close to the Mekong and Nam Khan Rivers, nice spots to sit and watch the water float by.
The vibe @ LV is very relaxed yet staff remain attentive to customers needs and desires without being over the top. This is the main reason we returned, the manager and all staff are very accommodating and all strive to make the guests stay a pleasant one. As it was our second stay at Lotus Villa and at the end of a three week trip in Laos, we felt like we had returned home to something familiar and cosy. Breakfast served in the court yard is timely but minus the rush, a pleasant space in which to begin the day.

A big applaud to Evelyn the manager and all staff members.

Will return to LPB and Lotus Villa.

Hello Gale M!

It was a delight seeing you and your partner again (Sorry, Trip Advisor rules don't permit me to use his name) and we are all so pleased that you felt like you had "returned home".

Breakfast, and service overall, are the things that we strive to maintain at the highest level possible. But it is your comment "staff remain attentive to customers needs and desires without being over the top", that we really appreciate.

We do want our guests to feel welcome. And we do want to provide the best service possible. And we genuinely enjoy helping our guests.

But we also do not want to be intrusive. That can be a challenging balance to maintain. Your observation is most reassuring! It means we are doing everything we need to do, but not "hovering" or "crowding".

So, thank you Gale! We will do our best to maintain that balance, and we very much look forward to seeing you again.

With Best Regards,
Evelyn
