Nice guesthouse along the river with easy 5 to 10 min walk to main street and main sites in town. Steep stairs to climb to get to the second floor but staff will help carry your bag. Shoes off at the entrance keeps the place clean. Free wifi, air conditioning and a fan. Windows have shutters and screens. A couple restaurants along the water 1 block away for meals. Cost around $25+ US depending on time of year you go. I believe there are only 4 guestrooms - 3 up top and 1 below.

The monks come to collect their morning and evening meals 1 block behind the hotel. So you will hear beating drums early in the morning. But makes it easy to jump out of bed to watch the proceedings.

Wine bar across on the side street and great shop for buying local weaving including scarves.

A must eat for dinner is Tamarid which is about a 10 minute walk along the river.

Room Tip: Ask for the upstairs rooms on the river side.

There were a lot of things we liked about MuongLao riverside: the cute balcony over-looking the street and the river, it's cozy wooden decor and the lovely breakfast tables next to the river. The staff were very friendly, and spoke great English.

The main downsides were that the room was very small, and the cute wooden walls are not soundproof at all. We could often hear what our neighbours were saying and doing (which can be a problem in Luang Prabang, when a lot of visitors get up a 6am to see the monks' procession). So if you're sensitive to noise, I'd recommend you stay elsewhere.

We spent 2 nights here following a 2 day slow boat cruise from Huay Xai and cannot rate the customer service highly enough. All of the staff were extremley helpful and really friendly and had great english. The location of the hotel is great, right by the river, and just a short walk to loads of nice restaurants, wine bars an4d the main temple where you can watch the gorgeous sunset (along with all the other tourists). We had initially requested an upstairs room with a window based on the other reviews. Once we arrived we were told we had been allocated a downstairs room (there is no way to distinguish between the rooms when booking via agoda/booking.com - we had put a note as a special request) we were a little disappointed as the downstairs rooms are quite dark but the staff were really good about it, apologising profusely and gave us free breakfast. A great stay on the whole, would highly recommend.

Pros:
Perfect location on the riverfront.
Seating area by the river.
Large room upstairs.
Very clean and modern, with character.

Cons:
Room downstairs was dark, smelly and bathroom was very small. We asked to be moved. The girl at the desk said we couldn't, but when we asked another member of staff the next morning he moved us straight away. The rooms upstairs are SO much better.
When we called they said they were full, but agoda said they had room so we booked online.
One member of staff in particular seemed disinterested, like she couldn't be bothered. She also bad mouthed the other member of staff for giving us a discount, but if he hadn't and allowed us to change rooms we wouldn't have stayed the extra 2 nights.
When we returned to the area 3 weeks later, we wanted to stay here, but the lady (who was bordering on rude) wanted to charge us extra (even more than if we had booked online) despite the fact that we were returning customers.

Regardless of the poor customer service, we loved our stay here.

I am so keen for people to enjoy the experience of Luang Prebang that this is nowmy third attempt at submitting this review. This hotel is right on the Mekhong, front rooms have small balconies looking on to the river. This is a good place tp stay for anybody visiting this tranquil town. A cupboard in the room would have been nice, but this was more than makeup for with cleanliness, clean towels everyday and the always charming and helpful Kim. My personal views that excessive Western luxury would be out of place in this serene town with a history of having suffered so badly badly at the hand of the West. Luang Prabang is a must for the serious traveller and this is a perfect place to stay. Clean , affordable, close to everything and helpful staff.

Room Tip: Front rooms are quiet at this time of year and great for view of river

This is a lovely little corner guesthouse. The staff are very welcoming and helpful and the breakfast is one of the best we encountered in SE Asia and the tables across the road overlooking the Mekong are a the perfect breakfast setting. The rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. If I ever return to Luang Prabang I'll stay there again.

This little guesthouse was on the street running along the Mekong River and it had seats to sit out right along the banks...fantastic view and atmosphere. We stayed here for two weeks in February and it was great, thanks especially to Khim our desk manager. He was friendly , helpful and so good to us. We would love to retrun and see him once again because we became friends with Khim. It was a special time for us.
