“Old glory?”
Reviewed 15 May 2014

I heard good things about this hotel from two of my tour guides before I stayed. I think it is more of a 2.5 star hotel than a 3 or 4 star. The rooms are clean, but there is barely any natural light in the rooms. The hallways look like they are straight out of a motel from the 60s. Rooms are spacious and clean, but need upgrading. The bed sheets were so thin that I was afraid I would rip them just from sleeping on them.

Staff are very nice, helpful, and polite....unlike the staff at Abbasi hotel who are probably the most rude people in all of Iran. The staff at Setareh helped me with directions and restaurant recommendations. The location is perfect, within a 10 minute walk to the Naqsh-e-Jahan square and close to many shops.

I still think it is better than most hotels in Esfahan from what I've heard. The restaurant on site has some of the best food in the city.

I've been slept in this hotel several times since it's been opened. The number one positive factor about it is its management. You feel it everywhere as small corners of the hotel are well taken care of.

The rooms are cozy and nice. the service is very good. The Breakfast is more than what you think. The location is 5-minutes walk from the heart of Esfahan - Imam Square and Bazaar.

Room Tip: In Summer, make sure you eat in its roof-top restaurant with a view of the famous illuminated domes...

I have been using Setareh Hotel for more than two months, since I have been assigned a work affair in Isfahan and I stay in Isfahan 3 to 4 days a week regularly.

This is a 3 stars hotel in Iran, and compared to other 3 stars hotels, it is perfect!

Pros:
- Clean, spacious, good air conditioned and comfortable rooms
- Very friendly staff
- Great Breakfast
- Good traditional restaurant
- Good free WiFi internet both in lobby and rooms (except a few rooms at the corner sides of the hall with weak WiFi connection, which you can tell the staff on your arrival not to give them to you!)
- TV with local channels and a few satellite channels like BBC, MBC3 and Dubai Sport.
- Good location, 7 min walk to Naghshe Jahan Square
- And finally it is not expensive at all regrading many 4 and 5 stars hotels in Isfahan.

Cons
- The rooms look rather old with average decoration.
- The hotel taxi needs more cars. Sometimes you have to wait for more than 15 min to have a taxi.

In conclusion, I highly recommend this hotel, if you want to have a rather cheap and good hotel in Isfahan.

Room Tip: Check for the WiFi strength of the room with reception, before you choose one.

Some guidebooks call this place depressing but I certainly didn't get that impression. It's comfortable and cosy (and warm which was especially important as we visited during a chilly February week) and the staff are friendly. It's in a great location just a few minutes walk from the Naqsh-e Jahan Square (and even closer to a great little place to buy the dessert fereni). Breakfast was tasty and there was a good selection of dishes on offer.

- Delicious breakfast!

Cons:
- Not the most modern, but this is Esfahan, not NYC

This hotel was a slight dissapointment to us compared to other 3 star hotels in Iran. Our room was ok in size, but there was only a window to an internal hallway of the hotel. With a working aircondition this would have been managable, but the a/c was turned off for the seaon we were told. This gave the room a stuffy feeling and left it rather on the warm side. The bathroom also had a slight smell to it. Overall the room was not great.

The location of the hotel on the other hand is superb. Easy walking distance to the Imam Square with several of the key sights of Isfahan. We also felt very safe walking to and from the Square in the evening.

The included breakfast was average, nothing special but not bad either. Other than that the hotel provided free wifi, which worked for one of our two nights at the hotel.

The service of the reception was also not great. They did their job, but were not particulary friendly or willing to provide more than asked of them. Upon check out we had a small minibar bill that they rounded up because they did not have change. Not a big amount at all, but it confirmed our negative impression of the service of the reception.

The best thing about this hotel is the location. You walk out of the hotel and there you are at Imam Square. The traditional looking restaurant offers good food. The breakfast was also excellent, lots of fresh fruits. The rooms are adequate, however we did face some clogging in the wash basin and water from the bathing shaft was leaking too. But the rooms were comfortable and clean.

For reservations the front desk can't help at all and one has to wait for their manager, Ms. Maryam to arrive, to confirm your booking you can email her at marya.chitsaz@gmail.com She is very helpful and warm. The young man at the front desk, really helped my mother regarding buses and flights to Shiraz. However the female staff at front desk was cold and didnt seem positive when we asked for a days extension. Lastly when we wanted to clear the bill she refused to accept Dollars even though we had the exact change. So we had to head out to Imam Sq. and get the cash, which was not a long walk, but it was strange and insensitive since every other hotel is open to accepting Dollars. Perhaps thats their rule, so be ready alot of tomans.

The wifi is excellent and Owing to the location I might return!
