“Over priced”
Reviewed 23 May 2014 via mobile

The environment of Benjarong is very traditional and nice, and u expect good food, unfortunately this wasn't the case. Myself and my friend are gluten intolerant, thai is usually a good bet to be safe for us hence we went here. As usual you ask the question re: which is safe for us to eat, to be told the curries were pre packaged from outside and so we couldn't have ie not freshly made on site (!) So we were left with the stir frys which were ok not grt but I know I could make just as good at home which is always a good gauge for me.

We had a 2 4 1 voucher for a main; we had 2 mains, one rice, a veg dish, 2 bottles of water, we shared a starter and a desert, portions weren't big but for us we thgt it should be a reasonable priced meal. We had an unpleasant surprise when we got the bill even with the voucher it was 360 AED/60 GBP without even a drink! Thats only 5 items paid for at full price for 360 AED. There are other 5 star thai restaurants in dxb that are better quality and environment but similar prices, alike one in Downtown which is a particular personal fav.

Also in karama or satwa you can get better quality food admittedly not so nice environment, say 4 dishes for about 120 AED, I know which I prefer ;)

Dear Macs-on-the-move,

Thank you for your feedback about your recent dining experience with us. Benjarong is our award-winning restaurant which in fact has just recently received another recognition - the Service Excellence 2014 award by TripAdvisor. We pride ourselves with centuries-old recipes straight from the palaces of Thailand, renowned gracious Thai hospitality and live Thai entertainment amidst the majestic interior of the restaurant which resembles the royal dining halls of King Rama IV. Our pricing is competitive as well compared to other 5-star restaurants in the city.

We hope that we may have the opportunity to welcome you back in Benjarong and usher you into a pleasantly satisfying experience the next time you visit us.

Delectable regards,

Prateek Kumar

“Good start, poor thereafter”
Reviewed 14 April 2014

We love Thai food. We have lived in Thailand so we do pretend to know a little bit about it.

We were staying at the Dusit Thani so decided to try Benjarong. We had eaten here before, about 6 or 7 years ago. Our recollection was that like many Thai restaurants in Dubai, they did a great job of appertisers but their mains were not as good.

We got off to a bad start with the water order. For fear of sounding frightfully difficult customers, my wife does not drink Evian and I have a pet hate about Dubai restaurants that only sell imported water. So yes, we sent back the water.

Starters were very nice: shrimp cakes, spring rolls and satay chicken (OK, so nothing too out of the box).

For mains we ordered beef massaman, fish in spicy chili sauce, morning glory and chicken in cashew nuts.

None of it was very nice but special goes to the fish which was inedible. For years we have searched Dubai for deep fried whole fish in spicy chili sauce and while we knew we were ordering fillets here, the canyon of difference between expectations and delivery was disappointing. The joy in finding a restaurant in Dubai serving morning glory was short lived when we found what they did with it. The massaman was salty, contained only 2 peanut halves and the meet tough. The chicken was forgettable, in fact I forget if we actually ordered chicken.

For dessert I went for mango and sticky rice (as I always do) and my wife for sago (as she always does). After a standard wait time for dessert, they served mine (a paltry serving without coconut cream and with pandamus flavoured rice which is not an improvement on the original) and at the same time told my wife they were out of sago. So much for finishing together.

With a bottle of wine and (imported) water, total bill was around Dh 800.

Briefly back to the water thing...they told us that they do not serve local water because it was a fine dining experience. In Pax Restaurant next door, they serve local water, as they do in the Californian, the Deli downstairs and they give it away free in their hotel rooms. So you think if a customer specifically asks for local water they might walk 8 feet next door to satisfy that (not unreasonable) request. Diners of Dubai unite against imported water!

Dear SandDragon,

It is very unfortunate to know that you didn't enjoy your recent dining experience in Dusit Thani Dubai's signature restaurant. Our team of Thai chefs in Benjarong always endeavor to bring the freshest ingredients and import Thai herbs and spices all the way from Thailand to achieve authentic Thai tastes.

We hope to be able to have the opportunity to welcome you back and usher you into a delectable royal Thai dining experience raved and highly commended by many, even by the crown prince of Thailand himself and the royal family whom Chef Naruemol has cooked for.

Your feedback about serving imported water is also greatly appreciated and will certainly be reviewed.

Many thanks once again and best regards,

Prateek Kumar

“A wonderful Thai dining experience”
Reviewed 15 March 2014 via mobile

We booked a table for dinner among friends. We have dined in Bangkok on several occasions and so we expected a high standard of authentic Thai food. From the moment we walked into the restaurant, we knew that we had made a good choice. We were led to our table, passing through a wonderful display of Thai sculptures, paintings and artifacts. The host was very pleasant and the impressive menu was carefully and patiently explained to us, including the different degrees of spiciness and the ingredients. We ordered the Chicken tom yam soup, Glass noodles salad, spring rolls, Green curry and of course not forgetting the traditional Pad Thai rice noodles stir- fried with seafood. Sensing that we are Asians, the host asked if we wished to have all the main dishes served together rather than in sequence. The food was excellent, spicy, authentic and reminds me of the best dining experiences we enjoyed in Bangkok on the bank of the Chao Praya river. Throughout the dinner, two Thai dancers and musicians entertained the diner crowd with local dance and the traditional Thai string instruments. Overall the dinner was well worth the price and we will surely return to the classy and amazing restaurant. Well done Chef!

“Thai delight”
Reviewed 2 March 2014

Really classy Thai restaurant within the Dussit Thani Hotel. The regional chef visited when we were there and presented a speciality menu but I am assured by others it is always this good. Had a delightful meal and evening overall. There are lots of Thai establishments in Dubai but this one is well worth a visit.
