We bought engagement ring in GB shop at Dubai Mall. After only 2 weeks, both our rings ended up totally scratched. We went back there, had the ring repolished and then remade but again same issue. As per their salesman, it is normal as white gold is weak and get scratched easily !!!!! Have been in a Jewelry in Europe for them to have a look at the ring and as per them, there was an issue in the making of the ring. Stll, GB tired to convince us that it was normal. Finally, got refunded but not the whole amount. Avoid GB, poor quality. As the previous review states, I am sure they mixed the gold with some minerals to keep cost low.
I bought a ring at GB Gems (gold souk), after two months, I lost the biggest diamond. I check other diamonds, an other was not very well setted. My advice: don't go there, they are not able to make a ring. Waranty is also very poor.
We went to Duabi this June and whilst we were there we bought my engagement ring from GB Gems, located in the Mall of the Emirates. We had spent 4 days searching for the right one and finally found one similar to what i wanted in GB Gems. The salesman advised us that he could make us one that day to our specification and within our budget and deliver it to our hotel that evening. We thought this was fantastic service and i was really excited, we handed over the deposit and left him to it. We then received a phone call 15 mins later from the salesman who told us to come back to the mshop as he had just had a delivery which included a ring that was identical to what i wanted. We went back paid for the ring and left very happy!!
When we got back to the UK, we took the ring to a local jeweller to have it valued, for insurance purposes and also to see if we had got a bargain, we had! It was worth well over double to what we had paid for it.
2 weeks later after wearing the ring a claw that held the centre stone snapped, i took the ring to a jeweller to repair, where i was advised that the supposed 18ct white gold was not so, it was white gold mixed with minerals and this made the metal very weak. I was told that this is a vevry common thing to happen in Dubai, they filter down the gold to keep their costs low, but at some point the metal will break.
I have now had to have the ring remade in the UK with the diamonds from the original.
We were also told that one of the diamonds in the band was broken to make it fit in and sealed with glue, which you could not see until you looked very very closely!
SO, shoppers, beware when buying from GB Gems and any other jeweller in Dubai, you may be getting a fantastic deal on your diamonds, but the gold is worthless.
