Built on the style of a typical Arabian Zouk, this is a great place to have a walk around. There is everything from small local shops selling from key rings upwards, designer jewellery and clothes shops - plus a stall where you can hire a Maserati, Lamborghini etc by the hour or by the day if your wallet is big enough! There is also a theatre in the complex and lots of different restaurants, from expensive to chain coffee shops.

There is an outside (not sure what to call it) moat or canal that goes most of the way around and even has boat trips on offer. The grounds are amazing, lots of outside restaurant space and gorgeous plants. Can be easily reached as the hop on hop off bus stops there regularly.

It certainly makes a change from the Dubai Malls of Dubai!

I first visited Souk Madinat just after it opened in 2004 or 2005. It had been built in around 20 months from a bare patch of (beach) sand, sitting beside the Burj Al Arab and Jumeirah Beach Hotels. The "Souk" itself is the marketplace with retail stores, dining, bars and a theatre. But it is part of a larger, integrated complex that now boasts 4 Luxury (4 & 5 star) Hotels (one of which are independent villas) as well as a canal, "Arena" (convention centre) and a turtle sanctuary.
You approach the Madinat through a busy approach with cars dropping off or veering down to the right to the underground car park and negotiating past the lines of taxis (and Ubers). Once up the steps, the interior is stunning woodwork with what appears to be traditional carvings in the joist and arches of the high ceiling. The shops and restaurants are all contemporary, but retain the stone facings and some internally have terraces and balconies that overlook the canals or see out towards the Burj. It used to be INCREDIBLY busy, any time after 6pm most evenings. But the last twice I was there in the last month, after a gap of a couple of years, it seemed strangely quiet. The shops a re still there, from traditional Arabic tourist stuff to Persian carpets and some upmarket clothes stores and at least 2 dozen eateries, some on the canal-side.
It's worth at least 2 visits - one during the day - maybe for coffee or lunch and one in the evening for dinner or else to see a show in the Madinat Theatre, which pre-dates Dubai Opera.
Enjoy.

In the shadow of the famous Burj Al Arab is the souk Jumeirah located. I much prefer the souks over the gigantic malls spread out all over Dubai since here you can at least notice how the weather is like. There is also a Belgian Beer café, something that makes me proud as a Belgian (although prices obviously are much more expensive then in Europe).

The souk is not authentic and has the looks of a theme park, but if you are prepared to expect something like this it is nice here to spend an hour or two. If not, I recommend you to head in the direction of the old Deira-district.

This is a modern take on the old souks in Dubai. It has some very nice restaurants and hotels and a very nice view of the Burj Al Arab. The souks shopping is more expensive as compared to the old souks.
