The Dubai fish souk is a "must" see for foodies. Here you will find local and imported fish from a wide area, some of which may not be common where you live. The fish mongers are friendly, and if you ask, they'll let you take photos, even holding the fish. It would be fun to be able to cook and taste some of the fish, but there's a sign at the nearby Metro station that you can't take fish on its trains. (I see that other reviewers point out the ban extends to taxis.) There's a dried fish section as well, which underscores the universality of dehydration as a preservation method that dates back centuries. Be sure to wear rubber soled shoes you can rinse off afterwards (it also prevents slipping because of the wet floors). Watch out as you walk up and down the aisles as this is a working market, and you'll encounter wheelbarrows and carts ready to run you down if you don't get out of the way. It's their livelihood.

Next to the fish market are a vegetable/produce market, a meat market, and a rice market. But the fish market is the most energetic and fascinating.

Went to buy the food for the week. I bought large hamour fish. The men tried us as Americans but we ended up paying a fair price in the end. We come to buy and pay what a fish Like that I'd worth. Fun day. Oh very Important DON'T TELL THE TAXI YOU HAVE FISH. THEY WON'T TAKE YOU. LOL THEY HAVE GYPSY PICK UP TRUCKS WITH HONEST GUYS IN THEM. THEY WILL TAKE YOU TO YOUR RESIDENCE.

Best of all the souks. A wonderful insight into a local fishing market and a chance to see the local delicacies. You can buy individual fish and have them gutted/chopped on site. Includes the vegetable market too.
