“beautiful hotel near dubai airport”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 April 2009

Gorgeous hotel, lovely grounds and pool and great rooms. The best of the ones near the airport in the 5* range that I have tried.

Stayed for 2 nights in a club room, We thought it was excellent ,yes he bathrooms were small but that wasn't an issue the room was lovely the service was fantastic. The pool near the club rooms was superb . The staff so friendly and attentive, wished we had spent the whole week there.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 February 2009

I was booked into this hotel for a transit stay, just one overnight, and was upgraded into one of the Art & Tech rooms, which I have to say are marvelous. Nice, functional design with blond woods, a very work-friendly curved desk surrounded by electrical outlets that fit any kind of plug, and lighting that detects your movements with motion sensors and turns on soft lighting ahead of you.... no fumbling for bathroom lights. There was a glass walled rain shower that served as a separator between the main room's and the bathroom - it was frosted glass but could be somewhat awkward if you shared a room and your mate let the room service cart in while you were showering ;-) Very convenient to the airport, and food was good even in the lobby bar. Downsides.... expensive internet charge, and the atmosphere was a little cavernous and big-resortish. if you love big resorts, that is ok, but given Le Meridien's location far away from a beach, I can't see choosing this as a holiday accommodation. Reception and restaurant staff were very good. At check in, which was done by one of the staff that accompanied me from the the lobby directly to my room, I was offered a complimentary drink. I asked for apple juice. When the reception person came back with my credit card, she said "juice is coming right up" but it never appeared. Porters were speedy. I appreciate the free airport transfer, but this only applies to Terminal 1 - if you fly in or out of Terminal 2 you are on your own! I think I got good value, but this may be because I got upgraded to a very nice room. The Art & Tech rooms are nicely decorated, high quality towels and sheets, and a very comfortable bed. I wish I had had more time to actually sleep in the bed on my layover and to explore the hotel a little more. What I saw of the pool area looked welcoming, and had I not been traveling alone I would have been tempted to try one of the several interesting restaurants on the grounds. One maintenance item of note: the rain showers are mounted directly in the drywall of the bathroom ceiling, which is already showing signs of water damage or leaky spots. And the full body shower mounted on one wall of the shower shoots out stinging needle-like jets of water that cannot be adjusted for a softer spray. Design of the shower is pure decadence, but execution of the construction could have been better. Still, it was a very nice bathroom altogether.

A nice hotel, which has a connection with Emirates Airlines. If you fly business class and have to wait more then 6 hours for your connecting flight, this is where you go.
The hotel was good and basically... nothing to complain.

We stayed at Le Meridian-Dubai for 2 nights a the end of a 6 week tour of Australia/New Zealand.
We had paid extra for a Club Room after having had a fantastic stay in a club room at the Grosvenor 18 months ago.
The Le Meridian was extremely disappointing and the extra paid for the club room was a total waste of money. The room was very dated with poor decoration. The bathroom was also poor without any of the 5star luxury that we had seen at the Grosvenor.
The evening canapes and cocktails that are part of the Club experience were a farce. House wine and a single (poor) canape. None of the champagne and fine wines with delicious hot selection of canapes that we were expecting.
If you are looking for a room to catch an early flight,at the nearby airport ,and can secure a low price, it may be OK. If you are looking for somewhere with a taste of luxury, forget it !!!

There are many other, better five-stars in Dubai for the same amount of money. The room was fine (unlike other reviewers, I was not upgraded). I appreciated the in-room espresso machine, but the bathroom was extremely dated -- a cheap wall-mounted hair dryer and flimsy shower curtain don't meet my definition of luxury. The gym closed at 10 pm -- in fact, the one of the gym workers unplugged my treadmill while I was still running on it at 9:50 -- so the facilities are not available for those travelers who might arrive late at night and want to work out. The room service menu was surprisingly limited for a hotel that boasts 17 restaurants, and had very few healthy vegetarian options such as salads. The internet costs extra. The staff seemed friendly and helpful.

Nice big scale luxury hotel with some issues. Firstly the location is remote: it takes more than 20 minutes to get to Jumeirah Beach, so if you value sea, pick a hotel closer to the Dubai Marina or Jumeirah (and most likely pay more for that). Otherwise it doesn't matter since Dubai as a city is like Los Angeles: you need to take a taxi to get anywhere anyways. Thankfully it's rather cheap.

Secondly the pool areas are inadequate. The three pools are able to barely accommodate guests and there seems to be a culture of reserving chairs early in the morning with a book, towel etc. but not using them. So the best seats are taken through the day, but most remain empty. Common in three star family hotels and not very luxurious.

Third problem was the concierge service which is a must in a city as sprawled as Dubai. Though staff was rather helpful and polite, it was reactive, never proactive. Dry alcohol-free nights (which occurred 2 times in 7 days) and such were not communicated to guests if not specifically asked.

Le Meridien is a nice hotel especially for families. Staff is mostly very professional, restaurants serve quality food and the ambiance is sophisticated.

If you aren't looking for a boutique experience, but a luxurious resort kind of hotel, Le Meridien is a good pick.
