“The best of the beachfront hotels in Dubai”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 February 2013

We stayed at the Palace wing of the One&Only Royal Mirage in December 2012 and in January 2013. On both occasions we were traveling with our young 7 year old son.

On first visit we stayed in a ground floor double room opening onto the garden and sea front. All amenities were excellent and the rooms were both very comfortable and clean with all the usual add ins you expect from a 5 star hotel. On our second visit we stayed in a ground floor suite which was both larger and significantly more comfortable. Being on the ground floor with immediate access to the garden is great when you are traveling with kids.

The hotel is situated on Jumeirah Beach opposite the western edge of the Palm Island. This is a better position than on the eastern side of the Palm Island complex. The hotel and its gardens are a beautiful and restful oasis surrounded by the crazy high rise buildings that now make up Dubai. It is also a little understated in comparison with the many other hotels in Dubai, many of which are rather gauche excessive in their design.

The restaurants in the hotel are many and varied in terms of the many different cuisines on offer. We tried most of the restaurants and all were of a very high standard. My favorite was the Beach Bistro where the food and atmosphere was the best.

The staff were very efficient but some work needs to be done to improve attitudes. My impression was that the staff need some additional motivation. They just appeared a bit dull. The one exception was the pool staff who were at all times full of fun and enthusiasm.

I would highly recommend this hotel as the best of the beach hotels in Dubai.

Room Tip: If you are traveling with children a room which opens on to the garden and sea front is the best.

First thing: this is a new review about an old stay. To be exact we stayed here one year ago.
This is a rather long review but considering the size and level of services this hotel has to offer i feel like i need to cover all aspects both good and bad.
We arrived one very early morning at the hotel by taxi and we were greeted as if they were waiting for us. We had an overnight flight and got to our destination at around 4am. So we were given all sorts of treats and drinks while in the main lobby to spend the time in a pleasant manner and decided to take a stroll around the property. Difficult to discover much in the middle of the night but we noticed its not quite new although very well designed with lots of attention to details. By the beach we found the security guards on their toes and doing the rounds just to check things were in order. After a glorious breakfast in Olives we were given the introductory tour to our room in the gold wing by 8am! This i have to say was one great feat by the main desk staff and something we had not expected.
The overall impression of the whole complex was great.
The structures, hallways and congregation rooms of each the Palace, Residence & Spa and the Arabian Court are intricate and detailed but not too flashy and clearly exhibit more style and elegance than some newer and more famous establishments in Dubai.
The Bars and Clubs of the Royal Mirage are small, neat and tucked away from the usual bustle(except the Jetty) and we enjoyed spending time in some of them being the only guests around. The room was large with good view of the sea and had intricate furnishings and fittings with arabic motives and design patterns throughout. The lighting was especially smart and made the whole room and bathroom feel like you were in one of the 1001 nights tales.
The food we tried at the Olives and Tagine and The Rotisserie restaurants was of very high quality and catered for all needs and culinary peculiarities one may have.
The beach is really a major plus for this hotel. It runs the entire length of the complex i guess more than 600m long and farily wide with umbrellas and beach chairs well spaced throughout. In such a great location between the Marina and the trunk of the Palm having this enormous landscape to run/swim around is a great luxury. Also the views once you take to the water are spectacular as the hotel is set on the backdrop of the Dubai Marina. Its quite a busy stretch of water with boats of all sizes zooming around so theres plenty to see as you relax. Also you get the chance to see the planes making the rounds at the nearby Skydive Dubai and while some people are annoyed at this(judging from their reviews) we found it more than fun to watch both planes and skydivers.
The Spa is very nice. Nicest we have yet seen. Everything is well thought out and again the attention to detail baffles even the trained critical eye. The treatments, the cosmetic/medicinal products, the treatment and relaxation rooms, the lockers and bathrooms, the reception, everything is showing high standards of quality and you always feel you get something in return for the big bucks you are most likely going to spend there.
The pools are ok. Nothing to write home about though. Not too large but you seldom feel the need for more space with other guests around.
This large hotel is great but falls short of being fantastic. And by our judgment the staff are its biggest drawback. Of course we could fault many things if we took more than a glance: the cracked(and unrepaired) tiles around the palm trees in the pool; the chained golf carts the staff will use to usher guests around the property - unchaining them and first finding the staffer with the key takes unbelievably long...almost as long as if you walked instead; the beach is not cleaned of sharp debris although the neighbouring and far less luxurious Westin's beach is. But we are not about finding faults.
The staff are poorly trained, both young and old, migrants from afar, lacking discipline and fearful of being reprimanded, and guess what...they fail in the simplest of tasks. From the unattentive waiter who takes time to whisper in the ear of a well-known guest for half an hour and then reminds himself the reason of his being there and shoots off to our table and clears everything while we were looking for spices to add to our dishes...from the gasping old man in charge of opening a back door caught off-guard limping somewhere in the alleys then struggling to overtake us in order to arrive at the fore-mentioned door one step before us so he can fulfill his duty...to the very smiling man who welcomes you at the lift with a casual 'how was your day?' conversation only to have another couple arrive next to us while waiting for the lift and to hear the exact same wording, same tone of voice and artificial body language as if in a deja-vu...to the beach towel boy who misteriously dissapears from his post just as you need him...and generally to the fake smiles on almost all employees faces that get switched on and off as you turn towards or away from them.
They generally just seem mismanaged and as such behave erratically. The paradox is that there are very many of them and somehow they just dont seem to be enough to get things done and proper.
In my book this hotel is definately less than what it could be.
Of course we would go back to this hotel or we would try the other One&Only in the Palm.
This hotel has the wow factor and it feels like a hidden oasis in plain view. It has both privacy and a great location.
Take a look for yourself.

Room Tip: try the gold wing...

In over 25yrs of travelling across 4 continents this is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. Yes you can always find things to improve but every single person working at the hotel is 100% dedicated to making your stay as smooth as possible. This goes for all 3 connected hotels where we ate in different restaurants. Dubai is such an easy place to holiday and I suspect live.
Special mention goes to the reception staff, ladies at the front of house in the Olive Restaurant at breakfast and every one at the Rotisserie Restuarant. They and every single other person should be proud to work at this hotel. Outstanding.
If I had to find fault it would be the cost of the wifi, hey-ho, it didnt stop me......

Room Tip: I stayed in a ground floor room, I suspect all rooms are relatively similar.

Fantastic service, well greeted, well looked after, great restaurants, great grounds, nice beach, great holiday. It was so good we moved to Dubai!

I have only had service this good on three occasions in my life ever. One was on honeymoon in Thailand, the other was on a short break in Switzerland and the other at home in London.

We are planning on going back for an anniversary break.

Room Tip: Go in Ramadan for a greater choice of good suites.

We stayed here in Aug '12 on the second leg of our Honeymoon, having spent 2 weeks in the Maldives. It was a natural choice as our flights from Glasgow connect in Dubai.

The hotel was lovely, I just wasn't completely blown away. I have stayed in a wide variety of hotels worldwide, including some really high end, and I was just expecting a bit more. I could just put this down to the fact that it was Dubai though, and maybe everyone's expectations are higher.

The hotel is around 30mins from the Airport, but they do lay on FOC transport to the big Malls. Strangely, they don't offer return transport, so bear this in mind.

We were on a HB basis, which was fine, but beware that if you venture off the set menu, it will cost you more than what you could hope to get for your left kidney. The food was excellent, esp. the breakfast - I've never seen such a comprehensive buffet... steak for breakfast anyone? How about honey, on the comb?

The hotel seemed pretty empty when we were there, not much life going on, busier at night though, with a good buzz around the place.

Swimming pool was top notch, and service was as you would expect - excellent.

Rooms are lovely, big, comfortable, but try to get one with a pool / gulf view. Strangely, no tea / coffee in room, but the not-quite-so mini minibar is very comprehensive, even though you'll now be looking for the highest offer on your right kidney if you choose to help yourself.

Not quite sure what our room rate was as it was part of our honeymoon package, but I've heard that around £800-£1000 per night is about right. If that was the case, I personally don't think it's good value, but hey, you're in Dubai!

We have just returned from another wonderful stay at this hotel, the 6th time ! The low rise, the garderns the wonderful selection of restaurants, the staff make this a real oasis in the Glitz of Dubai. we had a small problem with one of the restaurants, and the next day we were having a drink in the jetty bar, and we got talking to this member of staff, whom we had never met before. We had a general chit chat, and then he addressed us by our mr and mrs name, spoke of our problem the previous evening, said it had been discussed at the morning meeting, and apologised!! He was the under manager for bars and restaurants in the resort! It was very reassuring, that they take time to meet up with guests and smooth everything out!!

The whole ambiance of the hotel is calm and friendly, lots of the staff have been there for years, and even remember us from previous trips We have sometime stayed in the gold club but this time stayed in the main hotel, and its just as good, just dont get afternoon tea, and cocktails!!!

will be going again as its perfect for 5nights R&R

The hotel is located on Jumeirah Beach and consists of three properties. The Palace, the Arabian Court and the Residence and Spa, which is perhaps the plushest of the three. My wife and I have just returned from spending a week in the Palace. The hotel grounds for the three properties are enormous and a shuttle service which runs every 15 minutes transfers you to and fro them.

The Palace is a fabulous hotel. The public room are sumptuous and elegantly laid out. There are four restaurants offering a wide range of international and Arabic dishes as well as a traditional 'grill' type restaurant. All have impressive menus and the quality of food served is exemplary. Every single dinner we ate was superb. We are now in need of a personal trainer in order to shed the pounds. Even the very elegant coffee/tea shop is worth a visit for that very English afternoon team with scones and cream. A selection of cakes is on offer also.

Our bedroom was well laid out with views of the beach and had a balcony area. Absolutely huge bed. Good entertainment options including a dvd player. The bathroom with bath, shower and a private wc is elegantly equipped.

The only slightly negative comment I have is that the view from the private beach is less than impressive although the beach are itself is very pleasant.

Staff are efficient, courteous and friendly without being obtrusive. A wonderful place to spend some time. The grounds are equally impressive also.
