This was our 6th visit to the Royal Mirage, The Palace and we are already looking forward to the 7th next year. The whole ambiance is one of understated luxury and many of the staff are like old friends. The quality of the food at all of the four resort hotels is excellent. We have visited over the years many of the newer resort hotels which although more modern than the Palace come with baggage ie they generally are glitzy and full of bling.

The combination of well maintained gardens, the longest stretch of beach you can imagine, super pools and wonderful reception areas make the Royal Mirage truly special. It has never compromised its Arabic "feel" and you genuinely think you are staying in a palace.

The key ingredient for a memorable holiday is often the attitude of the staff and the Royal Mirage employs first rate employees totally committed to making your time there the best it can be. This extends from not only more visible front of house staff but includes the room cleaners, gardeners, pool attendants, lift attendants, bar staff etc. There is a cast of thousands to thank and whilst it is difficult to pin point individuals some stand out simply because they perform brilliantly year after year.......the roll call is as follows;

Babu and Sharma - the main gate men and attendants in the Gold Club block
Ahmed - my shisha man in the courtyard at the Arabian Court
M'Barek - the waiter in Tagine
Sajiv - the waiter at the Roof Top Bar
Charlene & Christina - at the Concierge desk
Krishna - reception manager who sorted us out a cracking room
Sasi and Imty who looked after us so well around the pool
Nancy - at the concierge desk

Thank you all for making our time at the Palace so memorable.

The majority of the week was all highs with the exception of one low.....and a major one at that. Last year we enjoyed our first meal in 5 years at the Residence......a wonderful experience and one that we wanted to repeat this year......assuming there was a slot available. Clearly the Residence guests have first call on dinner reservations and if a slot can be found then a booking needs to be made in advance. We made this for the Tuesday- wrong move.

Whilst the food was excellent the service was sadly lacking. When we arrived we were met by a hostess Namila whose greeting was frosty to say the least. It was as if hearing we were from the Palace meant that we were treated like second class citizens. We had requested an outside table and we checked on arriving there were tables free. She said she would check the outside seating but without explanation simply led us to an inside table with a poor location in the dining room.

My wife had a view of the inside wall and a child's buggy which we asked to be moved out of the line of sight......it was but had to be moved again as this was rolled up a few feet initially. I ended up pouring my own wine and mineral water as the serving staff appeared short staffed and often there was no one around in the dining room to serve. What made it worse was Namila made periodic visits to the restaurant and stood with her arms folded looking totally disinterested. We left at the earliest opportunity missing our dessert, coffees, and a cigar & nightcap to be enjoyed at an outside table. We would have complained but the manager was nowhere to be found and we voiced our disappointment to one of the bar staff in the library.

We rarely name and shame but this was undoubtedly the worst meal/service we have enjoyed at the Royal Mirage in 5 years (40 dinners). The Residence clearly sets the standard for the rest of the resort but was badly let down by its restaurant - particularly compared to the many others we visited during the week. Being generous this was probably an off night for both the restaurant and the hostess but it tainted what was an otherwise perfect week.

Cannot wait to return but will probably give dining at the Residence a miss for a year or two.

Pros: Beautiful pool, great access to the beach, spacious rooms, fantastic food.

Cons: With all the above there was something that would upset you. Late room check in, poor in-house guest service, everything took time! Pillows in the bedrooms were super uncomfortable. Worst part was the check out. where they charged us $2 for using the landline of the hotel room (Timed at 12:35pm) where we actually check-in at 4:00pm. its not a matter of $2 or $10. its the principal. there poor attention to details and customer service.

I wish this was a discount deal offer to even think of justifying our terrible stay at the hotel. This was a DIRECT BOOKING with the hotel.

We looked at many hotels in Dubai, it being our first time here. Spent 6 nights here and loved every moment. We travelled with our 6 year old son. All hotel staff were very attentive and polite. Good choice of restaurants, Nina (Arabian Court) was our favourite - fab fusion of flavours and great decor. Lovely range of food for breakfast ranging from cheese and cold meats to cereals, pastries to your traditional fry up (oh yes, loads of fruit too). We particularly enjoyed the tapas at Olives. Soft drinks and alcohol were expensive but that seems to be the norm across Dubai.

Our room was a good size, lovely bathroom. We had to request an iron and tea/coffee making facilities which we thought should have been there on arrival. Housekeeping at times were slow at replenishing tea/milk and had to be reminded on various occasions. However we had a never ending supply of bottled water.

Pool size and staff were excellent. Various sunbeds available. Lots of space, so did not seem overcrowded, you still maintained your privacy. Pool staff topping up with ice cold water and offering fruit. The pool bar was lovely with lovely cocktails.

Made use of the kids club, very safe and equipped with lots of things to do. Our child really enjoyed the X-box and water sports activities. Children are taken to a very shallow pool next door which is closed in and very safe. We were happy to leave him there and more importantly he was happy too.

There was an Arabian Adventures rep there each day from 10am. We totally recommend the Sundower Desert experience.

The standard of the hotel is very clean and we will definitely be back. People earlier have talked about problems with WiFi, we had free WiFi with no problems.

Lots of activities including water sports, football, tennis, volleyball in the pool each day. There is a free shuttle bus between the various parts of the resort as well as to Atlantis and the Emirates Mall.

We would have no problem coming back and spending another 6 nights here, although it is best to avoid Friday and Saturday nights as the locals moor up in the Bay and party all night (and ride noisy jet skis - though it did not make much difference once we were in our rooms).

Very good hotel
Beautiful gardens, attentive staff, focused on customers' expectations.
The beach, the swimming pool are big, space between the chairs, no noise, just a place to relax and enjoy for a special occasion!!!
The Spa can do better; I went there with my husband and no questionnaire before the treatment (6 months after my surgery), and We would appreciate to be in a more private place after the spa, not a couple near men....Please revise that mistake... and use better essential oils...
The guests are expecting more attention and better quality for the products, essential oils!!!

Room Tip: If you plan to stay in this hotel, you must book your table for the evening dinner. For the Spa, yo...

I've been to a few excellent hotels in Dubai so far, but this is absolute the best! The service is great, the atmosphere is amazing and it feels like your in some tale of Thousand and One Nights.
The staff is very friendly and willing to make sure your stay is as pleasant as possible. The gardens of the hotel are very wide, what makes it easy to have some privacy. They have different pools, even a special 'adults only' pool, and a long private beach.
There are a few restaurants at the hotel side - Eauzone, Nina, Beach Bar & Grill - where you can have very nice dinners, but the also have a beach cocktailbar - The Jetty Lounge - and the famous Rooftop Bar with an amazing view on the Palm.
At fixed hours you can even take the boat to get to the One & Only on the Palm for lunch for example.
