The Fairmont Dubai is conveniently located within 15 minutes of the airport and within 20 minutes of major downtown attractions. The hotel is hip - to a fault - in that it lacks charm and warmth of character. Unlike other 5-star hotels that fuse elements of design to meet different tastes, the Fairmont Dubai has gone with uber modern. The result is not completely successful as many areas of the hotel are dark and depressing. Even at night, when the lights come on, there is a dinginess to it all.
Suite rooms are spacious with marble throughout. A lack of lighting above the bed makes it difficult to read and the tv is rather small for a 5-star room. The bathroom is spacious, although the sinker tub seems narrow and out of place given the quality of the other fixtures.
The breakfast buffet is satisfactory for a 5 star hotel but small and not overly extraordinary. Again, a rather dingy location.
One major frustration with the hotel were the elevators. There just don't seem to be enough to cope with the traffic and a number of guests I met commented on their frustration with always having to wait.
The Fairmont Dubai is a nice hotel but not a great hotel given the options available. It lacks warmth and clarity in design but will no doubt more than meet the needs of most discerning travellers.More
