“The true heart of dubai”
Reviewed 7 July 2014

Forget what the government would have you believe. Dubai creek is the TRUE "downtown".

This is where everything that you know today as Dubai all started. This is where the inspiration to try and build a "Singapore of the Middle East" came from. Where Dubai grew into the metropolis that it is, yet they did so bereft of oil.

All they had was trade and a mirage. Dubai creek is literally the heart of it all and the closest that anywhere in Dubai comes to having a soul. The sterile glass and concrete does not reign here and you can still cross th creek from either side on the traditional abra boats. The authorities are trying to qualify it as a UNESCO world heritage site. I have my doubts but stranger things have happened.

The pirates the smugglers, the wreckers with their false lights: As far as I'm concerned they're all still here. The lights have simply gotten brighter.

“A relaxing Creek ride”
Reviewed 4 July 2014

We took the cheapest boat ride in history down the creek and it was amazing!!! We only did a half hour trip and our guide was lovely. The view of old and new dubai was great and it gave us a few ideas of where to visit next. Would recommend this to anyone!

“Night-time river cruise”
Reviewed 4 July 2014

The evening of our arrival in Dubai, I booked a river cruise and dinner on a dhow. Thank goodness it was air conditioned, it was still around 38 degrees at 9 o'clock at night and very high humidity. Meal was very good with lots of variety and the atmosphere was good. The service was also good. The evening cruise took about 3 hours, and the lights of Dubai reflecting off the water was magical. At one point we ventured to the upper deck but the heat drove us back into the comfort of the cabin.
Next day we did a city tour that included a trip across the creek on the smaller abra, what the locals use as a water taxi.

“Take an abra across the Creek”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

For just AED1 p/person you can cross the Creek on one of Dubai's very local, authentic water taxi's (also known as an "abra"). You just hop on and pay the captain :) The journey takes approximately 7 minutes to reach the other side and is such a treat to commute with the locals, as well as have views from the water. It was a definite highlight for us and would recommend it to anyone. Don't forget your camera!

On both sides of the Creek there are several Souqs to be discovered too, including the Spice and Gold Souqs so don't forget your cash
