We were very surprised to see how much had changed since we last saw it... as the last time we saw the hotel, it was more or a less a shell with nothing inside. Were we surprised when we found it nearly entirely redone! The lobby is clean, light and airy. The hanging lights are tasteful. While we were there I saw engineering installing a flat screen television that I’m told will soon be featuring timely info about the hotel and current activities available for the guest.
Check in was easy and the staff friendly and professional. Bonus, we were able to access the free Wifi within seconds of arrival!
The room felt spacious, the bed was comfortable and the view from the 24th floor is great! A nice touch was the fruit bowl waiting for us. It took me awhile to figure out the phone system but once I did, I was using it constantly. There’s an option on the phone that allows you to connect to one person who can handle any of your requests, so no more fussing with connecting to room service or another line to connect to laundry or another button to connect to the concierge. One button to rule them all! ;)
The bathroom is decent size and the products were plentiful. You can’t plug the hair drier into the socket in the bathroom which confused me at first... but I guess they have their reasons. Speaking of sockets, nearly all of the power plugs are international, so no need to bring a plug adaptor.
Laundry service was fast and I got clothes cleaned and pressed the same day.
There were three food and beverage outlets open when we got there and we were told to expect three more when we come back. We checked out Girders, a beer bar, and found it surprisingly busy. They were putting finishing touches which includes big doors to the outside... a welcome addition as I don’t smoke. I’m especially looking forward to the future beer garden on the big deck on the third floor. And there’s going to be an all you can eat Brazilian place going in as well. I definitely will want to check that out.
I was pleased with the gym as it has all new equipment. It looks out on to the pool deck and is next to the soon to open kid’s club. The gym could use a clock and a scale. I did get to meet the gym manager and he spent some time with me working on stretches and advising on how to use some of the equipment. The front desk gym attendant was friendly and came in to let me know what time it was as I didn’t have a watch. The spa area was not quite ready so I didn’t get a chance to try it out.
Beach access will open soon via the pool deck area to an elevator so you don’t have to cross the street to get to the beach.
The hotel feels like it is off to a very good start and I’m looking forward to going back.
caveat: my wife consults for the hotel
