“A real find and can only get better”
Reviewed 10 January 2013 via mobile

Yes this is a new hotel not quite up to full speed and not fully functional. But forget that if you want a clean, spacious, elegant 5/6 star+ hotel. Room superb, service whilst with done teething was very good. Location at foot if the palm was good. 3 pools, beach, safety great for kids with kicks club soon to open. At present Spa is not functional but treatments in room where superb. Chinese restaurant not ready but Brazilian one is. We went on Gold package which gets a seperate area for breakfast and tea and drinks all day and superior room. Well
Worth it. Get merc to pick u up from airport as worth it. Nothing is too far away by cheaper taxis also. We've been to Burj, Atlantis and seen many others in Dubai and none offer the relaxed and spacious luxury of this one. Ok it will get busier and used over time but it has not sold out as a super tourist resort style hotel like many. So if you can suffer some minor teething problems then give it a go. Ps don't get confused with original Fairmont Dubai hotel which is in financial district. In summary best hotel we've ever stayed in and would return !

we are at the Fairmont at the moment, yes its not fully open but there are lots of positive things the staff and managers are trying very hard and problems are address immediately . we had dinner at the Sea grill last night, staff and food were wonderful,

I would agree with the comments made in the last review - we experienced very similar problems during our trip.

We definitely regretted booking this hotel.

The appearance of the beach is ruined by the huge mounds of rubble and construction work. We also noticed a smell of sewage while walking along the beach on more than one occasion which isn't that pleasant!.

The choice of restaurants and lack of spa was hugely disappointing - bearing in mind that we had paid for a 5* hotel.

This is NOT a 5* hotel in its current state. We have stayed at 5* hotels all around the world and this was by far the worst in terms of service and facilities.

The location is not great. On a main road and cant really go anywhere on foot so you need to factor in taxi fares. There are no on site activities apart from the gym.

Wireless was not complimentary (surprising for a 5* hotel) so we spent about £100 over a week on these charges.

The service was generally poor particularly at breakfast. Many of the staff don't have sufficient understanding of english which makes even the most basic things such as room service difficult and frustrating. We ordered room service on 3 occasions and on every occasion the order was wrong - even basic orders like 2 glasses of champagne! On our final night we ordered food via room service as we had an early start the next day. This was a big mistake. Only some of the order arrived. Items of food were missing and the wrong bottle of wine arrived. We contacted room service and we were initially told that this would be rectified immediately. However it transpired that they did not have the bottle of wine and some of the food that we ordered available. No one had bothered to tell us and they had just stuck a different (considerably cheaper) bottle of wine with our food instead!! While the staff were very apologetic these sort of mistakes just shouldn't happen in a 5* hotel.

All in all very disappointing. During our stay we spent much of our time at other hotels!! We dined at restaurants within the Madinat Jumeriah, the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and the Royal Meridien. All of these hotels were significantly better and the level of service was miles ahead of the Fairmont.

I would give this a wide berth until this place has sorted itself out - and perhaps go for one of the other previously mentioned hotels!

We arrived for a 6 night stay at this 5* hotel AND SPA to discover ;

1. The hotel is not fully operational
2. The spa is not open
3. Not all of the restaurants are open
4. They are still in the process of constructing the children's play area right next to the pool area which means construction noise most of the day while trying to relax

We were not informed of any of the above before arriving. Given that we paid FULL price via BA we were not impressed. We were given no indication that many of the advertised hotel facilities would not be available.

The outdoor area is very nice and spacious. The loungers are comfy. We chose to lounge next to the smaller pool to keep away from the noise of the construction area . it is very nice and quiet but that pool is not heated and very cold. The staff at that pool also seems to be less attentive.

The beach is nice but there is construction work either side of the hotel which is a little un attractive (huge mounds of rubble on the beach) and prevents you from walking any distance along the beach.

when we attempted to order drinks from the pool menu most of them are not yet available - seemingly also still 'under construction'!! The only cocktail on offer was a mojito but this wasn't great quality. Again very disappointing as we like our cocktails by the pool!

The room (which was one of the best available) was very nice and spacious with a huge balcony overlooking the sea. We were very impressed with this aspect of our stay. However - the tv stopped working on 2 occasions and wasn't even switched on at the mains when we arrived.

Breakfast is very good in terms of choice however we found the service at breakfast to be terrible. It is buffet style so the staff don't have to do much - except seat you and take drinks orders but we found that we were waiting a long time for drinks and constantly having to chase up orders which had been forgotten. This happened every morning without exception. A note pad for each waiter would be a good idea! The more senior staff (management) at breakfast were very good - however they cant deal with evrything!

I think this hotel has great potential and will be very good once it's completed and staff are fully trained but it simply shouldn't have opened when it did - or guests should be fully informed of the situation and offered a discounted price to reflect this. We feel totally misled - and a bit ripped off!!

We stayed for three nights in a Fairmont Deluxe Room (#239) as part of of the hotel's opening special. A few days before arrival a member of the staff called me to mention that the hotel was not yet fully operational, meaning in particular only two restaurants were open and they didn't have their liquor license yet. This was a good way to manage expectation.

The things I liked include the very friendly and service-minded staff, particularly a very knowledgeable concierge desk; the well-equipped room (office supplies, bath salt and dental care products); and the quality of the Flow Kitchen restaurant.

I would suggest that the hotel address the following points: Make sure the TV works, ensure room service breakfast includes all the items ordered, and install a light on the balcony.

The hotel is located on the Palm Jumeirah island. Walking to the mainland takes about 30 minutes, but isn't really recommended as there are not always easily accessible sidewalks along the way - we had to climb over a few blockades here and there. I understand the monorail station nearby will open soon.

I would happily recommend Fairmont The Palm for anyone looking for a five-star experience, especially if you like Arabian decor.

The rooms are very spacious and staff very friendly - 5starplus-style, but the beach was horrible. Big stones everywhere except the 100yard zoned beach area so the usable beach is actually not 450m as advertized. Besides the stones, debris was all over the place and there are 2 big construction sites next to the hotel/residence.

Room Tip: As much as possible to the middle as the sides are closer to the construction sites.
